'End of a story'
My zine piece for @engraverszine!!!
I...I uploaded it to twitter and it took me awhile to realize I didn't upload it to tumblr... But here it is!!! The lore is completely made up by yours truly so don't take it too seriously!
One of my wackiest rezero theory is that flugel is not subaru but subaru's master/caretaker. This isn't fact checked at all and full of plot holes, but I just think this is neat
Subaru is first transported around more than 400 years ago but he was saved by flugel and becomes his disciple. They hit it off because flugel has similar personality with subaru (flugel is the nickname subaru gave him because he asks subaru to call him by another name, flugel took a liking to that name). Subaru told flugel about his earth's knowledge (which later flugel told hoshin about).
Then subaru rescued satella, met patrasche and probably farsale, echidna, volcanica, the witches, and for a while it's just the adventure of those people. Also daphne gifted scorpion shaula to flugel and subaru
But not long after subaru and satella confessed their loves to each other, subaru somehow died. Also satella destroyed half of the world in grief, taking in envy's witch factor
So flugel (the rightful holder of envy) and satella (who was now stuck with a split personality) wanted subaru back, but not even flugel's authority of envy can bring him back. But somehow they know that subaru's soul is stuck in od laguna because he's something outside of it.
So, together with echidna, farsale, hoshin, and reid they made something to leave behind for subaru, the pleiades watchtower. Also, the books of the dead are their way to find subaru's soul. Reid, shaula, and volcanica agrees to keep guarding the tower until subaru arrives. Echidna was the one to make it as a form of trials.
The witches understand satella's love so they're fine with being swallowed by her. But they hate witch of envy persona because that personality was the one to remind satella of her grief so she couldn't be happy without subaru.
Btw beatrice and roswaal only had the vaguest idea about what echidna was planning. Even if echidna being secretive with them, they didn't mind because they trust her. Puck and al are some of echidna's experimentation to help satella move on from her grief/satiates her love? In the end, satella has to be sealed because she wanted to meet subaru again.
So flugel took in the witch factors, petelgeuse is his contracted spirit. The reason why it's petelgeuse and not betelgeuse is because he misheard subaru. The witches' name could be given to them by flugel or subaru or something like that.
So basically everyone involved in the plot 400 years ago know that subaru would be spat out by od laguna in the state he arrived in before. And he'd be back after every remnant of natsuki subaru is gone in that world (apparently plastic took 20-500 years to decompose lol). Pandora totally know about this plan, and she was an ally who had gone too far and becomes an enemy instead.
I dunno, I just love the idea that subaru is so loved by every (unhinged) people that he meets that they won't even let him go even if he died.
Just finished chapter 1 of LN 8, and there was an illustration that peaked my interest that I want to yap about.
I thought it was interesting to have a necklace with a peculiar symbol like that. Then I realized a second later I had seen this symbol before multiple times.
Sooo… this here clearly seems to be Flugel’s symbol with how it’s stamped onto the box Geuse was given that contained the Sloth Witch Factor by this dude who is basically confirmed to be the Sage from 400 years ago.
Now, in Arc 5 Sirius claims that the Wrath she has was given to her by “him” - clearly Petelgeuse - as she rants to Emilia in the square.
With how there’s this clear Flugel-stamped item on Sirius, is it potentially possible that the Witch Factor of Wrath is actually contained inside that necklace (which looks suspiciously like a collar I’ll get back to this in a sec) Sirius is wearing around her neck which could plausibly be that Wrath Petelgeuse gave to her in a literal fashion?
Circling back around to the collar bit, having something with connotations to slavery is very interesting. This could be essentially a jab at Sirius being a slave to her ideology, and whilst I do think this is a valid take, I think it’s not the main takeaway here despite being a component.
I think it’s Sirius being a Slave to her feelings of Wrath itself. Wrath is commonly denoted as something that animates people with life.
Since there’s good odds Sirius = Fortuna, the same Fortuna who is dead… wouldn’t it fit rather thematically that Sirius is only alive due to being animated by her Wrath which is the very thing she is a slave to? The collar that in her character design is prominently showcasing her slavery, and is potentially the source of her power & thus Sin?
thoughts on the theory that Subaru is flugel basically that when Subaru was first isekaied he was transported 400 years ago and that he got old and died and a spell made it so he would be brought back as his young self years into the future ( while only having the memories that he had before he got isekaied ( to explain subaru's comments about loving Satella)
Absolutely despise it. Subaru == Flugel would be the single most obvious and most boring answer to the questions raised by the series so far, and it doesn’t help that Subaru and Flugel do not actually seem to act anything alike when it comes to their core personality traits, even if they do resemble each other on a superficial level. This is the same reason I don’t like the Subaru == Aldebaran theory: it is the single simplest and most obvious answer that also does not make sense if you look at their actual personalities while also actively making both characters less interesting. If that’s where the story is going then Tappei is gonna have to Absolutely Nail It in order to get me on board — though I really do believe that it’s a red herring.
