"Pearl Harbor" Frosterson AU
So I was listening to the score for the movie Pearl Harbor and I got this idea for a Frosterson AU and it killed me. Enjoy.
Loki and Thor are adoptive brothers who join the Air Force together. Thor meets a nurse, Jane Foster, who loves the stars and has a slight case of wanderlust. They fall in love and it's wonderfully fine and dandy until Thor joins the Eagle Squadron and heads overseas. Meanwhile, Loki, Jane, and many others are posted at Pearl Harbor.
Jane and Thor keep in touch as time drags by until Thor's plane is shot down and he is presumed dead. At first, this seems crippling for Jane, but time heals all wounds, and several months later she seeks solace with Loki.
It's that slow kind of burn, when you realize that there was someone in front of you all along. You know, that kind of love.
They're hesitant to say love, of course -wounds are still healing- but it kind of feels like the seeds of it.
On December 6th, Jane is shocked to find Thor on her doorstep, alive, and well, with that same easy smile and inviting warmth. Loki, upon hearing that his brother is alive, hurries to tell Jane. When Thor learns of Jane and Loki's relationship, it is a low blow. Later, Thor and Loki talk, and fight, and come to an uneasy reconciliation.
The attack on Pearl Harbor comes without warning. People die. Innocence dissipates. It feels like the world is ending. And through it all, a part of Jane desperately hopes not to see her boys in the overfull emergency room.
After the attack, Thor and Loki are sent on a secret mission. Before they leave, Jane nervously approaches Thor and tells him that she's pregnant with Loki's child and that she and Loki intend to marry when they are discharged.
Over the course of two months, Thor struggles to convince Loki not to go on the mission, since there's such a high possibility that neither of them will return home. Loki stubbornly refuses, and eventually Thor falls into apprehensive silence. As the mission comes closer, this sinking feeling in his stomach burgeons.
This feeling, it turns out, is not unfounded.
Riddled with bullet wounds and with a piece of metal piercing straight through his abdomen, Loki collapses, Thor runs to his aid, and-
"You fool, I told you to stay home." And now Thor was angry, and he wanted somehow to pour his anger into Loki, give Loki that power, that drive.
Loki gasped weakly. "I know, I'm a fool. But I...can't be sorry."
"Why, Loki?" There was a lump in Thor's throat, he couldn't breath - the anger was becoming frenzy -
Loki's hands fluttered like paper in the wind; they had never been that fragile, had they? And had his skin always looked that gray? "For them, Thor. For them."
"No." Thor's speech facilities were rapidly devolving, his voice shaking, his eyes blurring. "No, no, no, Loki, you stay with me now, do you hear me? You stay with me. For them. You're going to be a father. You need to stay with me. We'll get you home. You're going to be a father."
"No." There was that familiar half smirk, the one that wanted to be a smile but didn't quite know how to be one. "No. You will be."
-Loki returns home in a box.
Jane's son is born with wispy brown hair and too-green eyes, and when Thor looks at adopted son's face, it's like a knife twisting slowly in his gut...but time heals all wounds.
