Maomao cut the plant and placed it in her wicker basket. She had been wandering through the Forbidden Palace gardens for almost an hour in search of medicinal herbs. Lately, Gyokuyo had been suffering from migraines and Maomao was doing everything she could to ease the pain.
She was used to collecting herbs to prepare medicines, it had nearly become part of her daily routine. What was unusual today, however, was Jinshi’s presence just a few steps behind her.
She rolled her eyes. They had crossed paths in the palace corridors, and upon seeing her basket on her back, he had guessed where she was headed and decided to follow her. He trailed her without a word, watching closely as she gathered herbs. She sighed. If he insisted on following her, he could at least help, she thought.
They moved deeper into the gardens, near a stream where she knew she would find the final plant. She snipped it carefully. Now she had all the ingredients needed to prepare Gyokuyo’s remedy and with all she’d gathered, she could make enough to last several days.
Her eyes widened at the sight of a rare mushroom growing nearby. It had not been there a few days ago. But under a tree by the water, the spot was ideal. She examined it closely. It did not appear to be toxic, but she could not be sure. She wouldd need to test it. She imagined all the experiments she could run on this mushroom and the remedies she might discover if results proved promising.
“You found something interesting ?” Jinshi asked suddenly.
Damn, Maomao thought. She had been so excited by her discovery, she had forgotten he was even there.
“Nothing exciting,” she replied coolly.
She had no desire to see him panic or hear him forbid her from using the mushroom. Oh well, she wouldd come back for it later.
“You sure ?”
“Yes. Let’s go. I have everything I need.”
She stood, hoping he would not see through her lie.
“What are you hiding ?” He insisted.
He stepped closer, and Maomao shifted to the side, irritated by his persistence.
“Jinshi-sama,” she said with a frown, “Gyokuyo-sama is waiting for her remedy.”
But he ignored her and continued moving forward. She rolled her eyes, just like she always did when he would not listen. Her gaze suddenly dropped to his feet. He had taken a different path to reach her, the one she had deliberately avoided because the stones near the water were damp and slippery. She wanted to warn him, but it was too late. His foot slid, and he tumbled into the river.
Fortunately, the water was not deep, and he quickly sat up. He looked both stunned and annoyed to have fallen so easily. Maomao tried not to laugh, but failed.
“This isn’t funny!” Jinshi exclaimed.
She wanted to tell him it absolutely was, but stayed silent.
“Help me out.”
Even though he could have managed just fine on his own, he offered her his hand like a child demanding full attention. And he was stubborn enough to wait until she helped him up. Deep down, she felt a twinge of guilt. If she had not hidden the mushroom, he would not be drenched. She took his hand and her heart skipped a beat as he suddenly pulled on her arm.
She fell in without a chance to catch herself. The shock made her shut her eyes. When she opened them, she was in the water, her face inches from Jinshi’s, her body pressed against his. He wrapped his arms around her waist before she could move away and held her tighter.
“That’s what you get for mocking me,” he murmured in her ear.
His voice was low, almost like a whisper. A shiver ran down her spine, and despite herself, she did not pull away. Her mind flashed to the time they had been trapped in a cave and she had discovered he was not a eunuch. He leaned in toward her lips, giving her time to pull away if she wanted to. She closed her eyes, trying not to tremble, feeling his breath on her skin.
This was not the first time they had ended up in a situation like this. But every time, something, or someone, interrupted them. And each time, her desire grew. The urge to know if he’d really go through with it, to discover what his lips felt like on hers. Never before had she been so ready to let him cross the line. She could feel her heart pounding in rhythm with his. His lips brushed against hers…
“Jinshi-sama !”
Maomao stood up abruptly. She saw a guard rushing toward them, panicked.
“Jinshi-sama ! I saw you fall ! I ran as fast as I could !”
He offered Jinshi his hand, which was promptly rejected. Jinshi stood, visibly irritated, and stormed back to the palace, followed by the concerned guard, who had no idea what had provoked his anger.
Maomao sighed. Another missed opportunity. She walked over to the mushroom, picked it carefully, wrapped it in a handkerchief to keep it separate from the other herbs, and placed it in her basket.
At least, she thought, she had not lost everything.

