Name: Kelli aka foofightersfic
Location/Time Zone: Cleveland, Ohio USA (Eastern Time)
Favorite real-life book: The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. Gets me caught up in the feels.
Favorite film: My Neighbor Totoro
Describe your Foo Fighters dream date: Hmm, okay, so I'm on a date with Nate...we're going to see his favorite band, members of which he's probably already met and hung out with..lol. Um, it's a nice summer night and the wind is blowing perfectly and stuff. All cliche and all that..and I don't know, things are just awesome and he's a gentleman throughout the night, treating me kind of like a princess hopefully because that would just be great, and we jam a lot since I play the guitar and the night will end with skinny dipping on some beach with possibly the rest of the band, then possibly a bit of fooling around later..and something that has to do with strawberries. Yum.
What era of Foo's is your favorite?: Poop, this is hard. I have to go with TINLTL because DAMN. Everyone seems happy, Dave's hair is perfect and becomes even more perfect as time goes on, Tay Tay's a happy little tan boy that I'd just love to sleep with. And Nate, well, he's Nate. I wanna get with him all the time. He's beautiful.
Which Foo Fighters song gives you the most feels? (Please include a gif to fully express said feels): Hmm, can I have more than one? Yes? Okay. Come Alive If Ever and... February Stars ACTUALLY Dear Lover gives me a crap load of feels.

Chapter 13 - This is a Big Deal
Two months had passed since Taylor and Genevieve’s sweaty reunion in her double bed and Gen was finally dropping her doomsday predictions and, in fact, getting quite comfortable with dating her scruffy Foo Fighter. A constant joker, Taylor was an endless source of laughter and entertainment. The band had just come off a tour so he was around a lot, and he was finally ready to introduce her to his kids, a step that she was petrified about as she sat in the Grohl’s kitchen clutching a glass of Sangria. It was a warm Thursday afternoon and the band were at Dave’s studio working on a new track Dave had written. Kate had invited Gen over for afternoon cocktails as all three Grohl children were with their grandmother for an extended weekend.
Chapter 10 - I Don't Know How it Looks
The summer sunlight streamed in through the balcony doors as Taylor opened his eyes. Gen was still asleep, breathing softly against his chest, her arm around his side. He smiled to himself and kissed the top of her head gently. It was nice to feel someone in his arms again in this way - not some girl he'd picked up backstage, not some wasted actress who had seemed like a good idea at the time. He was used to waking up with a headache and a stranger in his bed. This was different, familiar, but uncertain. His kids would be back in California tomorrow and as much as he'd been trying to push it out of his mind as an issue, he knew things were going to get complicated. He liked this girl. He really liked her, but he had two young kids and an ex-wife and a demanding career. Would it work? Could she put up with it? Was he ready to get into something serious again? His mind buzzed with questions as he felt her stir against him. He looked down to see her eyelids fluttering open. Those huge green eyes quieted his inner monologue for a moment. “Hi,” she whispered, biting her bottom lip with a smile. “Hi back.” He pulled her into him, their lips meeting in a warm, sleepy kiss. Gen wrapped her arms around his neck and wriggled up against him. “Shower?” Taylor grinned in response, throwing the duvet off of them and pulling her out of bed as she giggled and playfully struggled against him. After an incredibly long shower, the two returned to the bedroom clad in towels and smiles. “Well that was a pretty dirty way of getting clean,” Genevieve said, opening her overnight bag. Taylor laughed aloud and pulled on a pair of cargo shorts. Gen pulled out the boxers and Jane's Addiction shirt from her bag. “I really don't want to give this back,” she said pouting. Taylor snatched them from her hands. “Too bad - that's one of my oldest, dearest T-shirts,” he replied. “You can't have it.” Gen sighed dramatically and pulled out the dress she had packed. “Can we go to Venice today?” she asked. “I feel like the boardwalk today.” “Yeah that sounds good,” he said, admiring her as she pulled on a white bikini that did wonders for her assets. “I'll go anywhere you want me to if you're wearing that.” Gen threw her towel at him and pulled the coral dress over her bathing suit. An hour later they were parking on a side street a few blocks north of the beach. “Intelligencia?” Gen asked, referring to her favourite cafe chain. “I need to caffeinate” Taylor nodded his agreement and they walked hand in hand one block east until they reached the hip coffee shop. While in line for their drinks Gen could feel the eyes of strangers on them. These moments served as a thrilling yet terrifying reminder of exactly who she was holding hands with. A young boy Gen guessed was about 14 or so approached them timidly. “Excuse me,” the boy began anxiously, “are you Taylor Hawkins?” Taylor smiled warmly. “Guilty