These actions will randomly happen as he's hanging out on your desktop.
The "Yawn" behavior, which has two different yawn options depending on if he's standing or if he's sitting. Variables in the code detect this to choose between the options.
I've also finished all of the "upset" frames for when his mood stats get low. Code needs work to show it off in the program, but they are the default movement behaviors with an upset face as seen below.
So... I finished the new story with Millennial Tree Cookie for kingdom yesterday and man...
I'm going to ramble a bit but tldr; good story, kinda sad, I have some questions and now I have another Cookie I want to make into a Shimeji, desktop pet, along with Wind Archer. (Fire Spirit Cookie Shimeji needs some friends. Even thought he's still a W.I.P)
Spoilers below for my rambles of the current story.
I wasn't really sure what to expect with this story overall, (due to not being up to date on his story in OvenBreak) but it's kinda sad when you think about it that Millennial Tree is just stuck and can't leave or else the life in the area just dies. It does make sense why he keeps sending Wind Archer to do things though knowing this.
But the more I think about it there were times in the story he appeared in other places, like the Faerie and Cookie Kingdom. Which is making me question how big is his range that he's sealed to. Or was that like him being there spiritually but not physically. Or was this a limitation when he was younger and over the years his roots became so big in Earthbread that he is able to move around more.
There was a point with the flash back about Young Millennial Tree was dragging/lifting his roots, making a comment about them being heavy. Was that the problem that made everyone in the forest disappear? Maybe I missed something, but it's just something I have been wondering about.
But yeah those were the biggest things about him I have been pondering about.
Also unrelated to Millennial Tree, it was very nice to see the other Elemental Cookies in a story again. I'm not up to date on Sea Fairy and Moonlights story currently (as I haven't gone back to watch their story yet.) but it is interesting. Now Wind Archer and Fire Spirit on the other hand I am up to date on their Kingdom lore I thought their interactions were funny, especially when Wind Archer was pointing out Gingerbrave and Fire Spirit kept looking the wrong one.
Honestly very excited to see more story of them all, assuming they make more of an appearance when helping with the fight with Dark Enchantress Cookie. Since tbh, I'm not 100% sure if they are or not since they seem to be taking background helping hand approach with lending their powers to each of the Ancient Heroes with the group only running into Wind Archer and Millennial Tree at the Faerie Kingdom only to tell them they aren't joining.
Which for both of them makes sense with Millennial Tree not being able to leave (I guess, but then appeared in the Cookie Kingdom and the Faerie Kingdom, and you can't even argue that he's confined to just Crispa or Beast Yeast. But that's assuming he's physically there. I don't know...) And then Wind Archer, which I assume isn't joining since he wants/needs to be by Millennial Tree's side or only go if giving the order to. The other Elementals are kinda up in the air if they'll go or not.
So yeah, not sure on that but really do hope they do join the fight more than just lending their power to the Ancient Heroes.
Did a little bit of work on the Fire Spirit Cookie Shimeji. Some of the falling frames had errors in them with the layering, the staff went over his hair and not behind it. (still needs work on the landing part of the fall though.)
Also messed around with OBS, I want to try and make more video previews of my shimejis in action. ^^
Trying to work on more of the core default actions at the moment and then work on my extra stuff, along with cleaning up the code a bit.
Hopefully will have more stuff to show off soon. ^^
It's been awhile since I've posted an update on what I've been doing. Progress on shimejis have been going steady, the Hollow Knight Shimejis are still on hold for the moment as I'm working on other projects.
Main projects I'm working on is Cookie Run characters making my "digital pet like" shimeji with stats that change the shimeji's mood.
Manju Cookie and High Forkbearer I'm considering doing a revamp on to make the art look closer to the style in the Cooke Run games instead of my normal style I do for Shimejis. I did that, as you can see, with Fire Spirit Cookie and I'm happy with how it looks like the game style. ^^
Work on the code has been a slow process, mainly cleaning it up and figuring how I want some of the behaviors chain together. Since these Shimejis work like digital pets with mood stats there's a "hotspot" clickable area to bring up their stats.
Clicking the hotspot brings up the "menu" to choose to check the shimeji's mood or promote them. You have to gain soulstones to promote, just like in the game. (not as many as you need in game though. Just one soulstone for each promotion/Ascend, so a total of 10 to get the max.) if you have a soulstone, there will be a little green arrow that bounces above the promote button. The character will play their voice lines that happen when they get promoted as well.
Clicking the mood button will show the shimeji's current mood stats
The shimeji will create the screens to show the stats, play an emote based on the mood and have a little emote bounce next to them like the ones in game.
