“Why have you been hiding this from us?”

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Sheela hummed softly, drawing flowers on her forearm as Nikita rattled off suggestions.
"A few Adonis' flowers will look good there! Oh, and a red spider lily there. Add a peony here and a rose there. Yes, yes, it's coming together!"
Sheela giggled at her sister's excitement, grabbing another color of pen to do the Adonis' flowers. The flowers were simple but gorgeous and elegant. Nikita watched on with a shine in her eyes as Sheela's hand moved gracefully, guiding the pen and leaving bright trails of crimson red glistening on her dark skin. But even through the focus fogging her mind, she wondered why Nikita chose that flower. She knew Nikki knew the meaning of the flower. She blinked, clearing the thoughts from her head. Maybe Nikita just liked how they looked. Yes, that was probably it.
She took the bright red pen from Nikita, switching between the dark crimson and the bright rouge. The flowers slowly but surely bloomed into existence on her skin and Nikita smiled. She accepted the baby pink and started on the peony. As she finished and reached for the crimson again, Nikita batted her hand away. "Draw a fully bloomed rose on two buds."
She stared at him, confusion clear on her face. "Huh?"
"Can you draw it?"
"I... I mean, yes? I can. But why?"
"Just do it."
She shrugged and grabbed the peach and green colored pens, starting on the strange request. As she got back into the flow of drawing, her mind wandered. 'Why this specific? This a weird.'
Nikita pulled Sheela's arm towards here as soon as the girl finished, inspecting the drawings closely. "They look good."
"Really?"
"Yes."
She smiled at her sister, rolling up her sleeve a bit more to finished off the doodles with some leaves, but she forgot a crucial detail.
Nikita screamed, grabbing her arm again, but this time in horror rather than admiration. "WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR ARM?"
She stiffened. "Uh- uhm. I- I-"
"SPIT IT OUT!"
"I... I, uh, hm-"
"SHEELA, WHAT HAPPENED?!"
"I was attacked, okay!" She said as loudly as she could. "I was attacked!"
"Why did you hide this from us?!"
"I didn't want you all to worry..."
"We- We need to get this cleaned up. And then we're going to have a talk about keeping secrets."
Sheela scowled. This was the reason she didn't want to tell anyone about the horrendous claw marks marring the skin of her upper arm: They'd overreact.
But what was done was done. She followed her sister silently, a sneer on her face the entire time.

Headcanon time:
The flower is known as a "millenium petal", and is used for the newly-undead who still retain sentience to slow and eventually stop their decay. It rejuvenates any surrounding... meat, for lack of a better term, in trade for developing a subconscious fondness for the flower. The bond is harmless, with all it doing is attaching itself (painlessly, for the undead) to it's new host, and mildly encouraging them to plant more of it's kind.
Many undead will continue to wear them long after their decay is permanently stopped, and often keep gardens of them. One famous creation myth for them centers around an ancient red-headed newly-dead, who had become close friends with a god of fables and tongues in life.
The myth goes that after attempting exhausting all other resources, the god poured most of his immortality into his dear friend in a desperate bid to save her. He didn't manage to revive her properly, but he did manage to save her sentience and memory.
Millenium petals grew wherever her body had rotted, rejuvenating the flesh around it, and instantly stopping the rotting process, though it couldn't be reversed. Since then, the two have spent their eternity planting millenium petals in as many worlds as possible, allowing the newly-dead a chance at a second life-of-sorts.