Day 30 - Hugs
Day 30 for @fluffyjuly
Part of Mistranslation,- Davina de-ages some Mikaelsons, follows"I swear it wasn't me."
----
Davina wrapped her arms around the small child, hyperaware of how fragile he was and the lack of safety but it had taken some convincing to get the children into the car, they hadn’t had time to attempt to get child seats.
Despite Finn's excitement for Freya they had been unsure of the car and against the idea of being separated, in the end they came to a compromise taking Marcel’s car to the compound with Finn sitting in the front while her and Vincent took the back each holding a tiny Mikaelson and Elijah sat between them.
Davina's mind still struggled to accept that; Elijah Mikaelson was cool and sure in his ways, cold sharp words and neutral expression, the boy next to her was friendly, sweet and eager to please, feeling open to the world from wide eyed awe to the way he had teared up when Vincent had told him to hand the baby over.
They had managed to explain why it was better for Vincent to hold Henrik during the short ride which left Davina with the last de-aged Mikaelson.
Kolr, who looked at her and the world with matching wide dark eyes as Elijah but far more willing to let curiosity win, something that was making it a little hard to control as they drove though the city and Kol tried to escape her arms to look out the window.
“Kolr” she called after a short jolt almost caused him to topple from her grip despite her best, he was slippery.
It was only a short drive across the city but children could be hurt so easily, she had already decided children this young while adorable were nerve racking that she was going to leave it to responsible adults in the future.
She wasn’t alone as she noted from the corner of her eye that Vincent had slipped an arm around Elijah’s shoulders to shift him closer to his side.
The boy hummed at her looked up at her giving her his full attention as if her words carried the greatest importance,
“Can I have a hug?” she asked, it was emotional manipulation perhaps but she had seen Elijah use the same words to calm Kol and prevent him from running off as they walked to the car, and if Kol was hugging her back then he wasn’t trying to escape the safety of her grasp.
Kol looked at her before his face broke into a beaming grin and he threw himself forward, attempting to wrap little arms around her.
"I'm good at hugs." he chirped up at her proudly.
Fluffy July Day 29: Falling Into Water
As turtles they were made for the water, made for so much more than the sewer sludge where they first learned how to swim, floundering through the humans’ tainted runoff.
Now that they were public, this clean, clear pool was theirs for the taking. Raph stalked right for the highest dive.
Toes clinging to the edge of the board, he swayed, picked out his brothers in the glittering expanse below. Wide smiles, wider eyes looking to him to impress, to make them proud with his sheer daring.
(That was all he ever wanted.)
Heart thrilling into his throat, he lunged.
Fluffy July Day 29 @fluffyjuly Pairing: Shizusumi x Hiiragi (Given)
-
"You'll fall in." Shizusumi warned. He watched as the carefree blond jumped up onto the edge of the large fountain anyway. The ledge was shiny and covered in water. A disaster waiting to happen.
Hiiragi held out both arms to balance himself and stepped slowly around the ledge. One foot in front of the other, he wore a cocky smirk upon his face when he shouted, "Relax, Shizu! You always say that! I've done this a thousand times, you know!"
Shizusumi did know. He also knew that the blond's lucky streak was surely about to run out. Hiiragi tempted fate and won far too many times for things to continue that way. It was only a matter of time.
"Whoa!"
SPLASH!
And there it was. The self proclaimed infallible blond was now soaked to the bone and getting splashed even more by a stone cherub's pot. He looked as pathetic as a wet cat.
"Shit. What the fu-"
Hiiragi stopped muttering to himself when a hand was shoved in his face. He looked up to see Shizusumi's same stoic expression. The way the sun shone behind him seemed to give him an ethereal glow. His own personal glowering angel. After a brief pause he accepted the hand and was pulled to his feet none too gently.
"Ow!" Hiiragi yelped when pain shot through his leg.
He stumbled forward and into what felt like a wall. Except it wasn't. It was his best friend's chest. Very broad. Very strong. The most comforting spot in the world. Hiiragi looked up and their eyes met. Blush immediately exploded in his cheeks.
He stuttered a bunch of nonsense and pulled away from the other boy. He was fine. Totally great. Only, the moment he put weight on his foot he felt that same sharp pain once again. He yelped in surprise and fell right back into Shizusumi's arms. This time he admitted defeat as the guy pulled him out of the fountain.