as charged, buddy,” he replied. The boy's face flushed with nervousness and excitement. “I'm a really big fan,” he gushed. “you're like, the drummer of the best band ever.” “Well I don't know about that, but thanks, man!” The boy asked Taylor for an autograph, which Taylor happily obliged, scrawling his name on the back of a flier for a local art show. “Sometimes I forget that you're famous.” Gen said as they left the cafe and headed towards the boardwalk. “Good.” Taylor squeezed her hand. “I like that about you.” The pair strolled the colorful boardwalk, goofing off, trying on novelty sunglasses, laughing at bizarre characters they encountered along the way. Gen felt like she hadn't laughed this much in ages. “My face hurts from smiling,” she cried, wrapping both arms around Taylor from the side and resting her head against his shoulder as they stopped to watch a street performer. “Well I like your smile, so suffer through it.” Just then, his pocket began to buzz. He pulled out his iPhone and the grin on his face faded slightly. Gen glanced at the screen and wished she hadn't when she saw the name Alison lit up on the screen. Taylor answered the call. “Hey… Yeah how's the trip?... Good… How are the munchkins… What time?... Yep that's good. Tell them I love them…Okay...” Gen's heart plummeted past her stomach and straight to her feet as reality hit her like a ton of bricks. She smiled weakly. “Ali?” He nodded. “How are the kids?” The words felt strange as they struggled out of her mouth. “They're good,” Taylor said running a hand through his hair, his eyes avoiding hers. “They're coming tomorrow. They were out of town with Ali visiting her parents for the past week. I get them for the next 4 days.” The tension between them was growing by the second. Gen nodded and bit the inside of her cheek, not sure what to think, do, or say. Taylor took her hand and led her onto the beach. They took off their shoes and walked in silence toward the surf until Taylor stopped and sat in the sand. Gen followed suit. They both sat staring forward, eyes on the waves until Taylor finally spoke. “I wish things could just unfold in their own time, but the kids kind of force this into `serious talk' territory pretty fast,” he began. “Gen,” he turned to face her, she reluctantly did the same, eyes meeting his for only a moment before dropping to the sand. “I'm really into you,” he continued. “I'm really into this, but the reality is… I have two kids that mean the world to me, and that's a lot to expect someone to deal with… and I don't know how it looks to be with someone seriously. I've never done it.” He sighed and grabbed Gen's hand, forcing her to look up at him. “I'm not saying this isn't going to happen. I'm just saying it's complicated. I don't know if I'm ready to introduce someone to my kids, and whatever we're doing or not doing here, it's too soon for that.” Gen clenched her jaw and nodded. “I get it,” she said carefully, forcing her lips into a tight smile. “Come on,” he said, jumping up suddenly and pulling her to her feet. “We're going to continue enjoying our day. Let's go.” He dragged her toward the water and she started laughing despite herself, struggling against him to no avail. He let go of her and pulled his shirt off, dropping it in the sand with his shoes. “Are you going to take that dress off or am I?” Gen hesitated, but realized she had little choice in the matter and pulled the dress over her head. He tore it from her hand and threw it on top of his pile of belongings, then bent and grabbed her by the waist, throwing her over his shoulder. She screamed as he ran into the surf, kicking her legs in the air. He dropped her feet first in the water when it had reached waist level and she shrieked at the sudden plunge into the chilly Pacific. He pulled her tight against his chest and pressed his mouth to hers. She kissed him back but her chest felt heavy. This might be the last day, she thought to herself. This is probably it. They played in the salty ocean water for a while and she tried to push the doubt and resignation from her mind with moderate success. The afternoon became evening and they headed back to the house and changed into dry clothes. “Let's order in,” Taylor suggested. “I'm thinking Indian and Netflix.” Gen agreed and soon thereafter they were settled on the couch, Gen's head resting in Taylor's lap, empty and half-empty take-out containers on the coffee table, a thriller starring Liam Neeson playing on the large flatscreen in front of them. Taylor stroked Gen's hair, engrossed in the film. Without realizing, Gen had fallen asleep in his lap. Just over an hour later she woke with a start to Taylor's voice. “Iggy,” he whispered. “I've gotta take you home now, sweetheart.” Gen's heart sank. The kids were coming early in the morning. She had known she wouldn't be staying the night, but the assertion still stung. She sat up slowly and he kissed her shoulder. “I'm sorry.” “It's fine,” she smiled, standing. “I'll grab my bag.” The drive back to Studio City was quiet and tense. Gen stared out the passenger window willing her emotions to stay under the surface. They pulled up to the curb in front of her