While Vangelis' Chariots of Fire is usually all about the title theme, we mustn't forget its other cuts, such as this one. Sure, it is not as triumphant as the eponymous tune, yet it does something much more interesting. I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know how they use it in there, but I hear this composition as a great aural description of what happens after a person achieves something incredible. He/she is at the top of the world, he/she is happy, everything is ecstatic, but then – what next? Vangelis captures the feeling of positive melancholy that follows a great success with this melody that is both sad and defiant. There is a sense that the joy does not want to end, even though one is aware that it must.
