Okay, so I decided to write a little something because after I made this post I decided that I needed to see this man give in to his little crush. So I hope you like whatever this is I just came up with! I used a combination of the deleted scene and the scene in the film for this.

An Interlude in the Woods - A Fiyeraba One-Shot
Word Count: 1188
[Synopsis: Alone in the woods with the Lion cub, tensions are heightened which leans to confessions being made and changes being set into motion.
OR:
When Elphaba begins her rambling, Fiyero finds a much more creative way in which to shut her up]
----------
“So,” He said, glancing this way and that at the woodland around him when the path suddenly separated off, the Lion cub still tucked safely beneath his jacket. “We could go this way…or we could go this way.”
“Don’t squeeze him.” She replied, completely ignoring what he’d just said.
“I’m not,” He frowned just as the cub began to stir against his chest, meowling quietly. “Oh, I think he’s waking up.”
She rolled her eyes. “We can’t just let him loose anywhere. We’ve got to find someplace safe.”
“Yeah, I realize that,” He retorted, turning back to her. “You think I’m really stupid, don’t you?”
“No, not really stupid,” She scoffed right before the cub began to squirm, tucked beneath one of his arms, and she watched as he stumbled and fell to the ground right in front of her when one of its claws caught him. He righted himself again almost instantly, and she took a step closer to him in an attempt to settle the cub as he began to wriggle against his chest again in an attempt to get free. “Alright, um, just can…can you stop?”
“Ow. He’s wriggling He’s a wriggler.”
“He’s wriggling because you’re holding him the wrong way. Stay still! Breathe.”
He had to bite his tongue, but he did as he was told and took a deep breath to calm himself down.
“Thank you,” She said before turning her attention back to the cub and reaching out to stroke its face gently with the back of her hand. Almost immediately, it began to relax and she smiled when it nuzzled against her. She eased it carefully out of his hold and into her own, continuing to speak quietly to it so as not to traumatize it any more than it already had been, and when it settled she glanced up at him again with a smirk. “See?”
He rolled his eyes as she stepped around him and began to walk off towards the river with the cub in her arms, but he was unable to keep the smile from playing at the corner of his mouth.
This was a side to her that he hadn’t seen until now.
This softer, tenderer side.
And, he had to admit, he was a big fan of it.
“You don’t have to be afraid of me,” He heard her say as he made his way up behind her. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
Removing his jacket, he tossed it onto the ground and begun unbuttoning the cuffs on his sleeves. “Why is it you’re always causing some sort of commotion?”
“I don’t cause commotions—I am one.” She told him, her back to him as she knelt there on the ground.
“Yeah,” He replied. “Well, that’s for sure.
She was quiet for a brief moment and then: “So you think I should just keep my mouth shut, is that what you’re saying?”
There it was. That defensiveness again.
He frowned. “What? No. No, I’m saying—”
“You think I want to be this way?”
“I—”
“You think I want to care this much?”
“No, I mean—”
“I know that my life would be much easier if I didn’t care, but—”
Before she could even finish her sentence—before his brain had been given so much as a second to catch up—he found himself walking in her direction, his legs moving of their own accord, and before he was able to stop himself he was catching both of them completely off guard by taking her face in his hands and pressing his lips against hers. He had no idea what he was doing. He knew he should stop—he knew that he should just grab the Lion cub and get it to safety, purely to create some space between them if nothing more—but he couldn’t bring himself to do so. Her skin was so warm and her lips were so soft and he only found himself losing himself deeper in her with every second that passed. He was certain that she would shove him off any second and she would have been well within her rights to do so, but instead? She surprised him once again.
Instead of pushing him away and slapping him as he’d been expecting her to, she sighed into his mouth as she slowly began to relax into the kiss. He felt her take a step closer to him so that there chests were almost touching, and when she brought her hands to his waist through his shirt he began walking her backwards on instinct. Her back eventually came into contact with the trunk of one of the trees surrounding them, and he found himself burying the fingers of one hand in her hair as his mouth moved almost lazily over her own, his nails scraping against her scalp in a way that made her moan gently as she arched into him. The sound was enough to break through the spell that had fallen over him, and he pulled away from her—though their faces were still close enough that he could feel her warm breath puffing against his face as she looked up at him.
