My previous googling had only given me horrible neologisms like auncle and fukcing pibling, but with ommer as a keyword I was able to find a whole lot more stuff like an entire nonbinary wiki.

For anyone else having difficulties finding gender-neutral terms, this page is a hub for gender-neutral terminology is a variety of languages. Here is the English language one in particular.

I actually kinda love the mouth-feel of “ommer” (I can’t seem to find any sort of etymology for it, so I think it might have just been created whole-cloth rather than as a derivation from other words), and they also list some really cute ones like “nibi.”

I've been binding for the past 6-7 years and finally decided that a permanent solution would be good for me. You’re more likely to be approved for surgery if you’re dysphoric (which is transphobic bullshit because cosmetic plastic surgery is a thing), but transitioning could also bring you euphoria (which I feel like I do bring up a lot...). Maybe you don’t define your own experiences as dysphoria. Or maybe you’re not triggered by your body but want it to look a certain way to reflect how you feel in order to avoid misgendering or to make social transition easier. Or anything else.

If you don’t have the experience, then you can’t give OP what they’re looking for. But that doesn’t mean someone else out there might not be able to help them.

Like I want to socially transition eventually, not because of any dysphoria because I don’t even mind my name or the pronouns used for me now but because it would bring me euphoria to get to truly be myself. I’m not uncomfortable. I’m just not living as me. And, tbh, there are surgeries out there I have thought about for other reasons that aren’t specifically gender related, but they could play into gender issues/how I’m read. Just like... don’t forget there are other experiences than your own out there. =\

Ball anon - I got the haircut and it looks awesome!! I also looked at my uni's document on trans students as well & I'm free to use whichever on campus bathrooms I want & they also provide extensions/interruption of studies for transitioning!!!

share the weirdest encounter you’ve had with a stranger on the street.

I’m going to discount all the times elderly people approach me to share their life stories or tell me about their retirement plans to buy a boat (I have one of those faces. I am non-threatening) because those are relatively normal.

Winner:

So I think I’m gonna go with the guy in the full camel costume outside the university’s science library that I waited with until it opened. It was not Halloween, and there was no event going on. It was also 6:30 in the morning and there was no reason for him to have the head on. I didn’t ask, he didn’t share, we just stood in silence until he went to sit in a study room to read, still wearing the head.

Runner-ups:

The old man who asked me to help him find canned beans, instead of saying thank you (to me, the NOT employee whom he still approached for help), told me that social media is why my generation doesn’t make things like his mother’s (terrible) recipe for 3 bean salad anymore and then walked away.

The horrible brim-stone preacher who used to yell at us outside Turlington that we were “b-b-b-b-b-bad to the bone” and that we needed Jesus.

The small child who thought I was an elf because I am v short and had blue hair at the time. But that was adorable.

The time I got kinda stalked and grabbed by one of the Country Bears at Disney and, in self-defense mode, ended up throwing him(?) to the ground.

However

If we expand this to strangers that I have not physically encountered, then the winner would probably have to be the person who passes by a couple times a week on the road outside my window around midnight honking one of those little clown horns. I have never gone outside or looked to see who they are because I am convinced this is a fae trap.

About the words vs concepts this, it's crazy to me that people DON'T think in full sentences. Like, when Im focusing on something or even people talking I have to mentally repeat/sync those sentences in my own thought-brain like at the same time so that they'll actually process. And like all the posts about daydreaming and then being 'oh no, take it from the top' I LITERALLY think those words to myself. I do think in concepts, but there's always a layer of full sentence commentary on top.

This is so baffling to me. Like, I don’t doubt you at all, but I read this and my brain just throws up the “that sounds fake, but okay” meme. If I’m reading dialogue of a character whose voice it sounds like sometimes I’ll hear them speaking it, but that doesn’t happen often (and the dialogue has to be well-written and in-character enough to match their cadences or else my brain just says nope). Or if I remember something with words like music or something someone said, it’s not just words appearing in my brain it’s all tied up in the scene where I heard them so like I’m also hearing the background noise or seeing  the place they were standing when they said it or the feeling of the room while I was reading them on a computer screen. It’s never just like, HERE ARE WORDS.

It’s most often just a jumble of sound, color, emotion, and concept with occasional words floating to the top which makes it both easier and harder to write like. It’s harder because everything has to be translated into words, but descriptions are sometimes easier because of the spiderweb of associations that mean sometimes I’ll pull out something three levels of association away but that still works in a simile or whatever. But like, that takes conscious effort to make the words go because my thoughts are just floaty chemical soup most of the time.

Like, I gotta ask. Doesn’t it get annoying to have all those words all the time? Is there time lag, like the difference between reading a story and having it read to you aloud, or is it instantaneous?

Thank you, darling. I’m okay, I was just in a good old-fashioned spiral that I couldn’t seem to talk myself out of. It’s unfortunately too hot in sunny Florida for cocoa at the moment, but I did get a cat, a nice bed,

and a multi-century oak (well, I’d put it more around 100-150 years, but close enough) not that far from my door (I live in one of the oldest parts of the city, which means I have ancient plumbing and shitty insulation, but lots of beautiful old trees).

It’s hard to see, but both those parts are actually the same tree, it just forks out around 15 feet above the ground. It’s thick enough that it would take at least 4 of me holding hands to encircle the trunk. It’s my favorite tree.

I also got a very confused look from a guy walking past because i was crouched and contorted to take this picture, but I just smiled and waved awkwardly and I think he accepted that everyone is just a little weird right now, so he smiled and waved back from his acceptable social distance as he continued his power walk.