apartment and Taylor put the truck in park. They both exhaled deeply. He reached across the console and grabbed her knee. “Iggy.” Gen plastered a cool smile on her face as she turned to him. “I'll talk to you soon, okay?” He continued. She nodded. He took her face in his hands and kissed her, softly at first and then with intensity, pulling her against him over the console. She melted against his chest, her eyes squeezed tight, her brow knit. She was convinced this was the last kiss, and she treated it as such, hungrily devouring everything he gave. They parted with great effort, panting. He cupped her face in one hand and looked at her a moment before kissing her on the forehead. “Goodnight Iggy.” “Goodnight.” She slipped out of the SUV and crossed the yard to her door. She didn't look back, she wouldn't let herself. Taylor watched her, his own heart heavy, his head swimming with questions, doubts, and `what ifs.' Gen closed the door behind her and rested against it, squeezing her eyes shut. “Rach?” she called out weakly, not remembering for a moment that Rachel would be at work tonight. She sunk against the door and slid to the floor, the tears she'd been fighting since their talk on the beach finally welling up in her eyes. Her slender frame shook with sudden sobs as she finally allowed herself to feel the impact of the day. She missed him already. --------------------- Chapter 11 >>
Chapter 8 - Chaos and Desire
The first sensation Genevieve felt when she began to stir from sleep was warmth. One of her arms was around someone, her other pressed against a chest, her legs intertwined with another's, her face resting against the crook of a neck. Sensations it seemed like ages since she had felt. Taylor, she thought, memories of the night flooding back to her. She slid her head back on the pillow and opened her eyes. There he was - tangible, warm and beautiful, one arm wrapped around her waist. A smile played on her lips as she took it all in. The California sun was filtering in through sheer curtains, a breeze blowing across the bed. She softly slid her hand up to his face, brushing some errant strands of hair out of the way. Celebrity status, past hurt and over-analysis aside, there was a man next to her who was kind, generous, sexy, and made her feel beautiful and desired. She pressed her lips to his as he slept, and traced his bicep with her fingers. He stirred, squinted and opened his eyes. Those eyes. “Taylor?” she whispered as his fingers mimicked hers, tracing patterns on her skin. “Mmhmm?” he responded. “I'm not scared anymore.” He squinted at her, trying to read her expression with sleep-filled eyes. “Are you sure?” “Don't.” She put a finger to his lips, smiling, cozying up against his chest, and kissing his neck. She felt his body respond to her, and pressed herself tighter against him, her mouth moving back up to connect with his. His hand moved across her cheek, through her hair and cupped the back of her head, pulling her into the kiss. She slid her free arm under his side and wrapped both around his back, fingertips pressing into his warm skin. He rolled on top of her, one leg between hers, propping himself up on one elbow, his other hand slipping under the thin T-shirt she had worn to bed, gently cupping one firm breast. A small moan escaped her lips and a shiver ran through her as she felt her nipples stiffen under his touch. She ran her hands down his chest, and across his protruding hip bones (in her opinion, hip bones were one of the sexiest features on a man) and her own hips instinctively lifted off the bed. He pulled at her T-shirt and she lifted her arms to allow him to peel it off of her. “Fuck,” Taylor exhaled sharply, taking in her nearly naked body. She had perfect breasts. They rose and fell with her quickened breathing and he lowered himself to kiss them, his fingers finding the waistband of her panties and gently tugging down as she wiggled her way out of them. His hair hung in his face as he looked down at her. She looked away quickly avoiding his intense gaze. “Hey,” he whispered. She looked at him, anxiety in her green eyes. He sensed her vulnerability and felt a tightness in his chest he hadn't experienced in years. “Genevieve…” He couldn't find the words so he kissed her instead, his tongue expressing what his current vocabulary would not. Gen's heart was racing in her chest. Her mouth melted into his as she pulled off the only item of clothing separating them. This was it. There was nothing left, just skin against skin, mouth against mouth, tongues and fingers tangling and intertwining, the chaos and desire of two people hungry for each other. After reaching into a bedside table for proper precautions, Taylor placed himself between her soft thighs, kissing her throat, her cheeks, her eyelids. “Please… Taylor.” She breathed, eyes once anxious, now pleading. He paused a moment, reveling in the effect he seemed to be having on her, then happily obliged, guiding himself inside her with a gentle thrust. They moaned in stereo at the delicious new sensations and Gen's nails dug into Taylor's back as he moved above her. She stretched her neck off the pillow to meet his lips, moaning