“Wh—”
“You’re right,” It was his turn to interrupt, the words leaving him as a breath as he touched his forehead to hers. “Your life would be much easier if you didn’t care so much. But then…but then you wouldn’t be you. And I love that part of you the most. The part of you that cares more about…well, everything…more than anyone else I know. Are you infuriating? Yes. Do you drive me mad? Oz, yes. But I wouldn’t have you any other way.”
For a moment, she was silent, still trying to get some control over her breathing as she stood there between him and the trunk of the tree, but finally she managed to find words. “I—I don’t know what to say, I…”
“You don’t need to say anything,” He shook his head, running the back of a hand tenderly down her cheek and smiling when her eyes fell closed. “Let’s just get this cub to safety first, yeah? We’ll deal with the rest later.”
Smiling, she gave him a little nod before he pressed one final kiss to her lips and moved away from her to go and pick up the Lion cub again. He tucked it carefully back beneath his jacket and began walking deeper into the woods, and she found herself following behind him once more as she ran a hand through her hair. This was going to be complicated, she knew. He was involved with Galinda. She was convinced they were going to get married and live happily ever after like they did in those far-fetched fairytales she’d read as a child, but something told her that that wasn’t going to be the case. Not if Fiyero had any say in the matter.
Something told her that things were going to go in a different direction to the one she had in mind.
They were going to go in a different direction entirely…
Touch Starved, 3,643 words, Explicit, Complete (1/1)
Elphaba knew she shouldn’t have let Fiyero disturb her when had to study. But in her defense, her boyfriend always gave the best cuddles.
Unfortunately for her productivity—and fortunately for her everything else—he’s very, very good at cuddling…And if those cuddles escalate? Well. She really should’ve seen it coming.
Elphaba really needs to learn how to say no to this man. But not tonight.

“Don’t let me disturb you,” he said.
The warmth of his palm grazed the inside of her thigh, rubbing gentle circles that were everywhere and also nowhere close to where she needed them to be.
“Go on, don’t mind me here.”
He held her pen out with another hand, and she took it, clicking the pen a bit too aggressively and opening the notebook to some unknown page. She probably scribbled something, but Oz help her if she could remember what it was.
Elphaba wasn’t sure why she always fought this. But she couldn’t lose.
Let's pretend there is some plot here, and its not just Fiyeraba being horny in a Shiz Era fic, okay? Technically a sequel to "the forbidden corn" and "on bodies: theory and practice in three parts", but can be also read separately.

They lay on the sand, with Fiyero's head resting in the arms of his love. The sight above them was stunning. The brilliant stars shimmered amidst the leaves of the trees surrounding this beautiful scenery. It was genuinely a delight for the sight. Yet, it is entirely clear that Fiyero would oppose this loud assertion, as he would argue that Elphaba is the most stunning vision he has ever encountered.
Even though they would never confess to one another, many thoughts burdened their minds.
Fiyero no longer felt the same level of self-assurance that he once had before assuming this scarecrow form. Maybe because he secretly understood that, in the past, his good looks were all that truly mattered. Yet one thing had stayed constant, both in his thoughts and in his emotions: his unselfish affection for Elphaba. He was now with her, sleeping and waking up each day next to her. All five years of longing and pain were now in his past. Moreover, there remained a fair amount of good traits regarding him.
He closed his eyes upon thinking of them. To begin with, he didn't need to comb his hair or worry about how it looked. Secondly, Elphaba continued to enjoy stroking his face and other areas that required her full focus. His mere glance still had the power to make Elphaba weak in the knees.
Moreover, Elphaba claimed he was an excellent cuddler. His awkward yet smooth movements prompted her laughter. He was as light as a feather, which he saw as his chance to be on her without applying any pressure. He remained an excellent dancer, though not as elegant as he once was.
Meanwhile, Elphaba had other thoughts on her mind. She couldn't understand how challenging and painful it must be for Fiyero to awaken each day and recall he was a different person. Despite his lack of complaints, she couldn't absolve herself for it. She attempted to rescue him and, in the process, transformed him.
"I have changed." Fiyero had mentioned it to her once.
