Jamie wakes up as the sun shines through the window. Jamie sees Ghost asleep beside her. Jamie wonders why Ghost is sleeping on her bed, then recalls the nightmare, as well as how Ghost brought her to his quarters. She gets out of bed. Before leaving the room, Jamie eyes the hoodie on the desk chair. She smiles as she grabs it and puts it on before leaving the room.

Jamie walks into the mess hall. Immediately, Gaz and Soap see Jamie walking in, wearing Ghost’s hoodie. “Nice hoodie,” Gaz comments. Ghost walks in, seeing what Jamie is wearing. He groans, knowing the teasing Gaz and Soap are going to do. He walks toward the table. “Hey, Ghost. Did you have a pleasant night?” Soap smirks. “Listen, I just woke up,” Ghost says, trying to stay calm. “Aw, he doesn’t want to talk about it,” Gaz teases. Price remains quiet, watching the scene unfold. Ghost speaks before Jamie. “No! She had a nightmare! Only by sleeping in my bed could I get her to sleep!” Gaz and Soap’s smiles disappear. Now that Ghost didn’t give her the hoodie. Jamie took it. “I’m sorry,” Jamie says while taking the hoodie off. Ghost stops her. “It’s ok. You can have it.” Gaz and Soap’s smiles return as Ghost walks into the kitchen. Price gives them a look that says, drop the subject.

Task Force 141 knew about Jamie’s mental struggles and a little about her life back in her dimension. They dislike what she deals with or the fact that she won’t discuss it. The only reason they know is that Optimus Prime informed Price, who then informed everyone else. Jamie’s ill temper upon dimensional return is now expected.

Jamie’s unhappiness upon returning confirms their correctness, yet they remain displeased. They also see how tense she is, and that she’ll refuse to talk to them. “Leave her alone for now,” Price tells the others. Everyone but Ghost goes their separate ways. Ghost watches Jamie walk down the hall.

Jamie walks into her quarters and sits on the bed. A knock broke the silence. Jamie sighs and goes to answer the door. “Ghost?” Ghost walks into the room and closes the door. He sees the depression in her expression. “Close your eyes,” Ghost instructs. Jamie does as he says, not expecting him to hug her. The taller man lifts her to hug her better. Jamie wraps her legs around him. “You big softie,” Jamie teases. “Don’t you dare,” Ghost warns, but he’s not serious. Ghost feels Jamie relax in his hug. He sits on the bed and continues to hug Jamie. Not wanting to let go.

Not Your Fault

Jamie sits on the roof of the barracks building. The team returned from a mission an hour ago. Although no one died and injuries were minor, the mission failed. The target got away. Jamie feels responsible for the failed mission. Despite years of combat experience and multiple missions with Task Force 141, Jamie blames herself. Like she's not fit for Task Force 141. This unit and N.E.S.T. are different in ways beyond just their enemies. Jamie questions her skills as a soldier. Doubt about her success at N.E.S.T. clouds her mind. Lost in thought, Jamie doesn't know someone is approaching her. "I figured you'd be up here," Price says as he sits beside Jamie. "This spot's sunset is beautiful, however, your purpose here seems distinct." Jamie remains silent. Price sighs. "Jamie, it's not your fault the mission failed. You know this happens." "No, it's my fault." "No, it's not. You should know shit happens. You're not a rookie who's still learning. For fuck's sake, you found a way to travel dimensions at eight years old, you fought aliens, and you fought alongside alien robots in a war. The list goes on, but I'm proud of you. You're one hell of a person and soldier." The man pulls the smaller woman onto his lap and hugs her. They watch the sunset in silence. Price hopes Jamie understands what a noble soldier and friend she is.

Under The Stars Together

Day 5; @fluffyjuly: Stargazing - "Mind if I join you?" 

The beach day continues with more fun. As the sun sets, the team makes a fire and makes dinner. B nine, the team goes to sleep. The seven friends separate into three tents.

Jamie lays awake on her cot, unable to sleep. Jamie only turns on her phone display to see the time. Uncertain if the light from her phone will wake the others, after two hours, she gives up and leaves the tent.

