IN THE LIGHT : IN THE DARK VERSE (inspired by @hisflaws & @flammeus) 

she knows they don’t understand her references. she’s ninety percent sure that most white people haven’t read the mahabharata, or watched one of it’s many, many adaptations. that doesn’t stop her from calling murphy ‘gandhari’ or ‘gora’ though, every time she says something scathing or snarky or just plain mean.

she has always liked red tassinari a lot better to no one’s surprise. still, she believes that everyone is capable of goodness, greatness, even. and, yes, murphy mason is definitely included in that. even if she’s got a knife for a tongue.

whatever, at least pretzel’s cute.

it takes her a long while to explain where the name gandhari comes from. it was never meant as something malicious, though udyati can easily see how it could be interpreted as such.

that said, she’ll leave them to figure out the meaning of the word ‘gora’ on their own, thank you very much.

udyati doesn’t visit chicago a lot. when she drops by, it’s mostly to see max, and red, and to hide from her mom whenever she has a date. (also, she’s got dyscalculia, okay? what even is time, anyway, but a construct that people made up just to be plain annoying?!)

Shay repeats, bewildered.  It wouldn’t be of him to find himself at loss of words, but, well--the sudden question has definitely caught him off by surprise..

He stares at the stranger with furrowed brows, expecting her to leave by any moment, perhaps the lass has just mistaken him for another person, but she doesn’t seem to have any intention to leave without an answer, so he might as well give her one, no?

‘’ I--uh...’’ 

He mumbles, rubbing the back of his neck. What’s new? The curtains at Fort Arsenal, the mortars on the Morrigan, the newly opened tavern at Halifax, their victory over the last known assassin’s ship in the colonies--

After a few minutes debating of what he could say to her, Shay reached to his side to take his flintlock.
