Today, I decided to wear a pair of pants I haven't touched in two years. They are ridiculously comfortable, and they even have pockets, so I wasn't sure why I hadn't worn them.
Then I remembered: they have Stupid Girl Pockets that hold my lip balm and not much else.
So I got mad and fixed them.
There are nice, clean, professional ways to do this. If I were fixing anyone else's pockets, I would do it with nice finished seams and fabric matching.
However, I am full of spite and don't give a shit, so I did it the fast, loose, quick, and dirty way, and you know what? It works.
Check out these useless pockets.
With this little room in them, I won't wear them. That means these pants are useless and a waste of money, and that shit doesn't fly in my house.
Nice, neat fix: rip the seam at the waist, remove the pocket, replace with a bigger one, reattach. But I am on a time limit today and am never going to fix it the nice way, so. Quick and dirty method it is.
Quick and dirty method: measure the pocket from the waistband to the bottom, which in my case was 7". Grab a piece of scrap fabric you don't care about that looks roughly the width you want, cut out 14", fold in half, pin. Like so.
I don't know why I have the paisley fabric. It must have been free. Either way, I pinned that sucker so the nice side is on the outside as though anyone but me is gonna look in my pocket.
Seam. I did 1/4" because that is easy but you do you.
I didn't use a serger, just did a zig zag and a straight stitch to reinforce the seam. You don't even need a sewing machine, really, you could hand stitch it.
Voila. Now the pocket doesn't fucking suck.
Next, let's attack the back pockets, equally useless. For this one, I used a leftover piece of an old bedsheet because why not.
Quick and dirty process: roughly the same. Cut open the bottom of the pocket, cut a piece of fabric about the size you want, sew.
Whoops, sewed this inside out. Oh well, that happens sometimes. They don't have to win a beauty contest, just hold my shit.
Also, I did not even cut them nicely. I just ripped it open with my seam ripper because I am out of fucks this morning!
Know what, I have 20 minutes before work, let's sew on some snaps to keep em closed.
And now they hold my wallet and keep it in, here are my full size sewing shears for scale.
Done. Now my fucking pants have pockets that work and I have done my part to thwart capitalist waste for the day.
Now I will wear the damn things. Armed with this forbidden pocket knowledge, go forth, my friends! Conquer the useless pockets in your life with random scraps, no cash, and spite.
Biker!Curtis fixing the sink while mousey crafts with the boys at the kitchen table. Her eyes are not on the craft tho
The plunger wouldn’t cut it anymore, and despite your efforts to use Drano so the line would be clearer, the sink was still backed up and plugged. You’d done your fair share of trying to fix the sink though you were no plumber and you didn’t know where to begin in fixing it other than knowing to turn off the water access under the sink.
You then had to make the decision to find Curtis and ask him who you should call. You had approached his office while he was talking with one of his bigger, more intimidating friends, and crept into the room to ask him about possibly calling a plumber for the sink.
Curtis, true to his nature, had told you that he’d handle it and you left just as quickly as you had gotten there. You had shrugged it off and left it alone, taking stock in the knowledge that Curtis said he would handle it and moved onto the tasks you’d wanted to complete.
“Mini-pumpkins.” You sat at the table with Theo and James, a handful of elastic bands and plastic spoons. “We’re making catapults.”
You’d given them clear instructions and had only started to help them wind the elastics around their mini-pumpkins when Curtis entered the kitchen with a bag of tools by his side and a towel in his hands. He had stalked right past you to the kitchen sink, first setting the tools on the counter and then glancing your way.
“I’m handling it.”
“Curtis,” you departed the boys and walked toward him, “when you said you were handling it, I thought you meant you were hiring someone.”
“Mousey,” Curtis let the pet name fall from his lips again, as he opened the cupboard doors and dropped the tool bag to the floor, “I’m not having some fuck I don’t know or trust in my home with my boys and my girlfriend.”
Your heart hammered in your chest, the first time he had ever called you his girlfriend and it was before he became a handyman. “But…isn’t the point of being the boss having the luxury of not having to do these things yourself? To have a professional do it?”
Curtis’ scowl was poignant and you had squirmed where you stood, his eyes burning holes into you. “I can fucking do it.”
“I didn’t…I didn’t mean to make you angry-“ You stuttered and stammered, looking back over your shoulder at Theo and James who were still busy. “Curtis I’m sorry-“
“Stop apologizing, mousey. Your voice is distracting.” Curtis hadn’t even begun yet and he was already losing concentration.
“My voice? How is my voice-“
“Because every time I hear your voice, I think about what other sounds you could make in the kitchen.” Curtis’ comment had you snapping your mouth closed, and you turned sharply on your heel and scurried back to the table, taking your place in the middle of the two boys.
Curtis smirked and dropped behind the counter, his knees hitting the tiles before he dug into the bag and pulled out the appropriately sized crescent wrench. “I’ll find out sooner rather than later, baby. You and I are going to christen every surface in this place.”
Summary: Stiles finds out about the serial killer the same way he finds out most things - by eavesdropping on his dad.
Stiles finds out about the serial killer the way he finds out most things - by eavesdropping on his dad.
Some FBI agents had contacted his dad, saying they were following up on a serial killer and could they come look at some old case files?
The Sheriff, of course, had agreed, and Stiles had spent an entire afternoon lurking around the station waiting for them to arrive. (Scott had declined to join him as the other boy had no interest in FBI agents as a result of his own father).
Two agents had turned up, a tall, lanky young man who appeared to be able to spout off even more facts than Stiles could, and also stay relatively on topic. And a woman with dark hair and 'dont cross me' vibes.
