Wife said I should post more. Here's an old meme I made. I fuckin' love minidiscs. I tells ya, bud. A lotta people think Minidiscs were meant to compete with CDs, but owing to their amazing rewritability features they were actually posited as a replacement for cassette tapes. They're aesthetic as all hell... transparent plastics, sexy Y2K fonts. Seriously, minidiscs are gorgeous. Today they're kind of irrelevant as all hell, almost like the 90's equivalent of 8-track. CD-R and -RW came and blew them outta the water but there's still niche circles for mindisc, and hey, there's an emoji for them, so hell yeah, I will stan minidiscs.

Format Wars

Toying with a scifi short story idea where aliens start transmitting threats, eventually invade the two largest continents, and are ultimately negotiated to peace, but everything takes place in PAL format so the US doesn't even know anything's happened until it's over.

Still fucks me up that VHS beat Betamax and we only really recently started using beta as an insult towards people (at least Sony got the limelight of very possibly the final physical medium media will be released on)

Yeah, from everything I’ve heard Betamax was an objectively better technology (in terms of video/audio quality) but they had even worse capacity than VHS and were more expensive to boot.

There’s also long been speculation that the porn industry’s choice of VHS played a big role in its eventual victory - which, fun fact, would later be repeated in the Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD format wars of the mid-2000s.

I will or. Day be free of streaming services! I just bought 14 DVDs! Most having been movies I’ve looked for and they can only be “bought” with streaming services! Hahahaha! I bought it for like $5 at Half Priced Books and now a CEO or Board can’t determine when I can and can’t watch Paul Blart or Ever After or The Peanuts Movie
