OK!!! i read a post that was like “flaming buffalo is a scripted volunteer after your mission at okb zero, meaning she was part of xof’s elite soldiers like quiet was when she led the assassination attempt against big boss, which means they probably knew each other and maybe she joined diamond dogs to follow quiet” and i was so inspired
also: quiet nicknames her rifles after her old teams codenames because its the only thing she still has from her past life
Hey thank you so much! Sorry that this took me so much time. For now I decided to reply to only one of these promts, which was “You’re a monster.” and I’ll maybe add the other two in seperate posts later. The pairing I chose is Quiet and Flaming Buffalo from Metal Gear Solid, I hope that’s okay.
“You’rea monster.”
The wordshad left Flaming Buffalo’s mouth before she had thought them through.
Quiet, standingright in front of her, was drenched in blood completely, every piece of herskin red.
This wasthe first time Flaming Buffalo saw her face to face. The sniper had justmurdered a group of enemies in cold blood, without a hint of hesitation on herface. They had been dead so fast, not a single noise, a single scream had lefttheir lips. They were gone just like that, all quiet. And now the smell ofblood and death that filled the room was not to bear.
Buffalo wasa soldier through and through, she was used to fresh corpses. But she was alsohuman. And the woman in front of her, who didn’t even flinch at the blooddripping down her face, who didn’t even seem to care about the lifeless bodyparts at her feet… she was something else. Not a woman, but a freak. Justlike the soldiers back at mother base had said.
Still… you’re a monster hadn’t been the rightthing to say. Thank you for saving mylife would have been more appropriate or if it wasn’t for you I’d be dead, they were about to kill me. Butit was too late now, Buffalo couldn’t take it back.
Quiet hadonly taken a short glance at Flaming Buffalo. Not a single emotion showing onher face. And then she had vanished.
She wasprobably used to insults like that. She most likely didn’t have time to carefor words spoken by someone as unimportant as Flaming Buffalo. And still… shehad shown up to save her in reply to her distress call.
A fewmoments later Flaming Buffalo heard the helicopter approach.
She got upand limbed towards the landing zone, still thinking about the unkind words thathad slipped her mouth. Her heart was heavy and her bad conscience pained hernearly as much as the bullet stuck in her flesh.
Quiet waslying on her back, on her cot, in her cage. Breathing sunlight. Listening tosongs she would never be able to sing along to.
Singing wassomething she used to like… back then before she became quiet. Now she mustn’tsing, not these songs at least. She could hum along to the music, so that waswhat she did. The expression on her face was almost a smile, her eyes were closed.
Still she wasperfectly aware that someone was approaching.
Before sheopened her eyes she wondered if the man had shown up to cuss at her orlustfully stare at her body (if someone came here it usually was a mixture ofboth). It wasn’t Snake, this much she knew. She would recognize his stepseverywhere and the ones she was hearing were different, not as confident maybeand… lighter. Quiet batted her lashes open.
The personwho had come to a halt in the front of her cage was not a man, but the woman shehad rescued a couple of days before. Quiet had made the effort to save her (maybeout of some kind of female solidarity… maybe because she had liked hearing hervoice over the radio) only to find out that in her ignorance this soldier apparentlydidn’t differ from her male colleagues.
Quietstopped humming and turned her back towards her. She wouldn’t be able tosilence any upcoming mean words but she could at least pretend to ignore them, could stop looking at a face that seemed way too nice to belong to a soldier whohad rewarded kindness with an insult.
“Hi… uhm… Idon’t know if you remember me. I am… uh… they call me Flaming Buffalo,” thewoman started to speak, to Quiet’s surprise in a very hesitant, very gentletone, “I came to thank you and… to apologize.”
Quietraised an eyebrow. Now this was interesting. She didn’t want to turnaround again just yet and continued to show her a cold shoulder, waited ifthere was something else to come.
After amoment Quiet heard the ruffling of clothes, as if something was being taken outof a pocket.
“Listen,”Flaming Buffalo continued shyly, “I don’t know if you ah… eat… but… I wanted togive this to you to show how… sorry I am. For what I said.” Quiet sensedsomething small being dropped onto the floor inside her cage.
After a long moment of silence she heardthe woman speak again, very, very silently, as if to herself. “God I’m sostupid for coming here…”
As Quietwas about to turn around, Flaming Buffalo left, her steps so rushed, she wasalmost running.
Quiet gotup slowly to inspect the object the other woman had left her.
It was achocolate bar.
Flaming Buffalowas wandering around mother base, pretty aimlessly, as always when she didn’t haveanything better to do. The sound and smell of the sea eased her mind. Usually.
Lately therewas just too much on her mind. She still felt bad about Quiet and couldn’t stopthinking about her and how she had just ignored Buffalo when she had visitedher a few days ago. She didn’t know what to do about this situation, would haveliked to go see her again but felt stupid and unwanted.
She walkedpast a group of men who were laughing at something or someone. “Really?” one ofthem wheezed, “She is just so creepy.”
“What didyou expect from a freak?” another one replied.
FlamingBuffalo stopped. “What are you talking about?” she asked, a bad feeling growinginside her guts.
The groupstarted laughing again. “Quiet beat someone up over a piece of paper, shecompletely freaked out,” one of them stated.
“Someonefound the wrapping paper of a candy bar of some sorts in her… room…” anotherone of them continued, “And he wanted to throw it away because. Literal trash, you know? And the monster just totally freaked and started to beat him up.” Theylaughed again and there was something cruel about the noise. Flaming Buffalofelt her heart drop.
“A chocolatebar?” she heard herself whisper.
“Yes!” oneof the soldiers snorted, “God knows where she even got that from… these thingsare so fucking hard to get around here, right? And she’s not even human so why would shewant it? And it was empty… why the fuck would she hold on to an empty wrappingpaper?”
FlamingBuffalo didn’t hear the next wave of cruel laughter for her legs had started torun. She just left her colleagues behind and made her way. Towards where themusic came from. Towards Quiet.
This timeQuiet recognized Flaming Buffalo’s steps approaching. She got up. And greetedher with a smile.