But, it was different now.Maybe he would never be able to forgive her. Maybe he wouldn't mention it to her to avoid disturbing her. One thing she was certain of regarding him was his love for her.
A soft wind swept across the beach, lifting a slight cloud of dust. The dust, along with the straw that formed Fiyero, caused Elphaba to sneeze forcefully. Fiyero sat up, gazing at Elphaba with the most tenderly anxious expression any man has ever shown a woman.
"Sweetheart, are you okay?" He inquired in a panic. He was so attentive with her, like nobody else in her entire life.
He listened to her cute chuckle and swore to himself he had never heard a more divine sound before.
"I'm okay, Fiyero." She comforted him, offering him that gentle gaze she knew he cherished. At that precise moment, he desperately wanted to kiss her, as he found her to be so ethereal, but her welfare took priority.
"We should better get inside. You could end up with a cold out here." She was unable to obtain her laughter. He raised a question eyebrow at her reaction.
"That's not it. It was merely a bit of sand....and straw. Well, maybe both of them." She remarked, indicating his straw hair.
He lifted his hand above his head to find a little dust on his hair. They looked at one another for a moment before breaking into laughter.
Once their laughter faded, Fiyero spoke once more.
"I'm truly sorry, Elphaba. I wasn't trying to spoil our night." He apologized to her with a seemingly sorrowful tone. After an extended period, they relished some moments together, and he was the one to mess things up.
"You don't need to apologise. You and Liir are everything I could ever ask for." He reached for her hand, a hint of doubt tumbling on his features.
"Do you really mean that? Because I realize I'm not the person I once was. You had countless reasons to want me in the past, but now I realize I—" She quieted him using the only method she deemed effective.
She kissed him passionately and affectionately. He kissed her back with even greater passion, momentarily forgetting what had happened moments before. His arms encircled her waist as he drew her closer, his lips brushing against her neck and collarbone.A groan slipped from Elphaba's throat. She longed for his touch, even if it was ticklish.
He slid the fabric of her dress down along one of her arms while he placed a heated, open-mouthed kiss on her skin. Elphaba's fingers were entwined in his hair, her lips searching hungrily for his beneath the moonlight.
"Oh, dear God, I've missed you." Fiyero groaned against her lips, and so did she. They had not been close for a long time now. And no, his change into a scarecrow was unrelated to it. The birth of their son brought them immense happiness, yet simultaneously took away their personal time together as a couple.
"What's wrong? Is mother in pain?" The sound of Liir's voice had them instantly alarmed as they broke apart from each other's embrace. Elphaba fixed her clothes as Fiyero motioned for his son's hand.
"She is well, my child."He comforted him as he wrapped him in a warm embrace, placing a kiss on his head.
"I merely felt a slight shiver, that's all." Elphaba stated as she gazed at the two men in her life, her eyes showing pure affection.Liir embraced his mother unexpectedly, causing Fiyero to chuckle at the adorable scene before him.
"If that's the case, why aren't you dressed in something warmer?" Elphaba looked for Fiyero's gaze, desiring his support like never before. He resembled his father in terms of intelligence. Fiyero offered her a guilty smile as he ruffled his son's hair. She couldn't tell the truth to her child that she was attempting to allure his father. She was unable to convey that to her son.
"There's no need for you to be concerned about me, Liir. I'm fine as long as you and your dad are with me." She informed her son prior to tapping his nose.
She glanced at Fiyero understandingly before they both began tickling Liir. The young child couldn't help but laugh.Liir rested on the sand between his parents, truly happy. Fiyero pointed out the stars and shared wonderful tales about them. He was a remarkable storyteller, which was another great quality complementing his prior ones.
Their small family was indeed a gift. They ultimately achieved their joyful conclusion, a conclusion that Fiyero and Elphaba both earned.
[Synopsis: Almost a year after Elphaba's departure from the Emerald City, Fiyero finally tracks her down. What begins as a reunion quickly becomes something far deeper when he confesses the truth he's carried since their days at Shiz:

It was the sound of sizzling and the smell of eggs being cooked that pulled Fiyero from sleep the next morning. Cracking one eye open, he shifted beneath the blanket and smiled when he caught sight of Elphaba kneeling beside the firepit in the middle of the room. She was still clad in her nightdress, her long hair hanging freely down her back, and she was pushing the eggs she must have come across in the woods around a makeshift pan with a spatula she must have carved herself. For a moment, he said nothing. He took the time to admire her in the morning light that came in through the entrance of the hideout, tucking an arm lazily beneath his head as he laid there in silence, but before too long the urge to make her aware he was up won out.
