This past week I discovered the work of a new favorite old artist. Maurice Utrillo (1883-1955) was a self taught French artist who painted cityscapes in Montmartre. He was a complicated fellow, battling mental illness and an affinity for libations his whole life but that never stopped him from his passionate pursuit of capturing the scenes of his favorite Parisian neighborhood. Many of his paintings include the same view but are represented in different seasons or different decades thus yielding changes of each scene in subtle details. 🎨 I just love the colors of this painting and the shapes of the buildings. One day soon I hope to decorate an entire room in this color palette.
