Story Time, Folks
So I frequently take the kids for walks in their wagon. Sometimes around the neighborhood, sometimes around the park before they play on the slides and whatnot. Well, for this story, we were traipsing around the neighborhood on a hot, sunny day in July. On the last leg, headed home, I run into someone...we will call her JZ, her daughter and her dog. Now, I never run into anyone that stops to actually chat, so it’s awkward enough that I’m expected to talk to this person, but I’m sweaty and breathing heavily to boot. We shoot the breeze a little, we find out we have things in common, like working retail (Special kind of job, folks), young kids, and apparently an affinity for walking to help lose the baby weight.
Well, after this chance meeting, I use some contacts and some social media knowledge to get her into the neighborhood Facebook group (somebody light a sparkler) and things progress from there. We try to plan walks together but never quite match up. We try to plan playdates, but again, nothing matches. Then one day she stops by after her walk and I just blurt out that I have season passes to a kids museum two hours away. This pass allows me to get up to six people into the museum (normally about $17 per person over the age of 1) for free as well as validated parking. I offer to drive since my car will easily carry all of us and that way we only have to move one car seat, not two. So she promises to pay for the gas and we plan it for that Friday.
Now, I should explain a couple things about myself. A) I have little to no filter. I will talk about anything, no matter how uncomfortable it would make a normal person. Sex, money, jobs, politics if you insist, religion, anything. B) I am not ADD, but I do tend to retreat into my head and forget common niceties although I am rarely ungrateful. I’m just introverted so long periods of time with anyone makes me quiet and antsy to get home and be alone.
We get off to a slightly late start. JZ has a small issue with the dog and I use the time to sit at the curb and set up the movie for the drive. I also clear the way to put her daughter’s car seat in the third row. Off we go. The kids are happy, the adults have plenty to talk about. Plenty of topics come up, but nobody complains, so we soldier onward. About half way there, we hit traffic. The constant start and stop makes my daughter queasy and it eventually catches up to her. We pull over, JZ does a lot of legwork cleaning up my daughter and her seat since she was the passenger (I was not useless, but I spent my time finding things to clean her up with and places to put the used yuck). We get on our way. I thanked JZ profusely for cleaning my daughter up, for her genius in powdering the seat cover, and for sharing part of her lunch to help settle her stomach. After traffic clears, it’s smooth sailing the rest of the way. The museum goes off without a hitch. The kids love it even though they never wanted to all three be in the same place. JZ and I had very little time to talk besides lunch and when I would recommend moving on so we could hit all the rooms (done this a time or five). On the way home, we still have plenty to say and not a single negative comment. I ask her if she wants to fill up at the local station and if she minds if I hit the ATM quick while she pumps. [this is when I start being really reclusive in my mental state] I needed the cash for our weekend plans and was thinking ahead of that day, even into the next week. I was thinking about what our dinner plans could be (since JZ decided not to meet up after the museum) and I was thinking about what else we could get the kids together for.
So I drop her and her daughter off, meet he hubby, finally, and go home, thinking all is right and we might just mesh well enough.
Skip ahead to the next Monday. I texted hJZ asking if she was working that day since I had it in my mind to see if she would be willing to host a playdate so I could mow (selfish, I know). She dings me with, “I should probably tell you I won’t be going to paint nite with you.” That’s it. So I didn’t think anything was wrong, so we get into this long conversation which was mostly her telling me I’m a shitty friend because I wanted to talk about money (might have let my pride show about being a stay at home mom) and jobs and I apparently carried the conversation all by myself (I was of a mind to tell her she was chattier than me, but guessed that if she wasn’t the only one speaking, everyone else was speaking too much) as well as I forgot to thank her for the gas. I took the high road. I asked her not to let things stew like that in the future and to talk to me when something arises so it doesn’t get so blown out of proportion, apologized for being proud and for forgetting to say thanks. I explained that I can get carried away with topics and reveal too much or imply things that weren’t meant. I told her I had a lot on my mind and I thanked her belatedly. I neglected to point out everything about her personality and mannerisms that bothered me because I am of a mind that everybody is different and you can get used to some things. Why expect them to change immediately? I also neglected to point out that I have done many more favors for her thus far in the “friendship” than she did for me and that actions speak much louder than words. So, since she had essentially laid out her intentions to end the relationship over my choice of wording (and some lack thereof), I asked forgiveness, received it, and have not spoken to her since. We are unfriended on Facebook, she won’t see anything I post unless I tag her in it. She is not tech savvy enough to be worried about her finding this or anything else. I know where and when she works, but really, it’s not worth the effort of avoiding her. I’m sure just ignoring her when I see her will say plenty...(see? ACTIONS)
Obviously, I was not entirely in the correct since I pointed out before that I don’t mind taboo topics, nor was I entirely wrong. There is nothing wrong with believing that “a thank you deserved is not expected” and believing that it was only fair for her to fulfill a promise without expecting praise. I am very correct in choosing not to point out everything that I could have because I always believed true friends would talk to each other face to face when something was wrong. If she doesn’t want to be friends, she doesn’t deserve to be told anything that would help her keep friends in the future.
Newsflash, JZ, for a 40+ yr old with a 5 yr old, you act remarkably childish. Your daughter was better behaved than you.
Thanks for reading my rant. Obviously, it was bothering me. Obviously, it’s not really worth the time and attention I paid it.
The days before the First Date with Joseph...and the day after
In the last few days we have texted and talked on the phone. Joseph says things like: You are so sexy I can’t stop thinking about you What have you done to me When can I see you again I dreamt of you These are not things my friends have said to me. Mixed messages in effect, what?
We decided to meet after I finished work, at 7 pm. Joseph was off this day around 1pm. He waited until I was off from work and we met at Sancho’s. We had dinner. He took his napkin and ever so lightly wiped my chin…I was smitten! It was nice we talked and he seemed so nervous and said as much. We talked about the whole “just friends” comment which he said he does not remember saying. He said he cannot be my friend because he wants to be more. We agreed that we are not friends…hmm.
Joseph is a Spurs fan…he does not like the Warriors 😔, LeBron or Kobe, lol! After dinner we went for a long walk downtown and sat in the park and talked more. We walked back to his car as it was getting cold and late and he pulled me in for a soft kiss. His breath was delicious like that first kiss in 9th grade…boys tasted like donuts back then. His tongue was warm and gave me chills as it grazed my own. We bantered back and forth as he joked about not walking me to my car. He asked for a hug…I teased, not for a man who refuses to walk me to my car. He then walked me to my car, I drove him back to his, we kissed and hugged and parted ways. I had just pulled into my driveway and he texted to make sure I had got home safely. My heart skipped!
Because it was so late he said he was going to get a room so as not to have to drive all the way home. A half an hour later he texted and asked if he could sleep at my house because the hotel was booked. (I don’t think this is a good idea…I just met him). I didn’t say this right away…but was about to when he texted “goodnight. I’ll figure it out.” I figured he had found a room.
He did not. He told me the next day he slept in his car. 😮 he has to work late tonight so I probably won’t see him tonight.
Goodnight Joseph.

Curiosity got the cat. LoL. It's been a while since i looked at your page and it seems you've decided (again) that i am not supposed to see what you share to the freaking facebook world. Why you do that, I have no idea at all. Funny and a bit odd. LoL.
Past the point of giving a shit
Couple of my “friends” are really pissing me off right now. DON’T WORRY, I DIDN’T REALLY WANT TO TALK TO YOU ANYWAYS. fuckers