into his mouth as she kissed him fiercely. “Fuck, Gen,” Taylor moaned, slowing his pace. “I don't think I can last very long… this is too fucking good.” She could see him struggling to keep it together as much as she was. Her legs twitching as her pelvis rose to meet his thrusts. “It's okay,” she gasped, “that's what round two is for…” she kissed him. “…and round three.” Another kiss, their teeth colliding as they both grinned. “…and four.” Taylor's pace quickened as he neared release, his fingers laced with Gen's on either side of them. He threw his head back and let out a guttural moan as his body shuddered with satisfaction. Gen kissed his hair, neck and shoulders feverishly as he collapsed against her, panting. She wrapped her arms around him and smiled at the feeling of their damp bodies, still connected, clinging to each other as though they were two people drowning. They lay like that for a while, Gen stroking his hair softly, her eyes closed, a smile on her lips. He finally stirred, turning his head to kiss her neck and rolling off of her and on to his back. She curled into the nook under his arm and rested her cheek on his chest. “I'm sorry,” he said, kissing the top of her head. “I couldn't make it last.” “I'll take it as a compliment,” she laughed, running her fingernails lightly up and down his chest, making him shiver. He pulled his arm out from underneath her and used it to prop himself up, positioning himself over her again. “Nope, it's not going down this way,” he said, kissing her neck, down to her chest, her stomach, her hip… Gen began to giggle, slapping her hand to her forehead. Taylor looked up at her, confused. “It's going down this way instead?” she burst out laughing again, this time Taylor joined her. “Really Iggy? I was being sexy there for a minute. You ruined it.” “I'm sorry, I couldn't help it.” She bit her lip, looking down at him innocently. He smiled and placed another kiss on her inner thigh. She sighed in response, then moaned as his kisses moved inward. She dug her nails into the bed sheets beside her and her back arched off the mattress as his tongue worked its magic on her. His hands moved up her thighs to her hips, thumbs gently pressing just above her hip bones, causing her to cry out in pleasure. She felt a pulsing warmth building inside her and she called out Taylor's name as it washed over her in waves. ** “Hi,” Genevieve whispered, smiling at Taylor who was now lying beside her on the bed, head propped up by one arm. “Good morning,” he replied. She was in a delicious moment of bliss, looking at him, still feeling the after-effects of their entanglement. She closed her eyes again. There was nothing there. No nagging thoughts, no fear, just satisfaction and bliss. Gen opened her eyes. She was alone in bed. She felt a moment of panic. Had she dreamed it all? She saw the T-shirt she had worn the night prior crumpled on the floor and relief flooded through her, along with a shiver of delight. She strained her ears to listen for sounds of life and heard splashing from outside. The pool. She crawled out of bed, pulled on the T-shirt she had worn last night, slipped on a pair of white boxer briefs she found in a pile of folded laundry and crept out onto the balcony that overlooked the back yard. She leaned against the railing and looked down. Taylor was swimming laps across the large pool, his tanned, wiry arms cutting through the water with precision. After a few laps he surfaced and spotted her. “Well hey there, sleepyhead!” he teased, yelling up to her. “How long was I asleep for?” “Maybe an hour.” “Jeeze, I just drifted off without realizing, I was so relaxed.” “I'll take that as a compliment,” he laughed, mimicking her line from earlier. “Now get your cute self down here!” Gen grinned and headed inside, sweeping down the staircase and crossing the living room to the patio doors. When she walked outside Taylor was out of the pool lighting a cigarette, his shorts dripping on the flagstone. “Shit, that's hot,” he said, taking in her makeshift outfit as he exhaled a cloud of smoke. “Isn't it? Very chic, I thought,” she laughed, doing a spin as she reached him. He responded by pulling her against his wet chest and lowering his mouth to hers. His lips were wet and smoky. Her hands slid around him and she clasped them together against his lower back. Their faces parted. He took a drag of his cigarette and then put it to her lips. She took a pull, inhaling deeply and exhaling smoke towards the blue sky above them. “Dave and Kate invited us over for lunch,” Taylor said, tousling her bangs with his free hand. “Yum, I'm starving,” Gen replied enthusiastically. Squeezing her eyes shut until he was finished. Taylor looked down. “Seriously though, are those my briefs? Why is that so hot? Is it time for round two now?” He flicked his cigarette across the patio and grabbed her, grinding against her playfully. She squealed and pounded her fists against his chest. “Nooo!” she she shrieked as he picked her up and carried her toward the pool's edge. She screamed and kicked her legs, laughing hysterically. “Taylor, DON'T!” He did. Genevieve surfaced, sputtering. “You asshole!” she choked, still