Cas spends his first winter in the Commonwealth - December through the beginning of March - at Cabot House. Still raw and finding it difficult to come to terms with his situation, he finds his own kind of sanctuary with the Cabots, a handful of people who understand how it feels to be misplaced in time. Cas enjoys the many amenities that remind him of home - cleans sheets, showers, salad forks, and an ample stock of liquor. But ultimately these only serve to delay his adjustment to reality, so that later, even months out of the vault, he is woefully unprepared for actual life in the Commonwealth.

Still, for now, he’s enjoying his cozy room, with tea and a fireplace and many, many books.
