Freakwater - Scratches On The Door
Incredibly depressing Christmas music!
Tonight’s guest: Julia Stiles! We’ll chat about her career, iconic roles, and whatever she’s got cooking lately—because she’s still got that 10 Things I Hate About You charm.
Plus, I’ll be spinning favorites from Des’ree, The Bodysnatchers, Meat Puppets, Tom Tom Club, Eurythmics, The Psychedelic Furs, David Bowie, The Escape Club, Kon Kan, Freakwater, Leon Bridges, and more. 6p ET on WFPK—tune in, or miss out on all the 90s nostalgia.

I listen to just about everything on Bandcamp, but like everyone, I'm prone to a sound - indie pop, power pop and post-punk probably make up well over 85% of the posts. But I also do love the psych folk/acid folk sound.
I really wasn't expecting either of those when I played "Watching Planes Go By" - the only song available from Kassi Valazza's upcoming album "Kassi Valazza Knows Nothing". I've been listening to the "Dolly Parton's America" podcast, and that was kind of what I was expecting.
But this is more in the vein of Tudor Lodge, Fairport Convention, or Nancy Sinatra. And then the instrumental solos in the middle defy comparison to either of the aforementioned bands. This is tagged country, but this isn't like any other country I've heard or listen to.
Kassi Valazza is based in Portland, Oregon and this is being released by Fluff & Gravy Records. This label has released music from Freakwater and The Parson Red Heads.

My Old Drunk Friend - Freakwater
I like good harmonies. I love female singers. I like hillbilly music. I like mournful songs. I have most of Freakwater’s records.
