Seeing Francesca’s earnest attempts at professionalism and Jimmy’s fondness for her when she’s introduced in Better Call Saul is so interesting considering their openly antagonistic (but bizarrely… loyal???) relationship in Breaking Bad. And you can pretty easily see how they would get to that point pretty early on, because you can already see her strange loyalty to him forming when she’s willing to help him sabotage Chuck on like day one. Fascinating that she and Mike seem to be the only people he keeps in his life after he becomes Saul (well, and Huell I guess but they have barely interacted yet). Makes sense that that familiarity and falling into some intense criminal activity together would lead to them having a lack of professional boundaries.

I like how Bad Choice Road basically has a gigantic feminism moment when Kim stands up to Jimmy and then stands up to Lalo, but instead of that making any impact on me at all whatsoever, i instead zeroed in on the way that Lalo treats Jimmy like an ugly woman. He treats him like a woman he wants to fuck but thinks is ugly. Or like a woman that he thinks is evil, so he needs to keep her in check. Meanwhile Jimmy is like “what is going on i don’t even know this guy. Plus I am scared of him”. But of course in the context of the show Lalo treating Jimmy like he’s evil makes sense, since from Tuco’s point of view it looked like Jimmy tried to scam his grandma but then was just scamming people in general and then lied about being in the FBI and so on— he knows Jimmy is tricky. and he likes that

I think the character of Kim is interesting but when I watched Lalo walk away after she yelled at him I thought “that is only because she is beautiful. or because he doesn’t want to kill a woman. Or he is just exhausted” like I think it was a moment that was meant to be like “you can stand up to people if you’re a woman! Look how Kim does it!” but that didn’t even register to me i was just like look 👀 how Lalo is treating Jimmy there’s a lot there between those two 👀

I think the writers put Kim in the show because they saw how badly breaking bad fans treated Skyler (even though Skyler was a well written female character, so that wasn’t the writers’ fault) so they wanted to hammer home feminism this time around… but because Kim is a beautiful blonde woman she may as well be on another planet from me cuz I know she can pull shit with people that I wouldn’t dream of doing idk idk like on one level I know I SHOULD like her cuz #feminism but on the other hand i just feel a wall between her and me…. I do like her demeanor….. If she looked like Francesca it might be different. Thats one thing that irks me is that Francesca gets no screen time. And they create the character of Kim out of thin air when they have a whole Francesca sitting right there readily available. I knowww her blondeness was a factor in Lalo letting Kim live . Unless that is just me assuming the worst of Lalo’s character, and over estimating the power of beauty . I do not hate blondes in real life, they are normal people to me. but I can’t fully click with Kim cuz I feel like her appearance insulates her, even just from the hatred of the audience
