Elsa from Frozen, please!
*sobs* You get me Hippo
favorite thing about them: Her struggle with anxiety has ruled her entire life. She’s all but crushed under unfair burdens placed on her by her family, society, and herself. She’s socially withdrawn to the point of rehearsing what she’ll do before public encounters. She can get snarky. She has a quick temper when pressed. She can get angry enough to nearly kill. She contemplates suicide (on Broadway). In most other stories, she would have been a villain or a cautionary tale. Instead, she’s portrayed so sympathetically that the story’s whole climax hinges on her worth as a person and her right to be alive and be loved.
least favorite thing about them: That there are numerous lengthy stretches where she has no screentime.
favorite line: “I never knew what I was capable of.” The wonder and the hint of pride in her voice slay me every time. This line hits me where I live because women especially are taught to downplay our strengths and achievements, to make ourselves small so others can be large. I need this reminder that it’s okay to take pride in the things I’m good at.
Broadway bonus: And so I pull inside myself / Close the walls, put up my guard / I practice every single day for this / So why is it so hard? - this feels like someone took a picture of what it’s like to live with social anxiety.
brOTP: I hope she and Kristoff get to hang out more in the eventual sequel. They’re both ice nerds who love Anna, so they should have plenty to bond over.
OTP: I don’t ship her with anyone and I hope she stays romantically unattached. The world needs more characters–especially female characters–who are allowed to be content and fulfilled without being in a relationship.
nOTP: I haven’t spent much time in the fandom but apparently a lot of people ship her with her sister. Not something I’m into.
random headcanon: Post-canon, she has something of a complicated relationship with her ice castle, since it’s so strongly associated with both good and bad memories. Most of the time it stays empty, but she occasionally goes there on overwhelming or bad headspace days when she needs to be alone and decompress.
unpopular opinion: She would have been justified in killing the henchmen who invaded her home and actively attempted to murder her. To me this seems like the most cut and dried case of self defense ever, yet sometimes I see people pointing to this scene as evidence that she’s secretly evil or something.
song i associate with them: Aside from the ones she actually sings? :p Bird Set Free by Sia.
favorite picture of them: This picture has been my phone background for…a long time? I find it really calming to look at, which is helpful for when I have anxiety spikes.