I do think that Aldebaran == Flugel, however, because they really do act similar. Whether that be because he’s legit just Flugel or some sort of clone or w/e.

Concerning the Witch Cult and the Seal in Elior Forest;
So I watched through the episodes where Pandora and Regulus show up in Elior Forest, and Emilia is frozen, and had some wonders
First, Petelguese, when he takes the Witch Factor, apologizes to "Flugel-sama". But why Flugel? Remember, Flugel wasn't actually considered anyone great, and was only known because he planted a big tree and carved "Flugel was here" on it
Then there's also the Seal that the elves protect. Fortuna says that if the Seal is unlocked, the world will definitely end this time. But, at this time, who actually can destroy the world? Even looking at the Seal's colors and decorations, they befit Satella, who TRIED to destroy the world and was partially successful.
The world will definitely end this time. There was a past attempt, and this was only ever done by Satella.
So I'm assuming the Seal is containing Satella. The key only appears to the one qualified to open it—and that's Emilia. The same identical half-elf that the Witch Cult believes is the perfect vessel for Satella; the vessel can open the door, and has the key, no one else. Methinks if Emilia opened the door, she might be possessed or become a martyr
Yeah, it's said that Satella was sealed beyond the Great Waterfall. BUT BUT BUT, REMEMBER, they consider beyond the Great Waterfall as THE SAME AS A PARALLEL WORLD. Yin magic can easily sever reality and space, and create a pocket dimension or open to a new reality, just by upgrading Shamak.
For example, remember Beatrice's Door Crossing? The Seal could easily just be the doorway to a pocket dimension like Shamak, and it would still be considered beyond the Great Waterfall.
What the Elves are guarding is the tomb of Satella. That's why the Witch Cult's docile faction helps out the Elves; the Witch Cult reveres Satella. The Elves hid Emilia from the Cult on purpose, but Petelguese found her anyway; and Petelguese sacrificed himself in an attempt to keep the Witch of Vainglory (Pandora) and the Archbishop of Greed (Regulus) away from Emilia. The docile faction definitely had a different goal from the radical faction, the latter which always chases Satella's vestiges.
Petelguese definitely knows something more about Flugel than "Yeah, he made a tree" because to the public knowledge of the Re:Zero world, Flugel is only a guy that grew a tree that happened to live long. It's only realized that Flugel is who the Sage Shaula actually refers to, by Subaru's party in the Pleiaides Watchtower; a place even the Sword Saint couldn't reach. As part of the Witch Cult, Petelguese probably knew a lot of the truth of Flugel and Satella, if he revered Flugel, knew the implications of an incompatible Witch Factor, and knew of the Seal.
Petelguese knows what happens if you take in an incompatible Witch Factor: some sort of insanity. Even Regulus warns him about knowing the price to pay, yet Petelguese still took the Witch Factor. Petelguese knows about Flugel, so he probably knows about the Witch of Envy VS Satella; whenever he refers to the Witch of Envy, he mainly says Satella. There might be parts where he says Witch of Envy, but he mainly says only Witch or Satella. Petelguese taking the incompatible Factor his own choice kind of parallels Satella's own incompability, that it brings the question: was Satella also forced to make a similar decision?
The Elves guard the Seal of the Witch of Envy. The Seal is technically beyond the Great Waterfall. Petelguese probably knew the truth, and Emilia's oddly the only person that can access the Seal's key; that's what I think.
Flügel / A Kaleidoscope of Life ~ Moon 2023
4.5-year awaited Grand Theater return on September 22 (before things) ft. my eyes dead from the unseasonable heat and yet another failed attempt to get my FLYING SAPA REFUND FROM 2020 THAT THEY STILL OWE ME.
This, unexpectedly, turned out to be the hands-down Takarazuka highlight of Tadaima ’23, and that’s… despite a play of extremely questionable content. Tsukigumi—Mugen Musou / Krung Thep—had the honor of being my last live Takarazuka before the shit hit the fan globally, and the troupe is such different vibes I felt like I stepped through a portal (not that Yukigumi isn’t, dear lord, but small theaters are always a little weird vibe-wise). I had a feeling this would be my first and last live top Tsukishiro Kanato, and she did indeed announce taidan days later. We have no shortage of 95th top stars, but, since I was a hardcore Yukigumi fan ten years ago, Reiko is the only one I’ve been closely following since her shinko days. She’s gotten so good, and every time I’ve watched her since the Romance Gekijou stream, I’ve seen in her movements and expressions that she's absolutely watched Komu on repeat in her moments of doubt. It makes my heart sing.
