Day 30: Your expectations/thoughts on Skyward Sword and/or Ocarina of Time re-make?
I actually really like Skyward Sword. It certainly has its problems to be sure; the controls don’t always respond the way you’d want, and there are far too few unique dungeons, but it is overall a pretty good Zelda game which means that it is damn good as far as games in general go. The place where Skyward Sword really shines though is in the characterization of the main characters, Fi notwithstanding. You’ve got this great love triangle between Link, Zelda, and the Item Check girl. Zelda has significantly more character than usual. Link conveys a lot of moods and emotions even without speaking a single word. Groose has a really good character arc. Impa’s story has a rather heartbreaking conclusion. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. I really love the way that the characters express themselves and interact with one another. It truly is my favorite part of the game.
Ocarina of Time 3D doesn’t have nearly as many problems as Skyward Sword does. What really needs to be said? It’s Ocarina of Time. Not only Ocarina of Time, but with more refined controls and a new coat of paint. There aren’t many significant improvements on the N64 original, which basically means that if you bought it you paid full price for something you likely already own, but Ocarina doesn’t need much improvement. Perhaps the best addition for OoT3D is Ocarina of Time: Master Quest; a version of Ocarina with tougher puzzles. Although, another contender for best remake addition would be Sheik’s new model. It makes no bones about her gender. Sheik actually has hips now and sways them as she walks. It’s kind of sexy, actually.
