Why did my autism decide that American politics has to be my special interest. I could literally write a thesis on American politics. I'm not exaggerating either. I've been obsessed with American politics for SEVEN YEARS.
IM AUSTRALIAN.
I DONT EVEN KNOW WHO MY PRIME MINISTER IS RN.
I'm literally tryna think of who it is off the top of my head rn, and I can't. Is it Scomo?? Albo?? Dutto?? I don't even know who's running my own country, but I could list off every bad thing Donald Trump has ever done (it would take like a week, but I probably could)
Hey!! You!! Are you anxious about the political climate? May I introduce you to…
Doing something in your actual community!
Organising, volunteering, and building relationships in your real life community is the best way to feel hopeful and connected - things that Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg do not want you to feel - hence why they would prefer you doom scroll on their heavily advertised platforms so they can make ad money off your despair.
Here are some ideas!
Volunteer at a local community garden
Ask if your local sports team needs help with coaching, admin or promo (you’d be shocked at how grateful community orgs will be for some basic made on Canva Facebook posts)
Help with trail making in your local national park!
Go to your local library and ask if they need volunteers!
Go hang out with older folks in care facilities!
If you’re not opposed to faith stuff - explore a local church, synagogue, mosque etc. I can only speak for Christianity here, but there are queer friendly churches, and often they are smaller and older, so are psyched to have young people show up and be involved
Ring around at the local schools and ask what extra curriculars are struggling to find volunteers to run. If you’ve got a skill set, there might be kids who would kill to be taught it! Offer to do a free art workshop, or run a D&D adventure for the teens
Volunteer at the thrift!
Volunteer at the animal shelter!
Volunteer at the soup kitchen!
Sign up to help drive older or more vulnerable folks to their appointments
Make your neighbour a meal!
When you do these things, you will meet regular, problematic people! They will not know everything or be perfectly woke because they will be 15, or 83 or working three jobs or trying to raise kids. That is a good thing! You can kindly teach things like pronoun use and inclusive language by example, and you can also learn from people who have different life experiences. You will build friendships across class, age, ethnic, religious and even political lines, and that is a powerful thing. You can tell it’s powerful because it is the exact thing that billionaire tech oligarchs spend a lot of money trying to stop from happening.
Remember kids, for every inflammatory comment you make on the internet, you owe your community one hour of real life service!
GET FUCKED
HE LOST HIS OWN SEAT LOLLLLLL
Liberals didn't get in!!!!!
The votes have closed Australia the count is on I’m gonna be fucking sick
