One of the many things I appreciate about Turning Red is that Priya is the token goth of the group that doesn't dress goth. She has black nail polish, but that's it.
I find this validating as a kid who wasn't really allowed to dress goth or truly like herself until she was sixteen (my parents didn't care/agree for the aesthetic, plus i was bullied, so that affected my freedom in school fashion choices-like my parents would have let me wear my Gorillaz shirt, but I'd get bullied still). Priya most likely comes from a strict family, or her parents feel the aesthetic is too "mature" for her.
This is so reassuring for those of us who feel left out because we wanted to have a goth phase (or not lol) but were not allowed to due to house rules or strict school dress codes. And even when Priya meets a visible goth, said goth doesn't criticize or gatekeep her!
