Black Creek Reign explodes with their newest release “Excommunicado” and lead singer Darren finds a growl in his tenor vocals that bust through into a new level for this Canadian funk reggae group’s catalog.
“Preacher” – a rich man, poor man tale of how a preacher defines the narrow road to heaven—great guitar solo, infectious beat.
“Gone Away” – a more laid back track with a very catchy chorus, danceable, with a sprinkling of steel drum (real or digital)-who cares….awesome.
“The Lies You Tell” – Maroon 5-ish with a spatter of reggae undertone on that infectious high-hat. Here’s the funk in their “reggae-funk” self-proclaimed genre which should now be included in official genre categories for awards—good track boys.
“Now I’m Free” – great lyrics—singalong-able—fun summer jam—adding this one to my playlist for road trips!
“That Business Man” – funkier than the other tracks—reminiscent of 70’s Motown – minus the backing singers---a little rough crunch on the vocal chorus makes this track groove-ready and danceable.
Overall, an excellent EP from our friends Black Creek Reign---check them out at: https://www.facebook.com/blackcreekreign/ And catch this EP at Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/2pIGoxypPVZ9j7iatHCGP7?si=m90O8vqUQ_a-4EEy6WeBXg
About BCR: Black Creek Reign was founded by Darren Armoogam and Lex Stultz after the implosion of a previous project. Musical differences and clashing egos didn't make for great music, but they knew they had found something special working with one another. Picking up the pieces of the project, they created "Black Creek Reign" to keep up the unique sound of blues, reggae, pop, and acoustic-style music.
Move over Evelyn "Champagne" King - Jennifer Lara has proven reggae has more soul.
