eternalcandidate’s tips for starting uni!
Pretty please bear in mind that my degree is a humanities BA in the UK!
1) Talk to people in Freshers/Welcome/Orientation week!
This might seem like a simple tip that comes up on a lot of these lists, but I’ve got something important to add. Don’t go looking for your new BFF in Freshers week! Some people make really strong friendships in the first couple of weeks of uni, but a lot of people don’t make those bonds until a little later on. Just focus on talking to new people and getting to know them, without any expectations of life long friendship.
2. Get to know the campus before you start lectures
For the first few weeks of uni I was absolutely terrible with timings. It’s no fun to be the one who turns up 10 minutes late to every lecture and has to sneak into the seat on the front row. Go for a walk around campus when you get your timetable and see how long it takes to walk between places (especially how long it takes to walk to your lectures from your flat).
3. Get to know people on your course
Honestly I was very lucky. I ended up in a project group of 11 students who had an hour break between the seminar for our project and our next lecture, so we ended up getting coffee in that break and became good friends. One of the unfortunate things about a humanities degree (or fortunate, depending on how you look at it) is that we have very few contact hours per week, and getting to know coursemates can be a challenge. See if you can find a group chat or Facebook group for people studying your degree, or find a departmental society that will let you hang out with other people on your course. Even if it’s just one person to sit next to in lectures and proofread each others’ essays, it makes a world of difference.
hey! are you moving to uni very soon? are you wondering if you'll struggle to settle in! do you want a few tips and pieces of advice from a friendly energetic blue haired deep voiced girl? have you already moved to uni but might want to see what advice someone else would give someone starting to see if you agree with their advice? if you answered yes to any of these questions then you should click the link above and watch my new video :-)
17/8/17 I'm super pumped today because I got back my exam results and found out I got into my first choice university! So here's the last couple of bujo spreads I've made, to celebrate. To anyone else who had A level results come out today, I hope it went your way! (And to any other future Cambridge freshers who may be reading this, hmu sometime?? I'm scared of not knowing anyone 😂)
28.03.2017 I stayed after school today to do some homework, I'm aiming to get all my homework done before the start of the Easter holidays so I can focus on revision! I needed chocolate motivation tho (hence the mars bar 😂). Have any other year 13's confirmed their uni offers yet? Is anyone going to Lancaster or already studying there? I'm studying physical geography in Lancaster starting this September and would love to chat to others who are going???
1 is a fave of mine and 2 is my fave 1D song... two and two come hand in hand
