slow burn or love at first sight // fake dating or secret dating // enemies to lovers or best friends to lovers (kind of? Good enemies to lovers > good friends to lovers > bad friends to lovers > bad enemies to lovers) // there’s only one bed or long-distance correspondence (epistolary my beloved!!!!) // hurt/comfort or amnesia // fantasy au or modern au (but honestly depends on the fandom and the depth of thought put into either one) // mutual pining or domestic bliss // smut or fluff // canon-compliant or fix-it // reincarnation or character death (but PRESUMED death over both of those any day of the week) // one-shot or multi-chapter (long one-shots my beloved, but I'm more into WIPs than I used to be) // kid fic or road trip fic // arranged marriage or accidental marriage (arranged/political marriage my BELOVED but I love all marriage tropes so I'll take either) // high-school romance or middle-age romance // time travel or isolated together (but if it were time loop my answer would swap in an instant) // neighbors or roommates // sci-fi au or magic au (mostly because they're rarer!) // body swap or gender bent (truly about equal for me, can't pick! Generally would prefer a shorter body swap and a longer gender bend) // angst or crack // apocalyptic or mundane (when an apocalypse fic is good I love it, but most times I want my guys to end up having a good time and that's pretty hard when there are zombies)
And I shall tagggg @sovinly, @samyazaz, @pluckyredhead, and @yuri-puppies this time!

A daily game that challenges our understanding of human cultures. Ten objects. 5,000 years of human history. Guess where and when each artif
An interesting game where you are presented with 10 artifacts from the MET. You have to place where the artifact is from and what time period it is from. Each artifact scores up to 10,000 points, and you lose points the further away your guess is and how far off in time you are. You can only play once a day. Thanks to @baebeylik for showing this to me.
Today I scored really well. Yesterday ... not so much.

man probie buck is so precious to me. this half-feral kid who's overly competent at some things (ready for calls in any weather, can identify every insect species native to LA and then some, drives the rig at the end of long shifts when everyone else is dead on their feet) and sometimes slinks into the loft with wide eyes asking if someone can explain what their health benefits are and what star trek is and if you can put your address on record if you technically haven't signed a lease but a guy you met at the bar when you first came to LA totally said that you could crash at his bros' place for as long as you want. this kid who looks at all of you like you're the coolest people ever and who deflects any question about himself into getting your life story somehow and gets his first ever credit card four months into his placement and insists on getting the entire station coffee on him, so proud of himself. who lives and breathes this job but also doesn't seem to have any concept of what it takes to actually stay here, who gets his shield with a kind of startled delight, like he never actually thought he'd make it.

Small Fandom Summer 2026!
For the fourth year in a row now, it's time for Small Fandom Summer! Join me for Small Fandom Summer! It's real easy to play:
Make a fanwork for something that has fewer than 1000 English-language works on AO3
Post it to AO3
And then you've done it! You've made a thing and you've diversified the fandom ecosystem! You're basically a hero.
Q: The fandom I want to create for has more than 1000 English-language works on AO3, but the specific pairing I want to write for has fewer than that. Does that count? A: Yes! Q: What if it has more than 1000 English-language works on AO3, but, like, just barely? A: Okay! Q: What if it actually has a lot more than 1000 English-language works on AO3, but it still feels small? A: Sure! Q: What if I don't want to post it to AO3? What if I don't even have an AO3 account? Can I post it somewhere else? A: Wherever! Q: What if-- A: Just do a thing, friend. Make a thing. Share the thing. This is not meant to be restrictive; this is meant to be inspirational. Create the fanworks you want to see in the world. Make a stranger happy by appealing to their niche interests. Bring joy.
And if you want to give yourself some silly little Steam-like achievement badges to commemorate your accomplishments, well, you're in luck! I've made a bunch of them right here! You can grab the ones that apply to your work and paste them wherever you like and feel good about what you've done. Here's a few of my favorites:
So you see? This is meant to be silly and fun.
There's nowhere to sign up. There's nothing to commit to. There's zero pressure. You just do it if you do it, and don't if you don't. But if you do want to play (yay!), tag your stuff with #small fandom summer so we can all swoop in and appreciate everyone else's efforts.
Here's to creativity!
Images are white text on a black background with a coloured icon taking up the leftmost third of the image. They are as follows:
Green icon of a magnifying class over a beetle. Who's That Boy? (wrote for a character that previously had no AO3 tag)
Orange icon of a tape measure. Size Matters (wrote the longest fic to date in the fandom)
Grey icon of two women holding hands. Lesbifriends (wrote the first F/F fic in the fandom)
Yellow icon of a smiling face surrounded by hearts. My Special Person (wrote something because you knew that one person who'd appreciate it)
Blue icon of an elephant and a mouse. Lorge and Smol (wrote a crossover between a fandom with more than 1000 works and a small fandom)
Grey icon of handcuffs. Testing the Waters (this had better not awake anything in you)
Yellow icon of two fish approaching a hook. Hooked! (wrote something for the first time and are already planning on writing something else for it)
Green icon of a bag with a leaf on it implying soil or plant food. A Brand-New Bag (wrote for a fandom so small you had to teach AO3 what it was)

stopppp everyone absolutely needs to see this
So my dad was the assistant music editor on Tarzan, and idk if it was Bring Your Kid to Work Day or something but one day he did just that so there I was, this incredibly small 1st grader, in an absolutely cavernous recording studio with a full orchestra and a giant screen playing the scene they were taping the score for, and my little brain couldn't handle the big music and the big movie happening all at once so I started crying and it was the first time music ever brought me to tears and it was too much to take in so we stepped out of the studio and ran directly into Phil Collins, who looked to me very much like my dad, and in my delicate emotional state I became immediately convinced that my dad had been copied and nobody had told me so I started crying harder, and Phil Collins said something that was probably meant to be calming but it was with a British accent so I thought there was a copy of my dad in every country and I absolutely lost it at the notion that other kids would get to have my dad, and my dad ended up having to carry me back to the car.
So.
Sorry for crying very loudly at you Phil Collins, your work on Tarzan was so moving it triggered my first emotional breakdown.
the only thing that could top that clip is that story
