I was in Prescott AZ a couple of years ago and got to do some printmaking at the Yavapai Community College. My friend Naomi gave me some paper that had belonged to Max Ernst back in the 50’s. I was inspired by Frederick Sommer’s double exposure portrait of him to make a plexiglass drypoint for my first prints on his paper. I loved Fred and am so lucky to count him as one of my mentors. I miss photography a lot. It's a different world behind the camera lens, and the dark room was once my comforting hangout place. I love the manual work of creating the photos, the mistakes that turn out to be creative gifts, chemical fumes, the almost-darkness I grew acquainted to, and Johny Cash in the background.