“You know, I was joking about the whole breakfast thing.” His voice was still rough with sleep.
She glanced over at him at the sound, her hand stilling for a second before a smile tugged at the corner of her mouth and she turned to look at him properly with the spatula still in hand. “Yeah, but the journey back is probably going to take you a while and you shouldn’t have to go all that way without eating something first,” She pointed out with a shrug. “Complaining?”
He shook his head with a smirk. “I’d have even less to complain about if you came over here and gave me a proper good morning.”
Rolling her eyes at him, she glanced at the eggs still cooking in the pan to make sure they weren’t burning before turning her attention back to him and crawling back across the dirt floor to where he was lying. She laid down beside him on her front when she reached him, her eyes falling closed on instinct when he brought a hand up and grazed her cheek with the backs of his fingers. He was still looking at her when she opened her eyes again, nothing but pure love and admiration in his eyes as he laid there, and after bringing her own hand to rest upon his chest, she leaned down and captured him in a soft and slow kiss. She felt his hand bury itself in her hair as they settled into it, his other hand sliding around to her lower back through her nightdress so that he could pull her closer. The kiss remained innocent enough for a time, but then he touched his tongue to her lower lip and she parted for him without hesitation and it deepened in an instant. She moaned softly into his mouth when his tongue found her own, her hand venturing up his chest to the side of his neck as he used the arm wrapped around her waist to roll her beneath him. They parted for a moment then, chuckling breathily, before she stretched up and captured him in another kiss as her leg worked its way up around his waist.
He had forgotten all about the breakfast she was in the middle of cooking for him if he was being honest. The only thing on his mind as he began trailing his kisses away from her mouth, across her cheek to her neck, was her. Reaching down, he let his hand slip beneath the hem of her nightdress as his lips brushed against the hinge of her jaw, and the way that her breath caught and she arched into him when his fingers danced across her bare thigh made him smile against her skin as he started trailing soft, open-mouthed kisses down the side of her neck.
“Tell me not go to back,” He murmured, his fingers still tracing idle patterns against her thigh. “Tell me not to go back, and I won’t. I’ll hide out here with you for the rest of my life.”
His words, along with the sound of the eggs popping in the pan, were enough to break the spell for her and she brought a hand up to his chest before pushing him away from her slightly. “You know I would if I thought I could,” She sighed. “But you have to go back in order for this to work. You have to act as though nothing has changed. If they catch on, they’ll come looking for me and then you’ll be in as much danger as I am. We only have to do this until the engagement announcement, remember? On the day of the announcement, I’ll make them listen to me about the Wizard and – if it goes the way I’m hoping – we won’t have to live in hiding. We won’t have to keep this a secret. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to have to live that way.”
He looked at her in silence for a time before leaning down and pressing a kiss to her temple. “No. No, neither do I.”
When he moved from over her, falling onto his back again among the blankets, she returned to the fire-pit and took the pan off the heat before using the spatula to move the eggs onto a wooden plate. She waited for him to sit up before she handed his breakfast to him, moving to sit back down next to him when he began to eat and smiling when he put an arm around her shoulders with ease. She couldn’t believe how easy this was. How natural it felt. They hadn’t seen each other in almost a year now, but time hadn’t changed anything. They were still just as – if not more, given this new turn of events – comfortable with one another as they had been all that time ago and that was something she gave thanks for. It just made this so much easier.
“So…” She said eventually. “Do you know the date for the announcement yet?”
He swallowed the mouthful of egg he was eating before glancing her way. “Not yet. But I think Glinda and the Wizard would prefer it to be sooner rather than later, so I’d say it’ll be about a fortnight or less. When I get back, I’ll try to find out more. The next time I come, I should have a date. Then we can plan things properly. Do you even have an idea in mind yet? What to do?”
