The Erdians didnt really know what to think about the two new squishy beings that Rocky had brought with him at first. They weren’t like anything they’ve ever seen, but Rocky and even Adrian had vouched for them so maybe they aren’t so bad. Then the couple had started to refer the humans as their pebbles.
Now that was a bit odd.

Dr. Citrus (Grace had said they looked like a lime) tapped their foot as they sat in a still empty room. Grace was due for a physical today, the gravity of their planet can be rough on the human body so monthly physicals were needed, yet he was 20 minutes late so far. They clicked sharply in irritation and went to go find Grace before hearing two pairs of footsteps heading thier way.
“Rocky, like I said I got lost in grading papers-”
“Grace be quiet, command. Rocky set up appointments to make sure Grace Simon healthy least Grace can do is go to appointment. Now Rocky gotta leave work to make sure Grace goes to appointment. Bad Grace. Bad bad bad.”
“Sorry bud.”
“Rocky swear Grace trying to make Rocky age faster.”
Dr. Citrus snorts softly and grabs their tablet and pulls out Grace’s tests from their last appointment. Good thing Rocky is there to keep his pebbles in check.

Marble chirped happily as he kicked the ball back to Oreo. The two pebbles loved playing soccer, Mr. Grace taught them the game. Plus it was easy to make the ball, and Mr. Grace said it was important to learn good sportsmanship.
Oreo had kicked the ball back to him before they both noticed Adrian walking past with Mr. Grace’s mate sleeping on their back on the other side of the bio dome. Marble was the first one to reach the wall before waving excitedly at Adrian.
“Hi Adrian! Why is Mr. Simon sleeping on you?”
“He tired himself out while chasing his last class up a tree.”
Oreo tilted his carapace slightly to the side, it’s like how his parent let him ride on their back after beach day.
“Is Mr. Simon your pebble?”
Adrian let out a few musical chirps.
“Of course.”

Movie nights with Mr. Grace and Mr. Simon were truly the best nights ever for the pebbles. They get to watch movies that Mr. Grace watched back on earth. Tonight it was Wall-E, less words and more visual for the pebbles still learning English.
They had finished the movie right as the parents waited outside of the classroom much to the pebble’s dismay. The only bad part about movie night, when it ends.
“Awww, do we have to go to bed? Mr. Grace and Mr. Simon don’t.”
“That’s cause we’re adults, we don’t have people telling us to go to b-”
“Grace Simon time for bed!”
All the pebbles watch as Rocky casually walks into the classroom much to Grace’s embarrassment. Simon on the other hand lets out a snort. They definitely do have people telling them to sleep, mostly cause they’ll stay up forever if given the chance.
“Grace Simon clean up then bed time.”
“Oh come on Rocky, we’re adults we can stay up.”
“No no no. Grace Simon get stupid when no sleep enough. Last time Simon no sleep enough he dropped plant then cried forever.”
“Didn’t have to call me out like that.”
“Bed now clean tomorrow statement.”
“Rocky I’m pretty sure we can stay up a bit longer.”
“Rocky will get Adrian.”
That got the two moving. Adrian was scary when necessary. They made sure all the pebbles got with their respective families before heading off to their house when Adrian was waiting in the living room.
“Baths and brush teeth. Then bed.”
After an hour both Simon and Grace were in the large nest that Adrian had made their second week on Erid. Only the softest pillows and blankets for their family. Adrian was seated on the edge of the nest as Rocky turns off the lights and joined them.
“Grace Simon sleep. Rocky Adrain watch pebbles.”
