Nicholas doesn’t spend nearly as much time cooped up in the room designated as “his” as his doctors would like, and they all know it. He’s never been able to sit still, and Willow has stopped arguing with him. So, it’s not rare at all to see him wandering the halls of the manor like a phantom at strange hours, and at normal ones too, honestly. Peering into doorways to common areas, out of windows, sometimes lingering by closed doors if he heard something troubling inside.
He has a specific habit of making his way to the children’s preferred spaces to practice their music. When she was still living in the family home, Winter had favored the conservatory for her violin, Weiss could (and would) practice singing just about anywhere she could set up a music stand, and well... Whitley was largely stuck in one place, considering the piano is, by all accounts, difficult to move around at will.
He’s lurking in the doorway, listening to Whitley practice, when the damn cough that he just can’t seem to get rid of gives him away, despite how quickly he brings the white handkerchief to his mouth to cover it.
