Inverted Merlin AU Idea
Okay, so, imagine this is like… while all the Knights of the Round Table are all together.
In a scheme to ensure Arthur and Merlin are useless, someone (idk who, I’m bad at timelines and haven’t finished the show) whether it’s Morgana/Morgause or someone else, Merlin and Arthur are enchanted to have their personalities inverted
Merlin
Merlin is now cold, exceedingly rude, likes to see people suffer (especially Arthur) and would really rather get rid of the useless coward (Arthur) that’s attached himself to him
Merlin freely uses magic for his own selfish purposes, especially to hex and curse the Round Table
This inverted Merlin speaks formally most of the time, until he loses his temper or Arthur interacts with him
(Arthur: PLEASE SAVE MEEE!!!
Merlin: Fucking hell…)
Speaking of Arthur…
Arthur
Arthur is exceedingly cowardly, he also enjoys seeing people suffer, but usually makes (more like begs) Merlin to do his dirty work
(Clinging onto Merlin, pouting, Arthur: Would you kill him for me, Merlin, please…!)
Arthur is more than okay with Merlin’s magic, as long as it’s used to get rid of his enemies (which is most people. He doesn’t like anyone, except Merlin)
Inverted Arthur would take one look at the Round Table and ask Merlin to obliterate them because they have sharp, pointy swords and look scary
The Merthur dynamic is quite different, although, they still stick together despite their personalities being inverted
Merlin —> Arthur
Merlin views Arthur as a particularly interesting pet, a pathetic pet, but an… okay one, nonetheless
He readily hurts, demeans, and humiliates Arthur for his own entertainment. Arthur is more than fine with that
Arthur —> Merlin
Arthur is Merlin’s biggest fan and also his most common almost-murderer. He’d often try to kill Merlin (which the warlock easily thwarts) while still being his sycophantic self (he’s basically Starscream from Transformers Prime, iykyk)
Inverted Arthur is honestly like Merlin’s mistreated servant, and he likes it like that. He would do anything for Merlin, insist on him doing favors in return, tries to kill him when he doesn’t, fails, repeat
