Fitz was distraught.
He had just met the love of his life. That's good right? Wrong. While he was jumping with joy just thinking about you, he couldn't get over how he had never seen you before.
You're in the same grade. Go to the same school. Hell, you were in the same classes. But he had never noticed you.
How you ask? How did he never look your way? Well, he didn't exactly know. You were the prettiest elf he had certainly ever seen, so not even a glance? A brush of the shoulders? A lock of the eyes?
You two must've sat next to each other at one point. Right?
Had you noticed him? Even know he existed? Fitz quickly cast away that thought. He was Fitz Vacker for Fallon's sake, the golden boy of Foxfire.
Stay focused Fitz, he thought to himself. You're supposed to see her today.
He finally met you two days ago. He was searching for a telepathy book for Tiegran's class, and when he turned the corner, there you were. In all your—mid reading a book he had never heard of—glory. He could've dropped down on one knee at the very second.
You seemed to be reading a very interesting—or rather confusing— moment in your book because your eyebrows were furrowed together and lips in a downward motion. You looked so lovely scowling down at the paperback that he couldn't help but watch.
After his very unsubtle staring dilemma, he turned away to walk—or more so sprint—out of that library as swiftly and stealthy he could manage when you looked up from said book.
Panic! Panic! His body yelled. Get out of there! But his legs wouldn't cooperate. He gathered up the most courage he could muster and smiled a—hopefully—friendly smile. "Hello." He stammered out. Why'd you'd say hello? That's so formal Fitz. Focus. "I just need that book right there."
"Hi!" You smiled back. "Sorry oh um let me just," You awkwardly moved out of the way, gathering your things so he didn't have to move them, and stood up, gesturing with your hands that the path was now empty.
The book he grabbed wasn't even the right one—he would later find out it was in the opposite shelf—but he picked the first one he saw and got out of there right after muttering an awkward "goodbye".
When he got back home he immediately scanned every profile that was in his grade from the list he got when he first started Foxfire. He never thought he needed to use it but Della, Fitz's mom, insisted on printing it out. He sent out a silent thanks to his mother, her once again saving him from ineffable doom. Once he found your name, a rather pretty name, he searched you up and found out every bit of information he could of you.
While intaking all of the findings of you, he memorized your schedule and knew what time your free period was. The exact same time you two met in the library. After a tiny bit more research (this time on yours and your friends social media) he found out that everyday you went to the library to study or decompress.
The day after he met the book-reading girl, Fitz took the whole day to watch your every step. He knew it was creepy, but he didn't mean it in a weird way. He just needed to make sure you continued on with your daily schedule and didn't change it up. It wasn't in a weird way.
Even if this goes bad, you both still could be friends. From the info he gathered from your friend's social, you seemed pretty cool. Well, not cool necessarily. You were shy, awkward, always ran from the camera, had a couple friends but weren't that close to any of them, spent your time with inanimate objects more than the living, and other stuff that if Keefe found out about he would definitely bully you—and Fitz for liking you.
But Keefe didn't matter right now. All that mattered was opening this library door to the place that he will recall to your future children. 'This building is where I met your mother.'
He could already imagine it.
Woah Fitz, a voice in his head spoke. She doesn't even know you, must less want to date you.
He let out a sigh, stepping into Eternalia Library. He wasn't sure if you were here yet—not seeing you on his way here—so he decided to walk around for a little bit. Catch up on some reading. Go get the telepathy book, the same voice from before spoke.
Right. That.

Ten minutes passed of utter boredom before you arrived. Fitz looked up from his book, eyes widening at the sight of you. You looked pretty much the same—Foxfire uniform on, hair down, eyes shining from the way the light reflected on them. You smiled warmly at the Librarian working, even greeting them with a nod before walking towards the back of the building, passing behind the bookshelves, escaping Fitz's sight.
He waited a couple minutes—or seconds—before following you. He memorized the night before what he was going to say, but now standing a couple feet behind you, he forgot all of it.
He knocked on the wood, gaining your attention. Your eyes widened at the sight of him, looking slightly panicked. Fitz knew he had that affect on people, seen it on multiple girls before, but none of them looked like they wanted to run away and go die in a hole. Huh. Weird.
"Hello, I don't think we formally met yet." He smiled a hopefully confident smile, praying that you couldn't hear his heartbeat going rampid. Play it cool Fitz. Play it cool.
He reached out his hand. "I'm Fitz, what's your name?" Great job.
You told him your name, returning a half smile. You weren't the talkative type, Fitz could tell that much, so he put it on his responsibility to keep the conversation flowing.
"What are you reading?" He asked, peeking over slightly. You perked up at that, clearly excited to tell him about it.
"Romeo and Juliet," you say, hands hugging the hardback. "It's a human classic. Found it in the very back."
"I didn't know we carried human books."
You swayed from foot to foot. "That's what most people think, but when you go looking and become friends with the Librarian, there's more than you think."
"Really?" Fitz raised his eyebrows. You were quite cute, avoiding eye contact, chewing anxiously on your bottom lip. He didn't want to make you nervous—though he supposed if he doesn't, you'll never be friends.
You nodded. "Yeah! Um," you looked around again, avoiding eye contact once more. "Do you suppose you want me to show you some?" You were fidgeting now, fingers rubbing against each other, crossing and moving against the smooth skin.
He smirked. Yeah, I could get use to this. "Of course," He motioned with his arms. "Lead the way, sweetheart."
The nickname felt natural against his tongue, it slipping out on instinct. He was quite glad he said it too, for the reaction of you blushing a deep crimson made all his hard work to get to this moment worth the while. Hell, you could've ran away right at this moment, never seeing him again, and he would've been just fine if this picture stayed with him. Well that's a lie, he would not be fine. But he would feel a bit better if you did end up running. Hopefully you don't though.
He followed you through the maze of bookshelves, easing through every twist and turn. You went at a fast pace, already knowing where you're going. He had to speed up a bit from how fast you were moving—not that he minded.
You guys reached the back of the library, a secret place he had never thought to go before. It was hidden in a corner, pushed in the back under the stairs going up to the second floor. There was about a hundred books there, all printed in English. Times like these where Fitz really wished he was a polyglot.
You seemed to realize that too because you stopped and turned towards him, "are you a polyglot?" You asked, looking up at him.
He shook his head. "No I'm not."
Your eyes widened again and stammered, "I'm so sorry! Well not like sorry for you not being a polyglot that's out of both of our controls, but I'm sorry for showing this to you! I mean I show you books that you can't even read! That's horrible I'm sorr-"
"Y/n." He interrupted. God could you get any more adorable?
You stopped abruptly, hands shooting to your sides. "Sorry." You muttered, looking down.
Fitz laughed softly, looking at you with gentle admiration shining in his eyes. "You don't have to apologize."
He grabbed the book you were still holding. "Now, tell me about this book you were reading."
He grinned down at the awkward girl, her returning a smaller, delicate, smile.
Yeah, he could definitely get used to this.
