Dirk vs. Bart

DGHDA season 2 opens with Dirk as a happy ray of sunshine, having escaped Blackwing and reunited with his people. An episode later he feels lost in the stream of creation, trying to find an identity in his Holistic Detective role. But with his friends and a new case he eventually secures his role and gets his Detective Agency.

He is healed.

Season 2 also opens with Bart. But her situation is an exact opposite. She is lost in the stream of creation. She’s lost Ken and is searching for a purpose, even fighting against the universe and not killing Suzie. But she finds Panto and begins to hope again, even seeing Ken before she runs off to Wendimoor. But when all of Wendimoor is massacred, she begins to break. She does her duty, killing all the Kellum Knights, but she’s broken. Francis finds her like this: questioning her purpose and the hopelessness of her friendships. She turns herself into Blackwing, perhaps reaching out to Ken in a last moment of desperation. Or perhaps, with full knowledge of what he’s become, she fully gives up. Her friends are dead, and Ken has betrayed her.

She is broken.
