I like fishing for carp and typically would be so stoked to catch a mirror carp of this size. This day however was not the day I had hope to find this fish. 19 degree high temp, non stop wind, real feel of 7 degrees and frozen gear. At first I thought I caught a rock but then I felt a shake so I started to strip in some line. As I’m dragging in what feels like a log i was complaining to myself about how many flies I had lost this day getting stuck on crap. As it got closer I saw something gold. The fish just let me walk it in until it was close where it then thrashed and rolled enough to get slime on my brand new jacket. I lifted to fish to show @mrwerbs which led him to drop his gear running to see this massive rainbow he thought I was holding. When he saw the carp he began to walk and asked if I wanted some pictures. Haha. We snapped some and I spent some time getting the fish recovered where it hopefully will survive. Most of the banks were covered in carp carcasses picked apart by birds of prey and plenty of birds were surveying the area which was enjoyable for us since we saw multiple Bald Eagles through the day. Winter is rough for these fish but carp are so prolific that they will always return in numbers. Swipe to see a good #fishflopfriday photo and let’s hope I find one again that can show me my backing.