“I’ll have to do it by air,” She said, more to herself than to him as she pieced the idea together in her own mind. “It would be too dangerous to do it in person – to make myself a part of the crowd – not just for me, but for you too. Maybe I’ll write it. Use the clouds or something. That way, if things end up going sideways, I can get out of there quickly enough to get back here.”
“I still don’t like the idea. You know that,” He tightened his hold of her, his thumb brushing gently against her arm. “If anything were to happen to you, I-”
“I know,” She soothed. “But I know what I’m doing. I’ll plan things properly, I promise. I’ll even do a practice-run beforehand if it’ll make you feel better. I just need you to trust me, Yero.”
She barely had the time to finish her sentence before he leaned in to kiss her softly, letting it linger for several long seconds before he pulled back again. “I do. I trust you implicitly…”
The two of them fell into a comfortable silence after that, her head against his shoulder while she watched him eat, and – far sooner than either of them would have liked – the time finally came for him to get ready to leave. She remained there on the bed as she watched him get to his feet and find the shirt he had removed before coming to bed last night, her eyes fixed on him as he pulled it back on and buttoned it up. She knew he had to leave. She was the one telling him to do so when he’d made it quite clear he had no desire to. But that didn’t make the thought of him being gone – of being all alone again here in exile – any easier for her to bear. She was going to be reminded of just how lonely it was out here, just her and the Animals.
“Promise me you won’t stay away too long?” She asked him with a raise of an eyebrow.
He chuckled under his breath as he tucked his shirt into his pants before holding a hand out in offer to her. “Come here.”
She got to her feet in an instant at his words, making her way over to him and slipping her hand into his before he pulled her close and wrapped both arms around her to keep her in place. “I’ll be back before you know it,” His voice had a tenderness to it that made the love she already had for him deepen tenfold. “I’ll have to wait a few days so as not to draw any suspicion, but then I’ll just tell Glinda I’m going out searching again. That’ll give me two, maybe three days before anyone expects me back in the city and, believe me, neither of us are leaving that bed.”
“Mmm…” She ran her hands up and down the front of his chest. “I guess the thought of that will be enough to keep me going until then.”
He shook his head good-naturedly at her teasing before stooping to brush a slow and soft kiss against her lips. “I love you. You know that, don’t you?”
“Yeah…” She managed to keep her voice from shaking despite how much her heart was racing at his admission. She still wasn’t used to hearing those words. “I love you too.”
With one final kiss to her forehead, he took his arms from around her and led her by the hand to the entrance of her hideout before stepping into the morning. “I’ll see you in a few days.”
She watched him walk away from her then and make his way down the little embankment to Feldspur, and within moments he was gone – riding back off into the woods in the direction he came. The second she was alone once more, the silence engulfed her as she had known it would and she sighed deeply to herself as she crossed her arms and leaned against the dirt wall.
Now, she waited…
----------
It was late in the day by the time he returned to the Emerald City, and the first thing he did was make his way to Glinda’s headquarters as he always did after returning from another search, She liked to be kept in the know, and he had promised Elphaba that he would act as though nothing had changed for the time being. It was the only thing he cared about, protecting her and helping her reveal the Wizard for the fraud he was, and so he’d go along with it until the time came for them to put their plan into action. When he reached Glinda’s door, he knocked and he only had to wait a moment at most before she opened it from the other side. Her face broke into a smile when she saw him and when she threw her arms around him, he made himself draw her close. He felt an instant pang of guilt, knowing he was going behind her back and this was all just an act, but he couldn’t let on to her what was happening. He couldn’t let on to anyone.
“You were gone for days.” She said when she released him at last and stepped aside to let him in, closing the door behind them.
“I know.” He replied, reaching up to run a hand through his hair as he approached the couch and sat himself down on the edge.
She sat down beside him when she reached him, resting a hand over his on his knee. “Did you have any more luck this time?”