laughing. “Genevieve! Get out of the pool! We're going to be late.” Taylor stood at the edge, hands on his hips. “I hate you.” She glared at him as she treaded water. He reached his hand out to help her and she swam towards him. She grabbed the edge of the pool with one hand and reached up to take his with the other, but before he could pull her up she braced her legs on the edge of the pool and pushed away quickly, causing Taylor to tumble into the pool after her. He surfaced quickly and swam at her. “That's IT! You're dead!” Gen squealed and tried to swim away, but he was quick, catching hold of her and dunking her head under the cool water. She squirmed out of his grip and swam as fast as she could away from him, grasping the edge of the pool with both hands. He caught her right ankle and pulled, stretching her across the water as she kicked her free leg, splashing him. “SURRENDER, Iggy! Your time is up!” She laughed and finally stopped kicking. He let go of her ankle and grabbed her waist instead, pushing her against the wall of the pool. She spun to face him as he closed in on her with an evil grin. He grabbed the edge on either side of her to keep himself upright. “Gotcha,” he whispered. She responded by crushing her mouth against his, latching onto his waist to stay afloat. Gen felt an overwhelming urgency unlike anything she'd ever experienced. She wanted him to devour her, and her him, she wanted the outside world to stop existing so this could be the only reality, and as she felt him pressing against her, she wanted him inside again more than she could handle. A sudden buzzing noise rang out from in the house, interrupting their watery groping session. “Fuuuckkkkk!” Taylor groaned. “That's the door.” Gen pouted, rolled her eyes back dramatically and let go of his waist, sinking down to the bottom of the pool. Taylor laughed, looking down at the air bubbles that had replaced his girl. His girl. Where did that thought come from? He shook his head, shaking it from his mind, and pulled himself up and out of the water as Gen came up for air. “Go get some real clothes on, woman,” he drawled, strutting towards the house, “we got us a lunch to attend!” ------------------------------------------- Chapter 9 >>
Chapter 7 - Ache and Burst
**AUTHORS NOTE: This story was written after reading/falling in love with the story “Stranger Things Have Happened” by the lovely FooFan606 (who has become a partner in crime!) I chose to write her characters into this story, so if you want to know who the heck this Kate person is, you'd best read her story!** --------------------------------------- Genvieve felt her nerves on edge as they parked and began walking up the driveway to Dave's house. Taylor sensed her fear and put a reassuring arm around her as they rounded a corner and a group of people came into view. She could hear children squealing and splashing in the pool which seemed to be around the other side of the large white house. “What's up buddy?” Dave called from behind a massive grill. Taylor waved at him as they approached. “You remember the lovely Genevieve?” Taylor gestured to her and she forced a winning smile. “Of course! Good to see you again, Gen!” Dave smiled warmly but she caught the tiny quizzical glance he shot at Taylor. “Thanks for having me,” she offered awkwardly. “Come on,” Taylor grabbed her hand and began to lead her past Dave and into the house. “Let's go get our swimming trunks on.” “Don't you already have your swimming trunks on…like, permanently?” she laughed as he lead them to a large bathroom off the living room, shutting the door behind them. “I sure do,” he said huskily as he pulled her against him, kissing her with vigor. She pulled back after a moment, laughing. “Taylor!” she whispered sharply. “This is so inappropriate! Get out of here!” She giggled as he kissed her neck insistently. “This is not a good first impression to make!” He pouted and she laughed. “Will you just grab us some drinks and I'll be out in a minute?” “You're no fun, Iggy.” He sulked and left her. Making sure the door was locked behind him, she hurriedly disrobed and pulled on the swimsuit, looking into the mirror. Rachel was right. This suit was the perfect choice. The halter top flattered her ample chest while covering it respectably and the bottoms were a ruched skirt style, based on vintage suits of the 50's and 60's. Her slender middle was toned nicely thanks to an obsession with pilates. She looked good. Just sexy enough without being inappropriate for a family barbeque. She smiled bravely at herself in the mirror and pulled her hair into a loose knot on top of her head, then wrapped her towel around her waist for modesty. She heard a knock at the door. She sighed, flinging it open with mock exasperation only to find herself face to face with Kate Grohl, Dave's wife. Gen remembered reading the stories on Perez the year prior, Dave had divorced his second wife, Jordyn Blum, a few years back and had since remarried and had a young son with a girl named Kate. Gen remembered how envious she had been, herself going through a messy breakup with yet another musician. What had this regular girl done to get it