Hiiragi kept his head bowed when he muttered, "I think my ankle's sprained."
The soft sigh Shizusumi let out was something between a grunt of acknowledgement and him voicing his exasperation. Of course this happened. Now Hiiragi was doing his best not to show he was in pain. All the while he clearly had tears in his eyes. He was going to cry any second.
Shizusumi turned and shut his eyes for a moment. To anyone watching him, he likely seemed disinterested in the situation. In reality, he needed to focus on anything else but just how badly he wanted to kiss the other boy when he looked so utterly pathetic. After a moment to regain his composure he opened his eyes and held out one arm to steady the blond.
Once he was sure Hiiragi would stay where he was for a second he turned around and crouched. Shizusumi turned to look at the blond over his shoulder. His tone was as flat as the expression on his face when he said, "Get on."
"B-but you'll get soaked!" Hiiragi yelped. He wobbled a bit, clearly unsteady on his one good foot.
"Doesn't matter." Shizusumi replied. And he meant it, of course. Hiiragi's well-being was more important that a little discomfort on his end.Obviously. His eyebrows raised as if to say "let's go".
Reluctantly, Hiiragi did as he was instructed. Shizusumi stood and adjusted his grip on him. After that they were off. Hiiragi buried his face in the other boy's back. This was both embarrassing and weirdly romantic. His stomach was in knots and he didn't even know why at this point... but he couldn't say he hated the situation.
Fluffy July Day 29 - Falling into water

Kris glares at Laurent when his head pops out of the water. "Why in the hells did you push me!?"
His husband crosses his arms with a frown. "You were being frustrating."
Kris's eyes narrow as he treads the water. "What if I had drowned!?"
"You can breathe underwater. You're fine."
"Ugh! You are the worst." Kris holds his arm out. "Help me out, at least."
Laurent sighs and squats down, grabbing Kris's hand. However, when Kris tries to pull him in, Laurent doesn't move, and he huffs. "Did you think I'd fall for that?"
Kris pouts. "You usually do."

« Tu as trouvé quelque chose d’intéressant ? Demanda soudain Jinshi. »
Mince, pensa Maomao.
-Oui. Allons-y. J’ai tout ce qui me faut. »

Day 29 - “Please don’t laugh”
Day 29 for @fluffyjuly, one to go after this
Amendments, slight crossover with NCIS as Elijah's job/hobby is MI6 officer Elston Harkin.
---
Elijah shrugged off his jacket as he door to door to his london flat, the one he brought just for work purposes and so should have been empty.
It wasn't.
Lucien sat on the couch in the centre of his living room, feet on his coffee table.
“ What are you doing here?” he asked heading to the kitchen to put the kettle on.
“Taking a break from Tristan and Aurora” Lucien answered taking his feet off the table and twisting “you got a nice little place here, if a bit plain.”
“ It's peaceful.” he argued, it was also simple and cosy but he knew if he mentioned them, his origin as a farmer would give Lucien a road of teasing to go down.
“Your superior officer stopped by.” Lucien told him, a grin spreading across his face as Elijah froze “Charming man, looked familiar though.”
Elijah hissed out the breath he had been holding, because of course Lucien would recognise him, it would have been hard to forget the face of the I've who hunted them for centuries on and off and ended it by sealing them in a crypt.
He didn't know how his father had a Doppelganger, but the human was kind, warm, friendly, good at his job and caring. When the man had made himself Elijah's mentor, he couldn't help but fall for the warmth he has longed for all his childhood.
“Please don’t laugh.” he sighed, honestly tired, it was the main draw of his job, after a thousand years, supernatural strength and speed not much was a challenge, his missions managed to be.
It did mean however currently Elijah was too exhausted to take Lucien's teasing, especially about this.
Lucien frowned for a moment before vanishing from Elijah's sight, it was the exhaustion that slowed him enough to be taken by surprise when Lucien appeared behind him and tripped him backwards to catch him.
Elijah blinked confused as to why Lucien had tripped him into a bridal carry.
“You're tired, I'm putting you to sleep,” Lucien explained, smirking. ‘besides it will annoy Tristan to learn I've tested your bed before him.”
