if you're ever wondering if knowing french is helpful in canada, it is, but if you aren't in a french speaking place that help is really only to know what francophones are gossiping about. for some reason francophones outside of quebec and francophone communities gossip incredibly loudly in public. this would make sense if it was an uncommon language, but considering it's literally one of two official languages and the second most spoken language it's kind of ludicrous to gossip that loudly. if you know french, you will hear them insulting people from across a walmart as if nobody else speaks french. it's very funny.
