#fishkeeper problems

I keep having problems with my hamster enclosure where I refer to her detolf enclosure as a “tank” and the layout as the “hardscape” and I think you guys on this blog are the only people I know that will appreciate that very specific fishkeeper issue I’m having.

Gotta love the sound of a filter after a power outage. 🙃

My filter has leaked dozens of gallons of water into the floor. I'm going to need a new cabinet stand because of it (it's not solid wood, so now the bottom right side that got soaked is warped and I can't close the door very well at all.) I know the baseboards are gonna be fucked. The living room smells like fish.

It looked like the seal was leaking so I figured okay it's had the same gasket for two years, that's prob it. Changed the gasket. Nothing. Leak got worse. Couldn't figure it out to save my life. Everything online just says the gasket. Bought the same filter again today. Thought it was just the canister that was leaking so kept all the hoses and media the same. Still leaking. Look up why the brand new filter is leaking. Finally found something saying it looked like their seal was leaking when it was actually the aquastop valve. Changed out the aquastop valve. No leaks yet. God I hope that was the problem. And hopefully I can find the receipt for the old filter because fluval has a 3 yr warranty and I'm pissed that I had to buy another $180 filter after two years and destroyed shit.

Also the filter has only been running for a few mins each day for the past 3 or 4 days because this leak will fill a 5gal bucket in about 20 minutes. So I know all the bacteria are dead. Especially since that water cooled down way below tank temp. I've been doing huge water changes (kind of inadvertently bc I lose gallons at a time) so the fish have been okay throughout but now I'm afraid it's gonna cycle all over again.

I hate everything.

Ughhh I keep having fishkeeping stress dreams/nightmares. For example: Tanks breaking and there being way more fish than there actually are in the tank, and trying to collect them all into a bucket and there's just more and more of them... My mother coming over with dozens and dozens of random fish saying brightly "I got you these for your tank!" and I'm like noooo those fish can't go in there plus it would be way overstocked... This time I dreamt that there were way more platies than I remembered, and that I had stuck them into various small jars temporarily and somehow forgotten about them and they all got ammonia poisoning and I was panicking trying to get treated water into a bucket for them and getting my buckets mixed up and my mother started building little scenes with rocks and plants in the jars and I was like nooo stop I have to get the fish out they need clean water!

Texas fishkeeper problems: when the "cold water" straight out of your tap is still 80°F

Sometimes I kinda feel like I'm cheating on my handsome betta trio when I admire other bettas in a store or here on tumblr.......I frequent this one mom and pop shop in Kirkland and a cashier told me about how the just started selling koi betta. Must resist the temptation 😟 .....if I see a forest green male halfmoon though I don't think I'd have the strength or discipline necessary to just walk away. I would have another tank set up so fast 😓 like ridiculously fast... Don't tell them I said that!😫