right? “Oh! Sorry!” Gen startled. “I thought you were-“ before she could finish Taylor swung around the corner, two Coronas in hand. “Let's see this sexy—heeyy Kate!” He stopped in his tracks. “I see you've met Iggy.” “Actually I haven't,” Kate smiled politely, eyes full of unasked questions. “It's Genevieve.” Gen put out her hand to Kate, flashing an irritated look at Taylor. “I'm a friend of Taylors.” “Nice to meet you Genevieve,” Kate replied, looking back and forth at the two with a slightly raised brow. “Taylor didn't mention he was bringing company.” Just then, a squealing toddler raced around the corner and crashed into his mother's leg, rescuing them all from the tension in the air. “James David Grohl!” Kate laughed, picking up her son. “No running in the house!” “Swim!” JD cried, tiny hands circling Kate's neck. “Okay okay, we'll swim.” She responded, bouncing him. She turned her attention back to Taylor. “We were hoping you'd bring Shane and Annabelle,” she said, glancing at Gen. “The girls were excited.” “Ali and the kids are visiting her parents this week,” Taylor replied, a touch of irritation in his voice. Gen wished she could melt into the tiles of the floor. “That's too bad,” Kate responded. “Well, hurry outside, the water is great today!” She turned, JD balanced on her hip and headed towards the patio doors. Gen looked at Taylor, brow furrowed with anxiety. “Hey there, sweet thing,” his lazy grin reappeared as he offered her a beer. “This is so uncomfortable,” she sighed. He responded with a peck on her cheek and draped a lanky arm around her shoulders. “You're a tough cookie, Igg. Let's go meet the rest of the Foo family, shall we?” She took a big swig of her lime-infused liquid comfort and begrudgingly allowed him to lead her out to the patio. They stepped outside into the late afternoon sunshine and Gen focused on breathing through her discomfort. All the band members were there, along with wives and children galore. There were some other guests outside of the band. Some nannies and friends she didn't recognize. Nate Mendel was the first to spot them. He nodded a hello to Taylor. “Nate this is Gen,” Taylor said, and Gen waved shyly in greeting. The most subdued member of the band, Nate waved back without making an effort to start any sort of conversation and continued sipping his drink. Gen was in the midst of shooting Taylor an “I give up” look when she felt a tug at her towel. She looked down to see a little girl with big blue eyes and blonde ringlets looking up at her. “Who are you?” asked the small girl innocently. Gen smiled warmly, finally finding a guest of the barbeque that didn't seem to be sizing her up. “I'm Genevieve,” she replied, “who are you?” The girl cast her eyes down, suddenly shy. “Violet,” she whispered. “I live here.” “You have a very nice house, Violet,” Gen matched her whisper, “and a very pretty name.” Violet smiled and looked back up at Gen. “Do you like to swim?” “I sure do!” “Will you swim with me?” “I'd love that!” Gen laughed, passing her Corona to Taylor and taking Violet's outstretched hand. Taylor watched the two girls head towards the pool and a smile took over his face. There had been a lot of girls following his separation from Ali. After a marriage that long it was hard not to come out swinging, and in his career it wasn't difficult to do, but there was something different about this one. He admired her slender figure as she removed the towel from around her waist. He wanted her. He wanted her, but he also liked her. Shit. “Who's the girl?” Chris Shiflett was now standing beside him, following his gaze. “Her name's Genevieve.” “She's cute.” “She's beautiful.” He replied, watching Gen lift Violet in the pool and spin her around. Chris turned to look at him. “Oh yeah?” he smirked, looking from Taylor, to Gen, then back again. Taylor turned to Chris, returning to the moment. “Yeah man, she's cool.” Chris nodded, the smirk not leaving his face. He patted his friend on the back. “I look forward to meeting her.” Gen was helping Violet dry off after their dip in the pool. The little girl giggled and squirmed as she wrapped her up in a Disney beach towel. “Gen-veeve, do you like Barbies?” “I love Barbies!” “Will you play them with me someday?” Gen looked across the yard. Taylor was sitting with Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the two were air drumming. She smiled. “I hope so, Violet,” she replied quietly. Taylor caught her eye and grinned, arms flailing in time. She really did hope so. Just then, Kate walked over to them. “Violet,” she called as she approached, “Daddy has hot dogs ready for you - can you go help Hayden make hers?” Violet nodded and raced across the lawn towards the large table that was now covered with food and condiments. “Genevieve,” she paused, running a hand through her long red hair. “I owe you an apology.” Gen looked at her uncertainly. “I am really close with Ali,” she continued, “and no matter how amicable their separation has been, it's still a difficult adjustment not having her around.” She sighed. “I'll admit when I met you a million judgements passed through my mind and it was so rude and wrong of me.” Gen could feel