Jamie sits on the beach close to the water. It’s a clear night. She sits in quiet contemplation of the lake. As someone approaches Jamie, the silence ends. She looks behind her and sees Ghost. The masked man holds a lantern as he walks closer to Jamie and sits beside her. “Mind if I join you?” he asks. Jamie nods. “Why can’t you sleep?” Jamie doesn’t answer the question. Ghost knows she has nights when she struggles to sleep, and he believes today’s events are causing her to have trouble sleeping. Ghost moves Jamie onto his lap and wraps his arms around her, hoping to get her to relax as the two look at the stars. After a while, Jamie has difficulty staying awake. “Don’t fight it,” Ghost whispers, rubbing Jamie’s arms. But Jamie fights the tiredness until she can’t. She falls asleep on Ghost’s lap. The man sighs, relieved that she’s asleep. Ghost carries her to the tent.

Ghost lays Jamie on her cot and covers her with the sheet she has on the cot. He then sits on his cot, close to Jamie’s. Ghost watches her for a few minutes before lying down and falling asleep.

A Bad Time For Insomnia

Everyone is in the kitchen of the safe house early in the morning. That is everyone but Jamie. “That’s it. I’ll drag her out of bed myself!” Ghost says. “I’ll go. I’ve been trying to get her ass out of bed for the past ten minutes,” Nikolai says. He walks out of the kitchen and goes up the stairs.

Nikolai walks into Jamie’s room and sits on the bed. “It’s time to get out of bed.” “Five more minutes.” “You said that five minutes ago. Ghost is about ready to yank you out of bed.” Jamie says nothing. Nikolai worries she’s unwell, but she doesn’t feel warm as he feels her forehead. “Did you stay up late?” “No.” “Another night of insomnia?” Jamie says nothing. She hates that everyone knows she deals with insomnia. It’s been an issue, but not a constant one. Ghost barges into the room. “Get up!” He yells. “Leave her alone.” Price walks into the room. Nikolai explains that he figured the issue is Jamie’s insomnia. “Not a good time. Sorry, but she can’t sleep any longer. “We’re leaving in an hour,” Price states, then departs with Ghost. Nikolai sighs. He moves Jamie onto his lap. She leans on him. “You should have sought help from us. We might have been able to help you fall asleep.” Nikolai carries the smaller woman downstairs to the kitchen.

He sets her on a chair at the table and makes her breakfast. “Make an extra-strong coffee,” Soap jokes. “Not funny!” Nikolai argues. Soap leaves the kitchen. Nikolai finishes making breakfast for Jamie. Price watches from the doorway. He worries whether Jamie’s insomnia is going to be an ongoing problem again. He hopes Jamie will wake up for today’s half of the mission and that she’ll sleep well tonight. Price sits at the table with Jamie as Nikolai finishes cooking. He puts a cup of coffee and a bowl of scrambled eggs in front of Jamie before sitting on the chair next to her. “Eat.” “Sleep.” “When we leave. I’ll carry you.” “Really?” Ghost comments from the doorway. “She’s a grown woman. Not our fault she stayed up all night.” “Enough, Ghost!” Price scolds. He, Gaz, and Soap walk into the kitchen. Jamie hates that she’s causing an argument. “She’s struggling with insomnia again. Not the best time, but it’s out of her control.” “She’s not fit for duty anymore,” Ghost argues. “Enough! I don’t want to hear another word!” “She needs time to wake up,” Nikolai argues. “She’ll be ready when we reach our location.” Ghost walks out of the kitchen, annoyed. “You know Ghost cares about you,” Nikolai assures Jamie as he puts a hand on her shoulder. “Now, eat.” Jamie eats the eggs, worried that Ghost doesn’t care about her.

Meanwhile, Ghost sits on the couch in the living room, worried about why Jamie is having insomnia now. He knows she was tired yesterday when the team got to the safe house. Ghost worries this will be a problem that’ll start affecting her in the field.

