using the process of gamification is something i discovered on this post and decided to implement it into my own life. i thought i'd make my own post to explain my personal system, since the original was a little bit confusing.
so, let's start with quests. there are 2 types of quests: main quests and daily quests, which i also call assignments. main quests last for a 'cycle' of 21 days (which is how long it takes to build a habit!). daily quests/assignments are in a to-do list format and build up to completing the main quest. each quest is related to a stat, which is developed by the completion of the main and daily quests. an example of this is my own quests and stats:

as such, i've got daily quests to help with this:
i use the format of:
task
difficulty class (F is super easy and S onwards is super hard)
the reward is in stat points (i'll go more into this later)
there is also a punishment (which for me is not using any electronics) and a duration for it.
now for the stats!
daily quests have stats in the same way main quests do, and doing each daily quest gives you daily quest stat points, depending on the difficulty of the task. you will need a separate tracker to track this:
once you get to 10 daily quest stat points, that equals one main quest stat point. once you reach 10 main quest stat points, you can level up! any rank system can be used, i'm using F-S at the moment.
the damage section is for not completing an assignment: if you don't complete one, you take 1 damage point. the usual conversion is 10 daily stat points (dstp) = 1 main stat point (mstp), but if you get a damage point you have to get 11 dstps to get 1 mstp. to get rid of emotional damage points, you need to complete your daily quests and get it back to 0. this can't go into the negatives!
not completing any of the main quests in the 21 day cycle causes you to lose a point for the corresponding stat, meaning you can't rank up.
lastly, the punishment.
if i don't complete at least 5/6 quests, i set myself a punishment. i haven't come up with one yet, but the post i referenced uses 150 burpees as their punishment, something you don't want to do and strains you. make sure the punishment isn't too severe, take care of your health first!
and yeah, that's it! i've been using this system for a few days now, and i think it works similarly to duolingo's streak in motivating me to do things, and the best part is, it's completely customisable. you can do anything you want with it.