her cheeks going pink. “Kate, there's no need to apologize, really, you don't owe me any---“ “Please,” Kate interrupted, “it wasn't that long ago I was in exactly your shoes. I of all people should have been more welcoming.” “It's totally fine, please don't worry about it.” Gen was genuinely touched. “Taylor's a great guy, he's become a close friend, and he must like you because you're the first girl since Ali he's brought to any family event.” “I really don't know him very well…” “Well it's obvious he likes you a lot.” Kate smiled “Are you going to the show tonight?” Gen nodded. The two continued to chat as they made their way over to the food and filled paper plates with potato salad and veggie skewers. Gen felt two arms slide around her waist and leaned back into Taylor. “Did you have a good swim, Iggy?” he kissed the top of her head and she nodded. “It was pretty sweet”, he continued. “Violet is sweet,” she replied. “You're pretty sweet yourself,” he said, letting go of her to help himself to a plate of food. Kate gave Gen an `I told you so' look before heading across the lawn to where Dave was entertaining his daughters and son. Later that night, the children were placed in the care of nannies and the grown-ups headed down to Silverlake for the Garbage show. Taylor and Gen had driven with Dave and Kate. They found a spot on West Silver Lake and walked up to the back of the venue. Gen couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement as the four were ushered through the back door with authority and lead to a little nook at the side of the stage. The secret show was clearly no longer a secret, and the small club was packed to the brim with excited fans. Gen reveled in the moment - she was equally excited to see one of the bands she had loved so much in her teenage years, but she was not pressed in a crowd of hundreds. She had room to move, space to breathe, and in that space were some pretty amazing individuals, including a beach-blonde drummer whose hand was on her lower back as he yelled over the music into Dave Grohl's ear. Even the word surreal didn't seem strong enough to describe her current reality. Suddenly, as if it were a dream, a group of men and a stunning redhead passed by them and made their way to the stage to a roar of applause. Garbage launched into a song from their new record and won the crowd (and Genevieve) over in an instant. More members of the Foo clan arrived as the band continued, but Gen didn't notice. She was wrapped up in the show unfolding in 3D before her eyes. At a break between songs, Taylor grabbed Gen's hand and she turned to face him. “Having fun?” he smiled. She responded by taking his face in her hands and putting her lips to his. Just as this happened, the first few notes of Medication rang from the stage and Taylor's arms moved around her waist. She felt her heart ache and burst in the most perfect way. Her favourite Garbage song, Taylor's lips, his hands - she yearned to live only in this moment for the rest of her life. All her jaded walls tumbled down as her hands slipped around his neck and she pressed herself against him. “Get a room!” Pat Smear's voice interrupted their reverie, and they broke apart, laughing. Gen's eyes locked with Taylor's and there was something behind his that moved her. A brief moment of total vulnerability passed between them that both excited and terrified her. It was lost as quickly as it came when a tray of shots was offered to them by a busboy. The group all grabbed one and the rest were offered to the band onstage, who happily accepted. “I'd like to make a toast to all our friends from California,” Shirley said in her thick Scottish accent as she raised her shot in the air. “We are blessed you're still here after all these years!” The crowd cheered loudly. Shirley turned to side stage and smiled, raising her glass and nodding her head at them. They all took the shot as the crowd went wild and the band went into “Stupid Girl” without missing a beat. Gen, inhibitions fading began to sing along and dance and Kate quickly joined her, the two serenading each other while Dave and Taylor laughed. After the show Taylor, Gen, and Pat went out back to have a cigarette, where they were rushed by a small gathering of fans. Gen stepped back from the scene, smoking and observing with a shy smile. They worshipped him. A pretty young girl was asking for a photo with Taylor. Gen recognized the look in her eyes… the longing, the hope. She saw a past version of herself in those eyes and that sick feeling returned to her stomach. This couldn't last. It was only a matter of time before the other shoe dropped. Taylor hugged the young fan and gave her a peck on the cheek then looked around, winking at Gen when he found her. She smiled back at him, a dull ache in her chest. He greeted a few more fans then made his way back over to her, grabbing her hand. “Let's find Dave and Kate and get outta here,” he said as he lead her back inside. A short time later the four pulled up outside of Taylor's house, Kate behind the wheel. “I'll pick up the Rover tomorrow,” Taylor said, unbuckling his seatbelt. There had been a few more rounds of drinks after that