“No,” He shook his head, the lie rolling off his tongue with surprising ease. “I tried changing my tactic this time, doing most of my searching at night in case she’s been lying low during the day to protect herself, but there was nothing. No sign of her. I’m beginning to think I can’t do this on my own. There’s way too much ground to cover, and she’s too smart. Smarter than all of us,” He paused for a moment before turning his hand over beneath hers and lacing their fingers, his thumb running over her knuckles as he looked her way and met her gaze. “I’ve been thinking. I know you don’t like it when I do that, but this time I think I have a good idea. What do you think the Wizard would say if I approached him about being made Captain of the Gale Force? I know what I’m doing. I have leadership qualities, and the others are bound to listen to me and take orders given my status. I just think that – were we to eventually find her – I’d be in a better position to protect her. I know that’s what we both want. Neither of us wants to see any harm come to her, so convince the Wizard to let me lead the charge. He doesn’t have to know we’re doing this to keep her safe. All you need to tell him is that I’m – we’re – as set on finding her as the rest of them are, and we think we’ll have far more success doing it this way.”
She thought for a moment, her gaze falling to their hands as she tightened her hold on his. “I suppose I could try. I’m supposed to be having a meeting with him and Madame Morrible this evening. They want to talk to me about our-” She cut herself off, giving him a smile as she looked at him again. “About things. I’ll mention it. It’ll be better if both of them are in agreement.”
He wasn’t stupid.
He knew full well that the words she’d been about to say were ‘our engagement’ and she’d slipped up – still, of course, thinking he had no idea about what he was being forced into – but he bit his tongue. He kept his expression neutral. He couldn’t give her the slightest indication that he knew what was being planned, else he risked throwing the whole plan off before it began.
“She’ll be safer with me at the helm,” He told her, bringing his hand up to tuck her golden curls back behind her ear before running the back of his palm down her cheek in a tender caress. “I don’t know if we’ll even find her, but if she did come out of hiding at some point and someone noticed her then I’d be the one leading. I’m smarter than all those fools put together. I’d only pursue for so long before suddenly ‘losing sight of her’ and telling them to turn back again. I wouldn’t risk anything happening to her. I know how much she means to you, even now.”
“She does,” She nodded. “I hate hearing those horrendible words they say about her. None of it’s true. It’s all lies. She did nothing wrong that day.”
He gave her a look. “You could come out and say that, you know. Tell everyone the truth about what happened. Wouldn’t that be better than living a lie? Letting them make up these things?”
“You don’t know what you’re asking me to do,” She retorted. “I can’t. I’ll lose the Wizard’s faith in me. I’ll lose Madame Morrible’s respect. I…I’ll lose all of this. I’ll lose my privileges.”
He sat there in silence for a second before scoffing softly. “Your privileges…they really matter more to you than Elphaba having her name cleared? You’d rather her spend her life in exile?”
“Fiyero, I never said that.”
“Didn’t you?”
He released her hand then and stood from the couch, but she followed him up and caught his hand before he could take so much as a step away from her.
“Where are you going?” She asked, a hint of something along the lines of desperation in her voice.
“I’m tired,” He told her. “I haven’t stopped in days and I need to freshen up. I’ll come and find you again later, alright? You can tell me how the meeting with Morrible and the Wizard goes.”
She seemed reluctant to do so, but she gave him a little nod in response and he stooped to brush his lips against her cheek in a soft kiss before slipping his hand out of hers once again and making his way across the room to the door. Once he was out in the hall again, the door closed behind him, his hands clenched and unclenched and he had to take a breath to calm himself down. He couldn’t believe how unchanged she was by all of this. Still, after all this time, the opinions of other people was what mattered the most to her. Material things were what mattered most to her. Elphaba was out there living off the land, scared for her safety every waking minute – he didn’t care how much of a brave face she put on, he knew there was a part of her that was constantly on edge – and still, she wouldn’t speak up for her. If he was being truthful, the conversation that he had had with her just now had only helped to strengthen his conviction.
He was definitely making the right decision.
----------
It was late that night when Elphaba finally closed the Grimmerie and carefully blew out the candle, pushing back her chair and getting to her feet so that she could make her way to bed. It had been the longest day she’d had in a while. She’d made her way down to the lake not long after Fiyero had left and she had sat there for a while with some of the Animals, making them aware of their plan and what it would mean for them if things went as she hoped they would. Her plan would expose the Wizard for what he was. A fraud. A man who cared more about his own fame then he did about the people – and the Animals – of Oz. When people learned what he was doing to the Animals – when they learned that he took pleasure in breaking their spirits and stripping them of their rights – surely, they would turn against him. They would join her in her fight against him and, one day, the Animals that had left could return to Oz and live their lives in peace once more. It was the only thing she hoped for more than she hoped that they would finally see that he was the real monster in all of this, not her. She was trying to do good.
