what’s the thing you love the most about your Blorbo?

Xander: How much he cares about his friends (this is interesting because it can also sometimes be a character flaw and end up hurting other people or himself)

Cordelia: How much she cares and how much she does NOOOOT want people to know how much she cares.

Nathan: oh god where do I even start with Nathan? Character of all time for me maybe. But I think it's sort of similar to Cordy in that he cares so much about his people (Peter, Claire, kinda Angela, occasionally other people) but finds it SO DIFFICULT and also DANGEROUS to show it because he's been moulded to NOT care, to repress everything, to become the puppet his parents want him to be, and he IS that in many ways, except for how he ISN'T and CAN'T EVER BE because deep down below all the self loathing and repression and amorality, he LOVES. If Peter is love, it's only because he had Nathan to love him. (I'm trying to keep these short/to one core component of the character, but Nathan just has SO MUCH tangled together in his character GOD)

Patrick: I love that funky little autism creature. Look at him go. Relate to him on many levels. Other levels where I don't relate to him specifically but I'm like. Wow. That sure is a big autism (/ADHD) moment. Good for him.

when it comes to Blorbos, do you have a type?

Hmmm so I don't think I have A Type in an "if you give me this character archetype/these traits, I will almost certainly love that character" type of way, but I think I see a lot of common traits/characteristics/narratives within my faves. Love a character who cares too much but ABSOLUTELY CANNOT SHOW IT (see Nathan and Cordy above, but also Mary Crawley very much fits in that role and Bel Rowley kinda does too). Love an autistic bitch, an ADHD bitch, an autistic/ADHD bitch or a pairing of an autistic character and an ADHD character (Cordy and Xander are this for me as well, but also the most iconic example which is Luke and Lorelai from Gilmore Girls), love a repressed character (usually with some flavour of queerness in the mix, but doesn't have to be/can be other stuff as well), love a pathetic character, love a character who's kind of flamboyant/fruity but maybe haven't realised/come to terms with their queerness yet (specifically thinking about both Xander and Miles from The Crimson Field here). Idk, I'm gonna stop now because I feel like I'm just gonna end up listing Interesting Character Traits and everyone's gonna be like, well, duh, Han, everyone wants their blorbos to have interesting character traits, but yeah I guess mostly I like a character who is complex and has layers.

I actually think it's easier to say I have a type when it comes to ships - I love a ship where the characters are very different to each other in some way and/or have a tension between them but at the same time, they complete each other. But then I start thinking, maybe that's just every ship too??? Idkkkk

yes and no. i think fitzy needs to do a little more suffering. the worst we see him Suffering is being controlled by Teague's ring for a little while. and maybe getting his butt kicked by jack while sword fighting. but that is not enough!!

specifically he needs to suffer from an angry making-out session-with-jack oops who said that

11. What is a childhood quirk you never grew out of?

Wearing mismatched high-top converse. I have like, 8 pairs and I never wear them as matching sets :3

24. What hobby/activity do you keep saying you’ll take up when you retire?

Retire...? What's retiring? /joking

I'd love to take up woodburning again. I dabbled it in it about a decade ago, but my tools were subpar and lacking in options. These days, the tools for woodburning are so much nicer...

32. If you could time travel what time would you go to? (And why? What would you do there?)

already answered that one here, but!! there are multiple times i'd like to visit, so you're in luck!

Again, with the prerequisite that I'm allowed a few inhalers, I would also like to go back to the time of Roman Empire. Not for the Roman Empire itself, no. I want to go back there to do two things: 1) Collect recipes and, 2) Collect as many silphium seeds as possible to bring back to the future to keep it from going extinct 😈

12. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

oho! it was almost certainly kingdom hearts, but looks like the first published thing i put on ffn was a fic for the office? which is coming back to me in pieces now, i definitely did spend a year thinking too hard about jim halpert. good lord.

22. Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic?

honestly i think half the fun of finishing a fic for me is figuring out how to turn it into a bookbinding project! particularly thrilled with the bind for to the ends of the earth, and i don't think that's recency bias; it truly just came out that well. nothing more celebratory than tangibility!

Hiii!! Sorry it took me a day, yesterday was. A Day. Bought a new book tho!!

15. What do you think of when you hear the word "home"?

I usually think of the house I grew up in, beautiful old thing, built around 100 years ago, ordered from a Sears catalogue. Spent most of my pre-20 life there, so it'd make sense that that's where I imagine home.

Is home where I currently live? No. Is home also where my partner is? Yes, as sappy as that sounds.

32. How many tabs do you have open right— hold on I did this one already. Hmmm. How many tabs do I have open In My Head?

Probably like. 5. One tab has the bus schedule, one is planning what I need to bring for my day today, one is thinking about foot exercises (I have had pretty bad foot pain for years, and cripplingly bad for the last year. No doctor has been able to help me, but I also think they haven't been trying)

Three tabs are on Project Hail Mary and the themes of the work, plot holes, when can I watch it again, when can I buy the book, etc. Maybe a few more than three. One tab is writing this. No tab is playing music, but that might change.

So like 10 I guess.

11- is there anything they keep hidden for themselves and refuse to share with the other

Jack: He keeps so much hidden from the others. So much.

Emil: Hides the fact that they killed their stepfather when they were 14.

Fitzy: He keeps the pain of abandoning his noble life hidden from the others. Yes, it was entirely his choice and it's one he would make again, but gods, does it hurt.

Mary: She hides her fear of explosions from the others. She hides it very well during battle, when the cannons are going off, but the few first booms always momentarily send her back to the day when her parents were killed.

48- where does their relationship mostly exist: in public or in private

Emil and Mary have always been open about their relationship in public, but they keep the PDA to a minimum, especially once Mary takes to sea with them. A quick peck here and there, hand holding, hugs--that's about the extent they'll allow.

Emil and Fitzy try to keep things private at first. When he first joins their crew, Emil knows the crew is going to be hazing him and teasing him more than enough because it's obvious he has Fancy Man background. So if the crew found out he was also Emil's beau...? Yeeaah, they would get downright relentless. Later on, though, they start showing a little more affection out in the open.

Mary and Fitzy, similar to Emil and Mary. Minor PDA in public, rest is behind closed doors.

Mary and Jack: Very minor PDA in public until post-AWE. She'll give him cheek smooches and occasionally hold his hands or rest her head on his shoulder, but other than, it's private.

Jack and Fitzy: Private, save for the rare occasional where a spontaneous kiss or hug happens.

Jack and Emil: Same as with Mary and Jack. Very minor PDA. Mostly in the form of resting heads on shoulders or holding pinkies.

What do you think Weatherby Swann smells like?

i’m not entirely sure why, but when it comes to swann, i immediately think of purple florals… maybe because of that soft, powdery quality? they feel quite fragile and refined. something low-key and subtle, but still quietly commanding, which feels very him.

that’s why i immediately thought of moth by zoologist (black pepper, cinnamon, clove, cumin, lemon, nutmeg, saffron, heliotrope, iris, jasmine, mimosa, muguet, rose, ambergris, honey, resins, guaiac wood, musk, nagarmotha, oud, patchouli, smoke, vetiver). it has that slightly dusty, almost antique elegance to it, and thanks to zoologist’s musk note and the oud, it carries this subtly unsettling, almost authoritative presence beneath the softness.

or omniscient mr thompson by penhaligon’s (pink pepper, lavender & elemi, orris, geranium & black pepper, sesame seeds, oak & vanilla) — quite sophisticated, composed, and it settles into something calm and reassuring once it dries down. it’s a little sweet, but with a sharpness at the start from the pink pepper that keeps it from feeling too soft. it almost feels like a hug, but a very proper, restrained one.
