VOLTAGE BLUE

Frankie Stein x Fem! Reader Oneshot.

The hallways of Monster High were buzzing, but for Frankie Stein, the buzz was literal. Every time you walked past her locker, a low hum vibrated through her neck bolts, and a stray spark would occasionally leap from her fingertips to the metal vents with a sharp snap.

​"Voltage blue," Frankie whispered to herself, staring at her reflection in her locker mirror. Her skin was a perfectly coordinated shade of mint, but her cheeks were flushed a distinct, glowing blue—a side effect of her internal battery redlining whenever you were near.

​"Checking your stitches, Frankie? You look electric!"

​You stepped up beside her, leaning against the locker next to hers. You were a normie-passing monster—or perhaps just a very brave human—who had become Frankie’s favorite person to "study" with.

​"Oh! Y/N!" Frankie jumped, and her right hand immediately popped off at the wrist, skittering across the floor like a startled spider. "I am so sorry, I’m just a little… un-coordinated today."

​You chuckled warmly, chasing down the hand and picking it up. It gave a friendly little wiggle in your palm before you handed it back. "Don't worry about it. I think it’s charming. It’s like your body is just too excited to be here."

​As you pressed the hand back onto her arm, your fingers lingered against her stitched skin. A literal bolt of blue lightning arched between your touch, snapping loudly.

​"Ow!" you yelped, though you were laughing.

​"Oh, shards! I’m so sorry!" Frankie cried, her mismatched eyes wide with horror. "I’m overcharged. Dracuraura says I have 'crush-induced power surges,' which is totally embarrassing and scientifically unsubstantiated, but—"

​"Frankie," you interrupted, stepping closer. The air between you felt heavy with static, making your hair stand up slightly at the ends. "Is that what this is? A crush?"

​Frankie paused. Her bolts hummed at a higher pitch, a beautiful, rhythmic sound like a purring engine. She looked down at her plaid skirt, then back at you, her expression softening from panicked to hopeful.

​"I’m only fifteen days—well, months—old," she admitted softly. "Everything is still so new. But when I’m around you, my heart doesn't just beat; it feels like it’s powering the entire school. It’s the most spark-tacular feeling I’ve ever had."

​You smiled, reaching out—slowly this time—to cup her face. "I think I'm feeling a bit of a surge myself."

​When you leaned in and kissed her cheek, the hallway lights overhead flickered and surged to a brilliant, blinding white. A small, harmless pop echoed through the hall as a nearby lightbulb gave up the ghost, but Frankie didn't notice. She was too busy glowing a radiant, happy Voltage Blue.

​"Wow," she breathed, her hand finding yours and interlacing fingers. "I think we just blew a fuse."

​"Totally worth it," you whispered.