Sighing to herself as she pulled back the blanket and climbed into bed, she laid back and tucked an arm beneath her head before gazing up at the scattered stars she could see through the little holes in the roof of her hideout. She loved this place. It had become home to her in the time she’d been here. It had provided her sanctuary and given her shelter when she’d needed it the most. It would be hard, strangely, to say goodbye to it at some point, but she knew that she didn’t belong here. She belonged out in society. Not this society – not under the control of the Wizard – but true society. She belonged with Fiyero and she belonged with Glinda and she belonged with all those who had changed her in one way or another, but that would take time.
First, she needed to get the word out about the Wizard.
She needed to get people to listen and she needed people to take her seriously, and then she could really get things in motion.
She had always said there was strength in numbers, and when an entire city stood up against its leader and fought together for what was right?
Elphaba wanted someone smart, sensitive, studious, serious. A person who would enjoy study dates in the library and romantic walks at night doing horrifically vulnerable things like talking and talking and talking about how they really felt. She wanted someone who actually cared about things as bravely and passionately as she did, someone who openly acted on their beliefs.
Fiyero wasn't that guy. But a part of him wanted to be.
Or: After saving the lion cub together, Fiyero realizes he has feelings for Elphaba. Missing scene exploring his point of view before Elphaba and Galinda go to the Emerald City. ~1300 words.
Elphaba was an enigma. Fiyero couldn't figure her out. She didn't care what people thought…or did she. She was a complete teacher's pet, suck up, and goody-goody…until she’d made everyone else fall asleep during class so the two of them could take the lion cub to safety. She thought Fiyero was a shallow half-wit not worth her time or attention…but then she’d touched his bleeding face during the aforementioned lion cub adventure with so much tenderness it caught him completely off guard.
Fiyero groaned and ran a hand through his carefully coiffed hair, then got out of bed and started pacing his excruciatingly fancy room because it wasn't like he was going to sleep anyway.
Why did he care what Elphaba thought or wanted? He had made it his goal in life not to care.
He very carefully was not, in fact. He’d worked hard for years to hide his true self. To be with her, he would have to give up his player prince persona that kept him safe. He would have to toss it to the wind and be vulnerable and show he cared deeply. And that meant he would get hurt again.
Besides, he had the ideal girlfriend already. Galinda was the whole package. Pretty, pink, popular, perfect. Good family, good match. Yes, she was vain and loud and loved showing off, but so did he, and she had a sweet, caring streak beneath all the pomp and glamour. He was fond of her. He really was.
But did he love her?
He swore and swatted at the curtains as if that would swat the thought out of his mind. This cursed school was getting to him. No one cared about love in a politically expedient relationship. He should count himself lucky that he and Galinda were so fond of each other. That was more than what his parents had ever shared.
No, no, this was entirely too much thinking. He really ought to stop. He threw on his clothes and stepped outside so he could wander around until his mind was empty again.
But of course, his eyes wandered up to where he knew Galinda and Elphaba’s room was, hoping to catch a glimpse, not of his girlfriend, but of the woman he couldn't get out of his mind. Sure enough, Elphaba was out on the balcony, hands on the railing, staring up at the sky. She wore a simple white nightgown with a black robe, and her microbraids hung loose and cascaded down her shoulders. The wistful expression on her face was one she rarely let other people see.
What was she thinking about? A man could go mad trying to figure that out, though Fiyero found himself smiling in spite of himself. She was an enigma and yet wore her heart on her sleeve, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
As if she could sense him watching her, she looked down, and their eyes met. At first hers widened in surprise, but when he gave a little wave, she actually smiled back at him and returned the wave. Fiyero was a consummate flirt with everyone by design, and yet even a small positive gesture from her was enough to catch him off guard. His heartbeat sped up and his breath caught and his stomach did flips, all quite against his will.
Elphaba had changed since they had first met. Was it Galinda’s influence? Her own growing confidence? Or was it possible that she just might like him for him, that she might be warming up to him, that he hadn’t imagined her gazing at him out of the corner of his eye several times now since the lion cub incident.
