Longest fic I have on AO3 word count wise is an unfinished WIP that clocked in at just over 27k... anyway, I just hit 20k on the Hellblade fic and I'm in chapter 5 out of 10, so... looking forward to beating that soon!!!

▲ five time my muse thought about kissing yours
- He spent most days with her, entertaining her more often than Niklaus did by far. He talked to her like a person. Katerina could feel herself falling for him, for the wrong brother, but she couldn’t help it. Elijah was better. She didn’t even know why Niklaus wanted to marry her; he didn’t seem to like her and she could offer him nothing. She thought about kissing Elijah almost every day, though. She wondered if it would be the greatest thing, if he felt the same way, or if it would be the worst thing she could possibly do.
- She went to a masque in Vienna during the height of the 1600s, celebrating the culture and cresting a hundred and fifty years as a vampire. Her life was just beginning, she was experiencing a whole world different from the one she grew up in. There was no chance of recovering her daughter now. She was completely on her own— and there was something freeing and tragic about it all at once. Katherine knew if she stayed sharp, she could continue this way, but even in the drunken ecstasy of the party and the blood of her victims, she saw Elijah in every dark-haired man in a mask. She almost wanted him there, to steal a moment together in the fantasy of the carnival where the world was turned upside down for everyone. But it was just a fleeting dream.
- Hello, Katerina. Her mouth went dry and her body froze in shock. She had hated him for a long time, for ages, yet his stare cut through her. He knew her, maybe better than anyone else did. She sat in that accursed tomb plotting, and again, she thought about his command and his modern suits, how he hadn’t killed her. Thoughts of seducing him crossed her mind, and she banished them as they surfaced.
- She ran again, half a country away. Katherine thought a lot about Klaus, and often about Elijah. Klaus and her were alike in a few ways— one was they didn’t usually do their own dirty work. He sent Elijah after her when he was really trying. Katherine realized one day that she didn’t really hate him, and rather had a burgeoning respect for him as a worthy adversary. It took energy to get the spite going, and she didn’t like wasting her energy. But still, she thought about Elijah in the modern age. If he would find her now, if she could persuade him to her side… if he was like any other man after all. But Katherine thought he wasn’t, that it wouldn’t work if she tried her seduction tactics on him. He would see through it if they weren’t genuine. She remembered how she was almost smitten with him as a human, and some voice in the back of her mind whispered that it wouldn’t have to be disingenuous.
- Theirs was a partnership built on… what? Mutual understanding? It couldn’t be trust, or affection. They had a common goal, almost. She wanted the cure to kill his brother, and he wanted it so no one else could have it, as she understood. It was too powerful a weapon, too unique. They took long car rides together, compelled their way into First Class, shared hotel rooms. She dug into his wardrobe when she didn’t like his tie to get a different one. Katherine began picturing fingering those ties and giving a tug until he was pressed into her, imagining waking him up by slipping under his sheets. But that was probably suicidal.
and the one time they did.
- She watched Elijah kill the man she’d been pumping for information — maybe he was useless, but Katherine also watched Elijah’s knuckles grip the steering wheel a little too tight as they discussed it on the drive back. Katherine turned it over in her mind, and when they got back to the hotel room, she rested on the doorway without coming in, eyeing him. What are you doing? he asked. “Looking at you,” she replied, no closer to figuring him out than she was 500 years ago. But she would never really know unless she tried, if there was something there... She pushed off the doorway and came in, not like a predator, but rather with a question in her eyes. Katerina... She pursed her lips with a hushing sound. They shouldn’t talk. When he didn’t move away the closer she got, she felt encouraged enough to raise a hand to his lapel, and then his cheek, a light touch of her fingertips that made him close his eyes. So sweet. It was more than enough for her to press up on her toes to kiss him— savoring a new experience that felt monumental and sacred in the air between them. His lips were soft and delicate as they moved against hers, and it was the answer to a question Katherine had been asking for centuries.

