I hope everything went well with your surgery and you’re recovery is on track. Love you 🥰
Once I’m feeling a bit better, I definitely have some funny stories about what it was like when I went under & when I ‘woke up’, Thankyou for checking in on me my love 🥺🖤🫶🏻
6 hours later and I'm finally done with my first surgery! From inducing complications, catheters blown, intubation issues, and large amounts of propofol... to post surgery hypothermia and incision bleeding and paperwork struggles. First surgery was complicated but a great learning experience. We handled all the complications like professionals and Chette is alive and doing well. Finally time to go home!
Due to covid, my husband can’t come into the hospital at all with me. He has to drop me off at the door and pick me up at the door. So much for wanting him to be near me for it. 😢
Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy
I got a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy a week ago today.
The day of the surgery. It was definitely uncomfortable but I was able to make it through and I was not in excruciating pain. I didn’t eat anything but ice chips and a fruit paleta.
The next day, day 2 of recovery/day 1 post op the pain was pretty much the same as before not excruciating just uncomfortable . I drank a ton of water, tried a smoothie, and Gatorade: got down a lot of water and liquids but eating was hard. I had some Campbell’s chicken noodle soup.
Day 3 of recovery/day 2 post op- the pain was the same, not unbearable. The pain meds on a strict schedule helped. Still barely eating but tried very hard. Ate more soup and Kraft mac and cheese.
Day 4 of recovery/day 3 post op- my mom came in town and this was the day I was due to run out of meds. I tried to fill it but they said it was too soon and to come back the next day. I had liquid Tylenol so I had that to use until I could fill my rx . This was the first day the pain increased significantly. My throat started to feel really tight. I thought it was bad because the other days had been so mild.i think this is the day the scabs started to form.
Day 5 recovery/ day 4 post op- nightmare. This was the worst day by far for pain because I was only on liquid Tylenol. They still wouldn’t let me fill my rx because they say my insurance was restricting it for another day. This was the first day I was in real pain. REAL PAIN. Tried to eat malt o meal. NOPE. Kraft Mac and cheese. Hell NO! My mom made some Lipton chicken noodle. So perfect. It was a dream.
Day 6 recovery/ day 5 post op- finally I got my meds. They gave me significantly less than they did the first time. I took the meds and It helped a lot. Pain was now managed. I still could barely eat. Had a lot of liquids and tried my malt o meal again. Only a few bites. Slept a lot.
Day 7 recovery / day 6 post op- yesterday my mom left. I didn’t take my meds so I could drive home from the airport. It wasn’t too bad. I woke up feeling bad but as the day progressed I felt better. Im trying to only use the painmeds when the pain is unbearable since I have a limited supply. I went 8 hours without taking meds before the pain started to get to me. I also hadn’t eaten so I had to get something other than water in my system before I could take them. so I drank as much Gatorade as I could. I tried a smoothie. Could only drink very little, and then I took the pain meds. Pain became managed immediately. I really tried to eat after that but it was bad. Malt o meal still was a bad idea and so was the Mac and cheese. I gave up.
Took a nap and woke up with the most terrible pain. It felt like I had surgery again on raw wounds. Drank some water and took pain meds. Immediately manageable. I think the scabs are falling off.
Today- I woke up ok. I haven’t taken pain meds yet. Scared to eat anything because I don’t want pain.but I really really want to eat. 😭I think I’ve lost 10 pounds so far. I didn’t weigh myself today, I will later. I’ve definitely lost over 5 pounds. I’m going to try to hold off on taking pain meds this morning because I want to go put gas in my car and go buy this food from this guy who sells plates on instagram. Everything looks sooo good y’all. He does Cajun styled food and he has the gumbo soup and Cajun pasta. I’m hoping I can eat them if not I will freeze them until I can. looking at his plates while unable to eat has been torture . I’m some kind of food masochist.
Will try to update this later.
Ya girl got her tonsils out so enjoy this anesthesia fueled selfie lol
Yall okay im not allowed to post pictures of my surgery patient (as per my school and the shelters rules), but surgery starts tomorrow and we're doing a neuter on a tabby kitten named Chette. He's 2.9 pounds, roughly less than a year old, and he's a sweetheart. He was a little nervous and timid during our pre-surgical exam this afternoon, but he's really cute and sweet. He's got an ear infection in his right ear though, and we'll treat that after we complete the surgery tomorrow. I'm in a group with two other classmates, and my role tomorrow during the surgery is to be the anesthesiologist. I'm so so so nervous but also excited for this first surgery.
Important announcement:
I’ll be going for wisdom teeth removal tomorrow and will be out for about a few days. Sorry but no art or writing for a while.
While I’m gone, please like and repost and comment my stuff. That’d be really nice.
Again, sorry.
