“Brown Sugar” by #FreddieRoach was recorded on March 4, 1964, at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey featuring Roach on organ, #JoeHenderson on tenor, #EddieWright on guitar and #ClarenceJohnston on drums. This was Freddie’s fourth album as a leader. I wasn’t familiar with this album until I picked up the CD a few years ago for $1.99 at the Princeton Record Exchange in Princeton, New Jersey. Thanks to the folks at @HRRecords this weekend I found this Liberty copy in perfect condition. Not sure where Freddie ranks up there with the great organ players, but on this session he’s on fire. My favorite tune of this session is the title track “Brown Sugar” as Freddie gives that power and Joe Henderson has that usual Joe sound, smooth and funky. . . . . . #Jazzrecords #JazzAlbum #classicjazz #jazzvinyl #Jazz #jazzjunkie #igvinylclub #igjazzvinyl #JazzRecordCollector #JazzVinylCollector #VinylJazz #CrateDigging #Vinyldigging #JazzRecordCollection #OnMyTurtable #MusicaJazz #JazzMan #JazzArt #JazzLife #3rdStreetJazz #jazzrecord https://www.instagram.com/p/CUWQEfMsRcD/?utm_medium=tumblr
