TIPS FOR FLYING IN THE US (some tips will be applicable to other places but I'm pretty sure our security is weird? Idk)
What I bring on a plane is just a suitcase and a backpack. Suitcase goes in the overhead bins, backpack is stowed under the seat in front of me.
ALL LITHIUM ION BATTERIES GO IN THE BACKPACK. Lithium ion batteries are going to be in your phone, computer, etc. That's because if they go in a checked bag (therefore under the plane) they could spontaneously combust, and nobody wants that. Even if you plan on putting your suitcase in the compartments, keep Lithium ion batteries in your backpack, since most of the time they'll be in an electronic device that you'll need to take out of your bag to go through security.
If you have liquids (this is where the backpack comes in clutch) put them in a plastic ziploc and in the water bottle holder on the side of your backpack, ESPECIALLY put stuff in there if you're not sure if it's a liquid or not. The people will be able to see what's setting off the machine (if anything sets it off) and it's less hassle and one less thing to take out of your backpack in security.
Wear slip-ons or easily removable shoes, and dress comfy. The shoes will be easier to get on and off in security, and just dress comfy in general. You're traveling. No need to be fancy.
Personally, I get airsick, and I can't recommend the power of drugs more. I take a dramamine (you can get it in drug stores over-the-counter) right after the plane takes off, and then sleep through the flight. It's great, 10/10.
Some advice I've always been given is to keep essentials in the backpack. Clothes aren't essentials, those go in the suitcase. Even if you lose your suitcase, changing into new clothes isn't something that NEEDS to happen or the world will end. Most airports have places you can buy clothes. Either way, essentials are going to be prescription medication, retainer, glasses -- stuff that's hard to replace.
I think that's it :) just btw I'm a credible source because I've flown five times these last six months, and I'm getting on a plane in five hours.