I'm planning on revamping the stat screens to match the Cookie Run style, such as the font and maybe some other things. I haven't fully decided just yet how it will look tbh, but it will look different.
Fire Spirit Cookie is mostly functional, with most of the bare minimum actions finished. Most of the stat related scripts aren't implemented yet, besides the one relating to energy, as I'm going though it one behavior at a time.
Sleep is going to be an a more complex behavior since it will change based on the energy stat. The W.I.P image you see above is if energy is full, he will relax instead of sleep.
Will for sure be my largest shimeji I've ever made once it's done. I'm also going to make a guide for how to take care of these shimejis along with how all the hotspots work, since it's a lot more involved than most.
And yeah, that's most of the things I have set up, most other things are still very early W.I.Ps that I hope I'll be able to share soon.
I hope that when these shimejis are finished others will enjoy them too. ^^
Work on the shimeji has been kinda slow due to being sick, but now that I'm getting better I'll, hopefully, have more updates to this week to show.
Currently I've been working on the "Care and Info Menu" behavior, this behavior will open up a menu of different things you can do to raise Fire Spirit Cookie's mood stats, promote him, or check how his stats are overall. I made this quick info graph to show what I mean a bit easier below but I'll explain it in detail next.
This behavior has grown a bit from what it was before, since I added in food and sleep into this behavior as well as the promote and mood check it had before.
The main thought process of placing them there is that if you notice Fire Spirit is upset you can just click the hotspot to bring up the menu to see what is wrong and then just feed/send him to sleep if needed right there. Another reason being the amount of food items I wanted to give him to give him more variation.
I am debating on if I should have a food and sleep behaviors in the normal shimeji command window along with the hotspot version or if that will be over doing it.
Since currently the command window is long....
Will be a bit smaller once I'm done with the "Test Variable" behaviors Since those won't be in the final downloadable version.
I was worried about it being to many hotspot clicks to get to what you want as well and that might be annoying, so I added in the random food button so if you don't want to pick something yourself you can hit that. Or you you know, you want him to decide what to eat.
Fire Spirit will be able to eat and sleep on his own. Those behaviors are just set up differently so that it skips over the menu showing up part and just goes directly to the action.
So far the shimeji is working well, but due to the high amount of images so far I do wonder if memory problems will start to pop up. To put into prospective, he has asymmetry and an upset mood set. So taking the idle, which is 6 frames, X4 it's 24 frames for the idle. And that's just one behavior, so I'm sure you can see the problem. ^^'
He does take up more memory than my other shimejis due to his frames but I personally haven't had that problem with with memory so far. So... we'll see how that goes I guess. ^^' It's just, if memory does become a problem that might mess up my plans since he's going to be able to interact with other shimejis, aka other Cookies, down the line.
But yeah, that's the end of my long winded update of the Fire Spirit Shimeji.
I'm curious, of the projects I currently have in the works which ones are people most excited for.
You can see them all here in more detail on this post.
Please post a tutorial on how to make one, pleaseeeeee
I assume you are talking about Shimejis.
Well making one isn't to hard if you are doing the basic default Shimeji. You can download the program from Kilkakon.com link here, https://kilkakon.com/shimeji/
From there you would enter the img folder and into the shimeji folder and replace the pngs with your own art. Size should be 128 by 128 pixels for your pngs, they can be bigger if you edit the xml image anchors but for starting out doing the default size is best.
Here's a link to the basics of shimeji and what image goes to what action. It's the post I used way back when I was starting out https://aki-appeared-and.tumblr.com/post/93795517328/i-find-most-shimeji-tutorials-focus-a-little-to
But yeah, that's the basics to it. Do note that Shimeji only works on Windows and needs Java 8 to work. (I assume you already have that, but good to mention anyway.) If you have a question about it that is more specific tutorial on something Shimeji related feel free to ask and I'll try and answer the best I can. ^^
The Fire Spirit Shimeji is finally getting some progress. It hasn't been forgotten, the project just been put on hold for a bit when I was doing some simpler shimejis. ^^'
So yeah, the Clone action has some work done today. It will have two versions, one with a soul stone and the other with an actual Fire Spirit Cookie coming out.
This is still a w.i.p, Fire Spirit will also be there on the side watching it open up. I just don't have his idle drawing looking away from the view yet.
Trying my best to stay focused on one shimeji project at a time. Fire Spirit Cookie has been long in the making and I would like to get him done soon. He still has a lot of actions to work on, but his main core actions for the default code is nearly done, just this, the clone, and the throwing windows action. Then after that is going to be all the extra stuff.
(Edit: not sure why the animation isn't showing up for me, but I added in a still frame so hopefully that one shows.)