it has been a long while. niklaus has been nothing but a nuisance on his time, whisking her away at moment’s notice. the time he’d spend with her is scarce. he has only learned of her name & her beliefs, yet he been wanting to know more. he’d find himself in the middle of the night, outside her window as he would gaze up at the dim lit room before she’d blow the candles. for an original vampire such as himself, he shouldn’t be wandering into danger zone. she’d be the end of him & yet, he’s risking himself to want what he could not have. the moment of that danger comes. it’s the moment that almost stops his dead heart from beating further.
❝ ——katerina. ❞ as quick as humanely possible, his long legs stride over to her. dark eyes lock on the dagger between her fingers, the sharp edge lightly piercing through the outer skin of a fingertip. although it hasn’t broken the delicate skin, it’s still enough toalarm him. carefully, he reaches over, taking a hold of the dagger in her hands & successfully retrieves it from her. a sigh emits from his lips as he turns, fingers delicately putting the dagger back to its compartment. her respond brings forth a chuckle, though he is not quite amused. ❝ curiosity will kill you, ❞ he responds in kind, frame turning back to face her. & if he isn’t treading on a thin line now, he is, as his hand somehow finds itself to tuck a strand of brown locks back behind her ear, just so he could cup her soft, delicate cheek in it. ❝ i’d prefer you to live. you are young & have so much to live for. ❞
She’s out of bed, late, redressed herself without aid. It took a while, but she hasn’t been able to sleep lately. There’s something unsettling about her situation. Katerina has been trying to figure out what it is. This is the first night she’s taken to exploring the manor by herself, seeking something that might look like answers. What form they may take, she doesn’t know. It’s quiet and a little eerie, but also dark with a gothic romance without the light of candles or sunlight streaming through the high windows. Her heartbeat races every moment - an exhilarating taste of freedom when she so easily may be caught.
She finds the room with weaponry on display, the glittering handles of swords and the gleam of their sharp blades catching her eye at once. She stops in front of a case of a dagger, a small one with rubies like dark drops of blood decorating the hilt. She retrieved it slowly, handling it with care, and thinking how it would be perfect for her if she had an appropriate garter to slip it into. A little protection while she’s still so uncertain as to why she’s there. She presses the blade gently against her finger, enough to feel the potential of its bite without causing a cut.
Elijah’s sudden presence startles her, and after the jump her grip on the handle tightens. She’s not necessarily afraid of him, but afraid of accidentally dropping the dagger. A little fear in her chest is only because he may cause problems for her for being out so late alone. In the back of her mind, she wonders how he would react if she drew her own blood. After he comes forward and takes the dagger from her, his tone and deep chuckle seems to indicate he isn’t displeased. Good. Her head tilts at what he says, glancing at his hand as it comes up, both wary and welcoming. What did he mean by this? She doesn’t speak until after his cool touch is already pressed to her cheek, the stroke behind her ear rousing tingles along the skin there. Even so, she feels calmer than before. “Why will it kill me?” Katerina asks in the same low, curious voice. She didn’t know what she really had to live for, except the mere chance her circumstances might improve and she might be happy, one day. “Where is the danger?”

“Pardon me if I’m disturbing you, my lord,” she raps lightly on the inside of Elijah’s door. “But do you have a moment?

she’s obviously a mess. He can tell by the way that she’s moving about the room, the mess of her hair and even the way she laughs when the bottle she’s carrying - that’s now empty - falls to the ground. He moves towards her with a small laugh, look of mocking crossing his face. “ Drinking my good alcohol, are we? ” he chuckles lightly then. “ or are you looking for another liquor fueled night between us? ”
It’s hard to shake the desire to hurt him. Even if the best she can do is damage the most exceptional bottles in his liquor collection. By now, her mood is buoyant, enjoying the blissful buzz making her body feel light. She laughs at her own clumsiness when the bottle thuds onto the floor, at how stupid it is for being so thick and heavy.
Klaus’s intrusion doesn’t bother her. Deep down, it made sense to her that with her music and the noise she made dancing around the room, someone would eventually come along. For a moment, her light laughter is his only answer. Her smile is sly as she trails a lazy hand over the back of his couch. “Oh, yes,” she retorts in a mix of playfulness and mockery. It isn’t as though she’d called him in there to join her. “How else would I be having any fun?”

“my brother is a little indisposed at the moment, love. so you will have to settle with me.“ and the hybrid takes on a step closer to the doppelganger, steel blue gaze against doe ones, so strange and yet so familiar to the hybrid. “unless you prefer to keep on running? Eventually, you will have to DEAL WITH ME, Katerina.” And he speaks her real name in a whisper, tasting it even. “Perhaps you are in luck and I won’t hurt you. Much.”
Her body is tense. She can feel it in her shoulders, in her chest, in her legs that want to be on the other side of the world right then. As he steps closer, it gets that much worse. She’s braced like she expects to be hit, but she tries to stay calm and project a relaxed air she does not feel. Not afraid, not vulnerable. “Not in the mood to torment and torture? Doesn’t sound like you.” Katherine sounds cheeky, she even gives him a sarcastic sort of smile. Her eyes are sharp on him, like watchful, accusatory prey. “Did you do something to Elijah?”
