They refuse to post my review for The Iron Throne - so here it is.
Retroactive Continuity to the extreme...
This will go down as one of the biggest series ending blunders in television history. They have shoved a false narrative down our throats all season and the audience is not buying it. When you have to explain all of the issues with the episode - why Drogon didn't torch Jon, why the unsullied and Dothraki are just cool with their queen getting shanked, how Jon was so easily manipulated into killing his lover - then you didn't do a good job of showing the viewer anything.
The Dany turn - rang false because of how the show has characterized her throughout seven seasons. Do not under any circumstances defend slave masters and rapists - she served them the justice they deserved and there wasn't an ounce of madness there, that was ruthlessness. The heel turn rang false and therefore everything in the final episode didn't land either. She was actually talking sane in the death scene.
Jon - was turned into a complete idiot and a puppet. Really - Tyrion mentions killing her and then Jon is like - sure okay. And Dany offers him basically marriage and he uses her love for him to get close so he can shank her. What an absolute travesty. He didn't even seem bothered by what he did at the end. Absolute character assassination. That scene was basically soap opera level of cringe. IF we went Mad Queen - I want to see it all. Where did Drogon take her body? To Volantis for resurrection is what I'm sticking with. And what a horrible send off for the face of the show - everyone gets a cool send off except the woman that has the highest selling merchandise and is the most recognizable iconic character.
The idea that we as viewers didn't want to see Dany's madness throughout the seasons is insulting to me as a viewer of the show and a book reader. Why give us a triumphant and messianic figure with the music to match and the visuals if the end result was an evil genocidal maniac. It's because you didn't know how this would end and then ham fisted this disgusting ending on the viewers.
As for the rest of the episode - boring. The dudes take over the realm because apparently women are too volatile to rule anything and the Brexit scenario for the north - absurd. This has tainted the entire show and I will never rewatch this heaping pile of garbage ever again knowing that this is how it ends up. If George gives us MQD - it will have build up over two books not thirty minutes. I didn't need a happy ending, but I needed one that actually made sense and paid attention to the narrative.
The Prince that was Promised - means nothing
Jon is a Targaryen - means nothing (only used to mess with Dany)
Third fire you must light - means nothing
Targaryen Restoration set up in season 7 - means nothing
The Night King motives - nothing
This show is also nothing after this garbage ending. Thanks Dave and Dan, and HBO, and GRRM, for subverting our expectations that we would get an actual satisfying end to our once favorite show. Retroactive Continuity to the extreme...