Instead of going to the beach, Task Force 141 opted for a pool party. Gaz and Soap inflate several floats. Ghost and Price still relax on lounge chairs. Farah sits on the edge of the pool, dipping her legs in the water, while Alex switches his prosthetic to one that’s waterproof. Nikolai is arguing with Jamie about going swimming. The Russian knows Jamie loves swimming, but today, she wanted to stay in her room since Price decided everyone has the day off. “Come on, you like swimming,” Nikolai argues. The others watch the argument. “No,” Jamie argues. Jamie tries to leave the room, but Nikolia grabs her arm. As Jamie tries to break free from his grip, she ends up falling into the water. “Great,” Price comments. “What? She’s in the water,” Nikolai says. Price pulls Jamie out of the water and looks at her right foot. Nikolai sees Jamie in pain. “She gets cramps in her right foot without footwear when submerged in water,” Price explains while massaging Jamie’s foot. “It’s unclear why this happens.” When Jamie’s foot relaxes, Price puts on her water shoes that she dropped trying to escape Nikolai. “Nik is right, though. I told you we would be taking today off. You should join the others in the pool.” Alex, Farah, Gaz, and Soap encourage Jamie to join them. Price looks at her, warning her he’ll order her to if he has to. Soap grabs Jamie and places her in an inner tube. “There, now you’re in the water.” Price goes back to the lounge chair, while Nikolai gets into the water. Gaz and Soap bring up getting Ghost and Price into the water, which Price warns them against. Soon, Price gets into the pool. Ghost doesn’t care that he’s the only one not in the pool. All he wants to do is relax, not play stupid pool games.

Ghost's Vigil

The rest of the night is relaxing, with dinner and a movie. Jamie fell asleep during the movie. The others hope she’ll sleep all night. Ghost carries her to bed.

Once Jamie is in bed, Ghost stands by the bed, uncertain if he should leave. Jamie’s insomnia means he might wake up in the night and find it hard to fall back asleep, as he knows. With the time being nine at night, Ghost sits at the desk, watching Jamie. He decides he’ll leave at two in the morning. He can handle getting four hours of sleep. Assuming he’ll fall asleep rather than lie in his bed, staring at the ceiling.

At midnight, Ghost is busy with his phone and hears Jamie’s whimpers. Ghost puts his phone on the desk and moves toward the bed. He sits on the bed and puts his hand on Jamie’s shoulder. “Jamie, wake up,” he says as he shakes her shoulder. “You’re okay; we’re safe.” Ghost continues to attempt to wake Jamie. It takes a few minutes before she wakes up. “You’re ok.” Ghost is careful as he moves Jamie onto his lap, hugging her. He rocks her back and forth, hoping to comfort her. Jamie takes a few minutes to calm down. She holds on to Ghost like a lifeline. “Do you want to come with me? Maybe sleeping with me will help.” Jamie nods. Her eyes still showed fear from the nightmare. Ghost knows he should have Jamie talk about her nightmare, but he’s concerned about getting her back to sleep. Ghost carries her to his room.

He lays Jamie in his bed and covers her with the thin blanket he uses for the summer. He lies on top of the blanket. “Don’t argue.” Ghost takes her hand, hoping to keep Jamie calm, and she’ll fall asleep. It takes Jamie a bit, but she’s asleep. Ghost sighs, relieved. He rests his head on the pillow and falls asleep, still holding Jamie’s hand, hoping it’ll help her as she sleeps.

The Prank Pt. 2

Gaz and Soap bide their time, awaiting the optimal moment to execute their plan as the afternoon progresses.

Jamie, Ghost, and Price remain unaware of the others’ plans during dinner. Price breaks the silence, talking about the plan for tomorrow. The others knew he’d be planning on leaving early. Hearing him say they’ll be out by 0500 wasn’t surprising.

Once Ghost and Jamie are alone in the kitchen, Gaz and Soap put their plan into motion. “Hey guys, you know there’s only four beds?” Gaz asks. “No, there’s enough for everyone,” Jamie argues. “Nope, just four. I dare you two to share a bed,” Soap adds. “You two are up to something,” Jamie says, and heads upstairs.

Jamie sees that the supposed fifth bedroom serves as storage. Everyone’s belongings are in the room, along with additional supplies. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” Ghost complains. Gaz and Soap go to their rooms, suppressing laughter. Ghost and Jamie are not pleased.
