hii 5, 7 & 14 for the fic rec ask game <3
5. Recommend a gen fic (no pairings).
dawn of changes by railroadman
Summary:
In the year Alan had spent in the Garricks’ guestroom, and that might as well have been a couple lifetimes ago, he’d learned nothing new about the happy couple save for the damning fact that Jay is the most atrocious liar he’s ever had the displeasure of encountering. Every emotion flickers across his face, his eyes, like dishonesty goes against his very being. Alan, secretive by nature and necessity, has never truly comprehended the man. It’s that exact quality that tells him all he needs to know now.
(Jay checks in on Alan after an unexpected change.)
This fic is part of a larger series that deals with Alan Scott's internalized homophobia (and some of the JSA's externalized homophobia) and holy shit it's so fucking poignant.
7. Recommend a fic that uses a trope you love.
Major Disasters (or Why You Really, Really, Really Shouldn’t Record a Sex Tape With an Intergalactic Supervillain) by Lolsnake9
Summary:
My fill for this dckinkmeme prompt: Any/Hal Accidental Sex Tape Leak - Hal and one of his lovers make a sex tape for fun ft Hal in Green Lantern uniform (if his lover is a hero or villain they’re also in costume). Unfortunately for them, it winds up leaked bc Hal’s luck is awful and somebody steals his phone
(despite the title, does not actually feature Major Disaster. I’m sorry.)

if u know me, u know i love misunderstandings + crack treated seriously, and this is one of those types of fics lol.
14. Recommend your favorite fic.
okay I'm going to recommend two--one of which is technically a series.
Trials of Personhood by Luvo
Series Summary:
Superman, Lois, lawyers: complex people and broken systems
James Gunn, eat ur fucking heart out because u could never write Superman as an immigrant allegory as well as Luvo does. Holy fucking shit guys, these fics are literally so good. Basically, the premise is that Superman gets an immigration lawyer who wants to sue the United States for Superman's rights as a citizen and as a person, and guys. Guys. When I tell u I fell in love with Anna the failgirl immigration lawyer who's Vietnamese and divorced and trans. I love her sooooo fucking much oh my god. Luvo raises so many great points about every situation and adds so much depth to every character, and just. AGH!!!!!
The other one is Lodestar by pastelplastic <3
Summary:
Hal Jordan came to terms with being voidmarked over a decade ago. The meaningless yellow symbols encircling the base of his finger had never been anything more than a source of curiosity for his classmates (who were all marked with ordinary names) and disappointment for his mother.
Hal was always the first to point out how nonsensical his own mark was, to laugh at his own poor luck and to joke about how at least he wasn’t going to get trapped in a boring marriage with a whiny wife and ugly kids like the rest of his peers. At first, he only said it to take a weapon out of the hands of his would-be bullies, but time and repetition got to him and eventually he sort of started to believe it.
Soulmate AU aside, this is basically a retelling of the Green Lantern lore where it has consistent lore from the beginning (all that Geoff Johns stuff but also a ton of great details from the 70s-90s), and it's soooo fucking good. It's funny, it's heart-wrenching, it can do it all. God. Have recommended it before, but can't recommend enough.
