I know we’re all feeling like shit right now because, unlike in the movies, the bad guys won even though we tried our hardest, but listen.
You need to keep calling.
Make it part of your routine. Call your rep’s office and both of your senators’ offices at least once a week. Tell them you are a constituent and you are angry about [the next outrage].
Be a regular. Make them learn your name. Don’t back down.
Because they want you to feel hopeless. They want you to give up. That’s how they won in 2024 and that’s how they won today. By making you feel that what you do doesn’t matter.
Don’t let up. Don’t stop calling. Don’t stop holding them to account.
This is a marathon, not a sprint.
Spend 5 minutes. Make 5 calls. Make your voice heard.

I've seen the five calls site circulating a lot and I think that's awesome because it really does take away almost all of the executive functioning challenges involved in calling representatives, at least for me.
I'm literally sitting in bed right now.. well kind of slouching in bed right now... And it's almost 2:00 a.m. my time and I just called my representatives. While I don't recommend this as a strategy to help you get really peaceful sleep, I feel way less anxious leaving a voicemail for my reps than I do having somebody pick up. And I also like knowing that I'm not going to have to potentially wait on hold or any such nonsense.
You can call your reps at night and leave a voicemail.
I highly recommend it. And the five calls app/site. If you do call and leave a voicemail, though it's recommended that you make sure to leave your full address and clearly spell your name, so that you can be sure that your comment is counted.
Spend 5 minutes. Make 5 calls. Make your voice heard.
I do want to also note that I have heard people with liberal representatives saying they think there's no point in calling because their rep is already doing everything they can and to that I ask if you have ever cheered somebody on where they are doing something very difficult or scary?
And I have heard people who have conservative Representatives saying that there is no point in calling them because they're just going to do what they want to do anyway.
And if I was only hearing one of these arguments, I think I would have more faith that either of them is accurate. But there is evidence that Representatives do listen to angry constituents. This doesn't necessarily mean that they change what they do, but these calls can make a difference, especially in the aggregate.
It's like voting. Yeah, most of the time one vote is not breaking the tie. But if enough people do it, you get a different result. I think one of the challenges in both cases is that you need to believe and trust that there are other people also rooting for things that you are rooting for and that it is worth it to put your voice out there.
I understand there are reasons that people feel afraid or incapable of making these calls and I'm not over here planning to sit in judgment on that, but I think there might be some logical fallacies involved in the way that folks are making these decisions and I think it's being run more by feeling helpless then actually making a rational assessment that there's no point in trying.
If nothing else, I want to be able to look back on 2025 and know that I at least tried to do something. Maybe there's some things that we can do will help. I have to believe that there's a chance of that.
btw i just finally got around to setting up the 5 Calls app and making my first five calls. It's super easy; just do your calls after 5 PM to be sure you won't end up speaking to a live person, read the script, and you're done.
The most troublesome part is having to listen to their whole outgoing message to find out what you have to press before you can start talking, and I'm guessing that since I'll be calling pretty much the same people every day, it won't take long before I've memorized what to press for each one.

in light of some recent conversations on my dash: this is a really good, updated- daily site for quick actions through phone calls. They give you the script and the numbers, and log each call for you so you know what you’ve already called about that day.
