She smiles, though there's a hint of sadness in it. "It's a miracle I got the chance to evolve at all. If I'd stayed, I'm sure they would've tried to evolve me again to preserve a version of me that required less attention." She gives a shudder. "I used to have nightmares about that, genuinely."

Victoria shakes her head. "Eh. Out here I have friends, allies, support. I get to take charge, make choices and have them matter. I don't have to sit still all day if I don't want to, I don't have to wear claw caps...I decided to keep the title because I can use it for good. But it and the collar are the only things from that life that I kept."

Tide gently rubs her own hands a bit, staring down at them with a troubled expression Tide: I get lonely sometimes in my home... I'm thankful to have such a nice place and garden to call my own but it feels.... empty.... a lot of the time... The gastrodon nervously fiddles with her purse strap Tide: And despite having worked with kids for so long I don't know if I could... raise a kid entirely on my own... But that would require someone else and... ahem. Tide: That is even further not in the cards for me haha Carrot stares up at Tide, his nervous expression softening into one of worry at her tone change. She rubs her eyes gently before continuing to speak Tide: So sorry, didn't mean to get so.. melancholy on you there for a second haha! I shouldn't be so down on such a lovely sunny day! Tide takes a deep breath in and puffs out her chest with optomism

Her tone change was swift, albeit a bit shaky, but overall she seems to have returned to her "normal" demeanor Tide: Even if it doesn't ever happen to me... I'll always be grateful for the school and all the lovely children I get to teach year after year. I should be focusing more on them than the hypotheticals I think! The shaymin at her side gazes up at her slightly, for a moment almost a flash of pity sparked by, gone as soon as it arrived.

"It's...difficult to think that I could've kept my skull if I'd done something different. It's difficult to think it was inevitable I would lose it. Either way, it's in the past, and best kept there."

He shakes his head, injecting a bit of cheer into his voice. "Sorry, I shouldn't be talking about this; thank you, for the treat. Food like this is rare around here." A pause. "I won't be eating it now, though. I have to take off the sock to eat.....and I'm not comfortable doing that where anyone else can see."

As much as she's still smiling, her tone gains a note of seriousness as she continues. "And what about it is 'worth it' is entirely up to you, Tide. I raised my son on my own by choice, because at the time I didn't think I could really handle a relationship. And....I was probably right."

She laughs fondly. "Of course, I've since found someone who....works. I would've been too stubborn to accept his help back then-"

She clears her throat. "Sorry, that's not really relevant to my point. What I meant to say is that....not every piece to a puzzle will find you at the same time. Maybe you'll find a partner, maybe you won't. Maybe a child will come biologically, maybe fate will drop one into your hands in another way. But if you want either, you'll find a way to get them. It just might not be all at the same time, or exactly when you expect."
