Being inspired by bigger talented artists (shout out to moots) to draw something is like when you see those "5 minute 3 ingredient easy snack" or any food and you're hungry so you go to cook it.. but then when you do it looks like crap. And posting it anyway and still getting likes somehow is like giving it to a neighbor and the come back for more/compliment your cooking skills. Like what..? Me??? But it's not even good, I guess it's cause it's something they like enough to still consume
I've posted mostly about Dragon Age on here but it's not my favorite game series. I have a lot of love for it. It's a messy, multi-faceted fantasy epic but it's definitely not "great art" in my estimation. It's parts are too disparate, don't quite come together for me. The writing is the most consistent aspect of the series, including Veilguard. There's a distinct throughline in the series that is easy to follow and back track. The Blight, Titans, Elves. You can trace all these things with minimal inconsistency in the lore from Origins to Veilguard. But the rest...
Non-diegetic elements like gameplay systems, music and even art styles vary so widely from game to game. Even gameplay elements seem to contradict story, character and lore like half-assed character classes like Dorian's necromancer sub-class. Sometimes the game doesn't even feel good to play on a minute-to-minute basis depending on the entry you're playing. I hate the combat in DA2, it feels absolutely awful to play and the encounters in the base game are dog shit. Inquisition clearly wanted to be more reaction based with dodging, blocking, and parry mechanics, but those are locked behind ability point unlocks for some reason. Like, you have to block as a sword-and-board warrior, it's mandatory so why make it a wasted ability slot? Anyways...
Still love these games but I don't hold them in very high regards anymore. You can definitely find better, more profound art on itch.io that's not made in a corporate meat grinder.
The height chart! I am mostly just using this as a reference for drawing, since I need to keep track of everyone's heights and proportions compared to one another. May be subject to updates in the future, but not for a while. I measure their heights from the top of their heads and not their horns or other appendages, just in case you were confused, lmao.
