Since I will be quarantining myslef for the next 2 weeks I thought I would start a new project.

I had a friend of mine send me the knitting pattern for the Mrs. Weasley Christmas sweater.

Because of the quarantine I thought I would share my progress on Tumblr. And kinda also do a step by step of what I did so anyone who wants to can also follow along.

So the first thing I did was order wool. Since we all can't go outside rogt now I ordered online. And I specifically ordered it locally.

I found a local yarn store which I have gotten wool from in the past when I aksed my grandma to make me a some socks. Since they are closed for the quarantine and only doing by phone orders I called and asked for help picking a wool. They were so helpful. They helped understand the pattern and what wool and needles I would need. They also helped me out with the colour matching. They also told me that I could call anytime if I needed help understanding the instructions or anything. They all knit at like a pro level and love helping people with their projects. They then offered to drop the wool off at my doorstep for me since the owner wanted to save local people the cost and delay from using the mail. (She literally goes to the store picks up all the wool to ship out, packs them, sends some in the mail, and then drives and drops them off on the porches of local people.)

The wool size you will need can be Aran or Worsted weight. I went with worsted since it is slightly thinner and I wanted a less bulky sweater.

So for a size large sweater you will need

- 5.5 mm straight needles

- 4.5 mm straight needles

- 4.5 mm size 16 inch long circular needles

- For the main colour you will need 10 balls of wool and only one ball of wool for the contrast colour for the letter. Your wool balls need to be at least 140 yd. each. Essentially you need 1400 yd. of maroon, and 140 yd. of gold. Try and make sure the contrast colour and main colour are the same size (aran or worsted).

I also bought counters. (These are little rings that help you keep count so you know how many stiches you have.)

I also recommend rolling your wool into balls before starting. Usually more natural fiber wools don't come pre-rolled. A lot of local yarn stores will roll it for you on their little spinner, but if you forgot to ask don't worry, just do it by hand like me.

First step, cast on 88 stiches to your smaller needles (4.5 mm straight). If you can cast on stiches using the longtail cast on. How to do this is simple to figure out. Follow along to a youtube tutorial. I used this on https:/youtu.be/SXA3gBNiSiM

Since you need 88 stiches you can put a counter ring on the needle every 20 stiches. The last section will just be 8 stiches. (Photos above doesn't have counters. I didn't add them till later which was a mistake).

Congrats you now have your first row!

I followed a Bob Ross tutorial on a Doll Divine doll maker (X-Girl specifically).  This man is so talented. My house did end up a lot smaller, but as Bobby says, it’s my own little world :)  I think it ended up being kinda a happy accident.