They'd requested some case files before holing up in an interview room to go over them. Stiles had managed to hear them speaking on the phone to someone who sounded absolutely awesome before he was spotted and dragged before his father.
After which he'd ended up sitting in the Sheriff's office until it was time to go home.
But he'd heard mention of something before he was caught that had his mind spinning. Arson.
The FBI agents were tracking a suspected serial killer arsonist.
It didnt take much for his thoughts to jump to the Hales, and the burnt-out husk of a house in the woods.
It'd been years since the fire, but it was a well-known tragedy in the town's history. Even if Stiles himself had been more preoccupied at the time with his mother's declining health.
He tried to find out more from his dad, but the Sheriff was even more tight-lipped than usual.
The agents left after a couple of days, but they'd seemed pleased and he overheard them talking about having a solid lead.
They were back again just a week later, along with even more agents, and they turned the hospital upside down.
Well, not literally, but it turned out they'd found their serial killer. Not only that, but they'd been able to link her to a network of serial killers.
One of whom had been working in the hospital in order to keep an eye on the sole survivor of the Hale fire - Peter Hale.
Who, once the serial killer's accomplice was removed, had a sudden improvement in his health.
The agents' return had coincided with Laura Hale showing up in town for the first time since the fire, and Stiles had seen one of the Agents speaking rather seriously with her as she held a trembling hand to her lips.
A couple of weeks later, Peter Hale had been transferred elsewhere, Laura Hale clutching his hand all the way to his transport, and all that was left were rumours.
At first, Stiles was upset that the serial killer hadn't actually been in the town. As that would have been more exciting than the capture of an evil nurse in his teenage brain.
But then life had moved on and before he knew it he was graduating school and looking at further study and what it would take to get into the FBI.
Because while he'd always kinda thought he'd like to work for the FBI, he'd been rather impressed by the idea of tracking serial killers, and solving years old crimes that had gone unnoticed.
So, well, Stiles ended up joining the FBI.
His first day at Quantico he bumped into (literally), the hottest guy he'd ever seen in his life, who smiled at him (and oh, dimples!), and introduced himself as Derek Hale.
lowkey content warning for carry on hate / criticism in the entire post (coming from someone whose biggest comfort rn is literally snowbaz) (non-canon though :P) and of course rainbow rowell hate (a lot of it)
Or, as I like to call this version of fix-it friday:
(this is a joke btw) (the event itself)
Fix-It Carry On Fridays (AKA “Fvck R@inbow R*well” Fridays) are an opportunity to have an open discussion with the Carry On Fandom about what we hate most about canon every (Fix-It) Friday ☀️
You can complain about character development, bad writing, bad representation, sexualization & fetishization, any other specific issues, just shit on racist r*well, or whatever you feel like doing! You should be allowed to complain and criticize the content you consume, and we need spaces to be open about this in fandoms!
It can be just for venting, cathartic reasons, or because you feel like the fandom needs to acknowledge some issues
🌈 If you actually want to take this seriously and be a part of it, here’s how you participate: however you want! Talk about issues in an open post, on someone’s DMs, even in the reblog tags of this post if will. Whatever you feel comfortable doing!
A nice way to contribute to this dialogue is to write and/or promote Fix-It Fics / Fix-It fanworks in general (duh, that’s in the name of the event) or works where you actually address stuff that Miss R*well apparently just doesn’t care about ! And if you’re not a content creator, you can just complain about whatever you want to complain about and maybe throw a fix-it prompt out there!
Please tag everything on this with “#fix-it carry on friday” or just “#fix-it carry on” so I can see the callout posts and check if anyones actually doing this thanks ♥️ Have a good day!
NOTE the first: If you think Carry On is perfect and loves Rainbow Rowell, I suggest you 1) really think about whys that and 2) just mute the “fix it carry on friday” / “fix it carry on” tag. I honestly don’t think it’s bad to complain about a racist, bad, problematic writer, and her problematic and honestly kind of badly written book that has a LOT of issues that NEED to be addressed
NOTE the second: Carry On is literally my comfort universe and the characters mean a lot to me, but the canonverse can suck it and r*well too. If you’re uncomfortable with this or with being a part of this it’s 100% understandable, but 1) try to get my joke and 2) don’t think the world is going to end because your racist bad disrespectful fav writer is being called out and your favorite book has flaws being pointed out
It’s Fix-It-Friday!
With...Ghostbusters Crossover Pony Plasmane!
Here Hasbro once again proves they’re not real sure what a horse is with this sad red toy. WHAT ANIMAL has the eye there? Maybe some sort of underwater slug or something??? What are they thinking! Yeah ok the total lack of sculpting for the eye on the face (it’s just a sticker) is really cheap and lazy, but at LEAST bother to put the blasted sticker where an eye goes! This isn’t pin the tail on the pony, you don’t have to wear a blindfold.
This poor thing better be fixed before it actually gets onto store shelves or no one will want her. I just did the “Eye Position Fix” art to prove how easy it is to make the pony properly. I didn’t even bother to fix the cut off shine dot or trim out the black underline from ahead of the pupil (go look at actual G1 eye anatomy it’s like...super easy but speficic) on purpose just to show what moving the eye into a natural position would do.
Maybe share this post around a bit? Toss it at Hasbro?
Reblog it or something if you want her cured? It’s not too late to fix her, hopefully. As a Ghostbusters fan (Movie 1 and cartoon Slimer & Egon were the best when I was like 5--Can’t beat Ecto Cooler Drinks!) I would love an awesome pony themed for them that ain’t afraid of no ghosts...but I am afraid of bad quality toys. If this fix gets out maybe she can be saved and will become a worth while buy for MLP fans and Ghostbuster fans alike.