cigarette earlier and neither Taylor nor Gen were in prime driving condition. Kate was nice enough to be the designated driver of the evening and she squeezed Gen's hand over the console as they said goodbye. “Genevieve,” she began. “You're lovely. Please come by again soon. Taylor, are you hearing me? She's wonderful.” “I know, I know,” he dismissed her playfully, getting out of the truck. Dave also got out and gave Taylor a bear hug, clapping him on the back. He hugged Gen next, wrapping her up in tattooed arms and giving her a kiss on the cheek, his beard tickling her skin. “Goodnight, Genevieve. We'll see you soon.” He winked and climbed into the passenger seat, then leaned over the console to kiss his wife while she attempted to wave goodbye. Gen and Taylor waved as the truck pulled away from the curb. Taylor turned to her. “You spending the night, Iggy?” he asked, slipping his hands around her waist and pulling her into him. “Well you're in no condition to drive me home, are you?” she whispered, smiling, their faces inches apart. “Oh no, I'm an absolute mess,” he replied softly, closing the gap between their lips. His mouth was warm and tasted like whiskey and cigarettes. Genevieve was sure it was the most delicious flavor of all. Her hands found their way to his face, fingers combing through his shaggy hair. His hands slid down her back, and then even lower. He scooped her up and she wrapped her legs around his waist, her arms tightening around his shoulders as he carried her into the house and up the stairs. Once in the bedroom, he set her down on her feet and she looked up at him. Suddenly she was petrified, her eyes warm green saucers, her hands shaking slightly. “You're fucking beautiful,” Taylor said, running a calloused hand across her cheek and cupping her face. “I'm fucking terrified,” she replied, laughing softly. He kissed her gently and she melted into him again, her body turning to liquid lust as she felt him harden against her thigh. She pulled back. “I don't know if I can do this.” He kissed her again. “Gen, I'm pretty sure you can do just about anything in this moment,” he laughed, “but if you don't want to that's okay too.” “Believe me,” she started, running her hands over his T-shirt across his hard chest and hooking her fingers in the waistband of his shorts, “I want to.” She looked back up at him. “I want you, but I'm scared, and I don't want to be scared. I want to do this when my brain is willing to stop sabotaging what my body wants.” His hands slid under her shirt, fingers trailing across the skin of her lower back, making her shiver. “Okay,” he conceded with a sigh, kissing her cheek and then her neck. “I don't want you to be scared either. I really like being with you.” His lips met hers again for a soft kiss. “However, I do now need to take a shower and deal with this,” he gestured south, “or neither of us are getting any sleep.” The goofy grin Gen was becoming addicted to spread across his face and she laughed. “T-shirts are in there,” he pointed to a dresser across the room, “help yourself to something to sleep in. I'll be back in a few.” He stripped off his T-shirt, tossing it towards a hamper and gave her a final knee-weakening kiss, then smacked her playfully on the behind, flashed another big smile and padded out of the room and down the hall. As Gen's eyes followed his wiry, half-naked frame out of the room she began to wonder if she was completely insane for not letting him have her then and there, after all, she was already practically a puddle on the floor, but she shook her head and moved towards the dresser instead, pulling off all clothing except her boy-cut panties and pulling on a worn-in band tee before crawling under the covers of his massive California King sized bed. *** Taylor turned off the water in the shower, hair dripping around his face. He had satisfied his physical need, but not his desires. What was this girl doing to him? He stepped out into the bathroom, drying his hair vigorously with a towel and then wrapping it around his waist. He took a breath. Genevieve. She was something. He looked in the mirror. Age was beginning to show on his once carefree face. Lines creased his forehead and the corners of his eyes. He ran his fingers through his wet hair, which was getting long, just grazing his shoulders, and sighed heavily. He returned to his bedroom and smiled wide at what he found. Genevieve was curled up in the middle of the bed, fast asleep. She looked so tiny and timid amidst the crisp white duvet and mountain of pillows. He hung his bath towel on the doorknob, slipped on a pair of grey boxer briefs and crawled under the covers carefully, as not to wake her. He looked down at her for a moment, smiling as he watched her eyelids flutter, her lips parted slightly, dark hair cascading across the white pillow case. He kissed her cheek softly, turned off the lamp on the bedside table, then curled in behind her, draping an arm across her and pressing against her warm body. He breathed in the smell of her skin and kissed the back of her neck before closing his own eyes and smiling himself to sleep. ------------------------------------------- Chapter 8 >>