“Elphie!” Galinda called, bursting out onto the balcony, and the moment was over. Elphaba’s attention turned completely to her exuberant roommate. Galinda was a one woman show and made Elphaba laugh as she pranced and twirled around the balcony in her pink nightgown, cracking joke after joke.
Fiyero found himself feeling oddly jealous…of his own girlfriend. Galinda got to be with Elphaba day and night, and Elphaba wasn't shy or discreet about being friends with her. The unlikely duo were inseparable, like two peas in a pod. He could only wish Elphaba would open up to him like that someday.
Still, it was nice to see them both laughing. Happy. Galinda was the type who always needed an audience, and Elphaba was happy to be that audience. Fiyero could hardly judge Galinda though because he was the exact same way. No wonder they were so drawn to Elphaba. That was probably why they got along so splendidly with each other.
Presently, Galinda noticed him and cheerfully waved, then blew him a kiss. He smiled and blew her a kiss back. But then his eyes wandered to Elphaba, and he caught her watching him again.
His smile softened into something sweeter and warmer, and she smiled back. That smile filled his whole body with a warmth he hadn't allowed himself to feel in years. Despite his best efforts, she had seen beneath his mask and didn't judge him for his pain and vulnerability. Maybe because she knew what it was like to have everyone else judge you, too.
If this kept up, he really would fall for her, and then nobody in all of Oz, not even the wizard himself, would be able to stop it.
Galinda glanced between the two of them, an expression Fiyero had never seen before from her flashing across her normally cheerful countenance. She grabbed Elphaba’s hand and pulled her inside the room with one last wave goodbye, and that was that. Fiyero was alone again with only the stars above for company.
Sighing, he raked a hand through his hair once more. This was all pointless anyway. Elphaba would never choose him. Even if she did fancy him, she wouldn't want to hurt Galinda, and he didn't want to hurt Galinda either. Galinda was her best friend and his girlfriend. They had a duty to be good to her.
He chuckled at himself. Listen to him, opining about duty. Elphaba’s goodness and his fondness for Galinda were rubbing off on him and making him a better person in spite of his best efforts to be a shallow dolt without a care in the world. For once, he was considering someone else besides himself (well, and Feldspar of course, but the horse was his best friend). It was a strange feeling, but not an entirely unwelcome one.
He nodded and straightened his lapels. Yes, he’d made up his mind. He wouldn’t act on his feelings for Elphaba. She and Galinda deserved better.
But as he glanced up at the balcony one more time, his heart had other ideas. He knew it was wrong, he knew he would be quite wicked to let this continue, but he still wished he could be that guy for Elphaba.
This was why he preferred not thinking. Thinking made everything so much more complicated. It was easier not to think. It was why he had gone so long without thinking. Life was so much less painful if he didn't think.
But as he finally fell asleep later that night, Elphaba’s face was the last thing on his mind, her smile the last image lingering in his brain.
Maybe thinking wasn't always such a bad thing, after all.

A/N: Thank you for reading! Wicked and Stephen Schwartz’ music have held such a special place in my heart for years, and I absolutely adored Wicked: Part 1. I'm really looking forward to Wicked: For Good, and in the meantime, I wanted to delve into the characters’ thoughts and feelings more, starting with Fiyero. I really enjoyed how the movie handled him, and Jonathan Bailey did such a fantastic job portraying him and giving him those hidden depths. That moment when Elphaba touches Fiyero’s face has had me in a chokehold for months now lol, and I wanted to explore the aftermath of that from his perspective since the movie did a beautiful job showing us Elphaba’s perspective already.
Edited 11/22/2025 to add: I've written another POV Fiyero Fiyeraba fic for Wicked: For Good! You can read it here.
But Fiyero barely has time to marvel at her before he’s being pulled upwards, the air rushing around him and before he knows it Elphaba is above him, straddling his hips, pressing his body into the mattress with her solid weight. The fire beside them spits green and teal, a confirmation of what he already knew, her magic being a strength in more ways than one. Elphaba’s eyes are dark with desire and something else – something almost playful - as they devour him in a way that makes his brain falter, mind crackling like static.
