KICKSTARTER IS LIVE! I was asked to design the pins for this project but had to bow out after starting a basic sketch thanks to the flooding last month. @foxloft and @artofbalaa riffed off it and collaborated on this series of absolutely stunning artwork featuring a variety of vultures- beautiful, important and very misunderstood birds. These will be large pins and I’m confident they are going to be simply stunning! You can support the Kickstarter here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/foxfeather/visionary-vultures-enamel-pin-collection?ref=cgt52j&token=bf76ef09 #missmonster #missmonstermel #foxloft #balaa #artofbalaa #vulture #vultureawareness #pingamestrong #enamelpin #pin https://www.instagram.com/p/CEUoiP0lrI5/?igshid=jd4hna72jgcn
Mixed media study of the farm I’ve been watching over for the past couple days
Come meet the burrowing owls, now LIVE on Twitch!
If you miss it today, you can follow us @TheFoxloft to be notified when we're streaming; we will be live with various education ambassador birds and the farm flock (emus, peafowl, chickens, turkeys, etc.) regularly.
Weekend Roundup
Friday was another hot day, but at least had no fire evacuations. I had some time after work to get Tiabeanie to the dog park. She missed it on Thursday due to...well the fire alerts. This however is the park that was only a street over from that evac route, and most people seemed to still be avoiding it (or the heat) so there were no other dogs there during a time when there usually would have been. She mostly spent her pent up energy enjoying different patches of shade.
Saturday morning felt like a full day all on its own considering the amount of laundry and food prep I did to get the house ready for a visit from my aunt and uncle. After a nap and their arrival, the rest of the day was much more relaxed.
Plus! Andrew got the mail and in it was some pins I had kickstarted from @foxloft I LOVE these and I'm so excited to now have a female kestrel pin to match the male from the previous set <3
Sunday was a baby shower (and the reason relatives were in town)! Got to see a lot of folks I haven't seen in years and made the mother-to-be cry with my gift to her (yay?); an illustrated copy of Sara Kay's poem "B" about mothers and daughters. I'm glad it was outside, and also that outside wasn't terribly hot, because I was able to bring Tiabeanie and she had a good time getting attention from humans and giving probably too much attention to the ground squirrels at the park.
All in all, a great weekend of visits all around, with great food too! The homemade pizzas and sliders on fresh baked rolls made having guests in the tiny house a little bit easier to handle honestly.
Some Monday morning yak cuteness for you :)
I’ve been MIA for awhile and here is part of why :)
Meet Iroh, Mai, and Toph - three Tibetan yak who just arrived at our farm!
They are our first hoofstock, and we plan to slowly expand the herd (eventually raising them for meat, milk, and fiber - though these guys will just be pets/breeders as we get established).
The last few months have been a whirlwind of chaos around here (moving, travel, getting old house ready to sell, other things…) - once things settle down over the next month or two I should be able to get back to a somewhat normal schedule.
Also, our pup Marrok the beauceron gets back to his roots as a pastoral cattle dog.
