I’ve been thinking.

I remember earlier this year when I finally was brave. When I decided that today is MY day.

Today is the day that I cut someone off. A toxic friend. Today is the day that I choose NOT to be the helpless victim. This time, I’ll be the one who leaves and not the one who’s left.

I was shaking after I wrote to them. I was almost crying. But I had done it and it took a lot of strength too do it, but it was done.

I felt a weight fall off my shoulders, wondering: why haven’t I ever tried solving unhealthy relationships like these on my own before?

And it hit me. I HAVE done it before.

With my dad.

And when I think back to it, I realise how proud I am of young me. Naive, selfless, scared, brave little me. Who managed to break free from her own father.
